The Pokemon are sprites instead of 3D models. I think they did that to prevent the game from lagging or possibly crashing or because of the N64's rendering limits.
Did anyone notice that at the last battle between pikachu and jigglypuff, pikachu was killed at 151%. (151 pokemon for the first generation) just thought i'd throw that in there.
Interesting bit of information. While Goldeen does nothing but Splash around, Clefairy, when copying Goldeen with Metronome, will actually hurt any characters it hits when it jumps out of the pokeball, but not for the duration of Splash. You can see it happen in the video here at 3:30 Also, one of the funnier moments I had playing this game was with my brothers, and one of us got Clefairy, but then she just stood there. We all forgot Hitmonlee for a second, and Clefairy copied Hitmonlee, charged at someone without warning and killed him, and we all burst out laughing.
Man its crazy to see how many of the pokemon shown here changed since this game or even just never made another appearance in smash. Its just cool to see, personally speaking.

explain what happens when you get caught in the middle of meowths coins. the damage compounds for some reason and I've seen people jump up to like 300% in a blink of a meowth

My favorite thing to do in multiplayer was use nothing but pokeballs, set the weapons appearence to high and annihilate whomever I was playing against with a shit load of pokemon. Goldeen was useless. She just flopped around causing no damage to the other players. I was grateful when she'd just flop off the stage.

If you picked Kirby, do a match, then picked up a Poke ball, and when Onix comes out, do a quick kill by using Kirby's throw under Onix, but don't let the CPU get hit by Onix while he's on the same level, wait til he goes up, then do it, and the opponent will be near death, percentage has to be over 10% to pull it off. ;)
What exactly is a "Clafairy" as mentioned by this video? Is there a difference between the "Clafairy" of this video and a Clefairy of the Pokemon world

Never saw clefairy as a snorlax. Have seen Mew about 4 times though.
I miss the sound design of Smash 64. Every hit was so intense and had impact.
Major facts!!! Smash 64 by far had the best sound design in the entire series. Hitting opponents with Bob-ombs in this game feels super epic.

I got really lucky and actually got him twice, but clafairy mewoth took the longest. Took about 2.5 hours to get them all.
