Exactly! The expandable memory on my Xperia 1 II is used for lossless music files and 4K videos, along with the headphone jack. Will only replace it with another Xperia with these features. Why should we accept the cut on features when paying for a premium product? I was kind of keen on the S21 Ultra until I heard it has no expandable memory slot. And nothing beats the alpha tech on the Xperia - when capturing action shots with eye AF.

I just hope by the time I do have to upgrade, Sony is still making phones like this! I'm curious how long it will be though, in years past devices would start to feel pretty slow after a couple years. Now I've had this thing for 2 years and it still feels like it's faster than I need for anything and hasn't slowed down or lost battery capacity at all.

@@FrodoMaster1996 Unfortunately Sony pulled out of Canada a few years back. I really liked the new xperia 10 however! At this point it seems I'll never get my hands on a Sony since international models don't work well on my network here.

But it's a different class! A different standard on mobile photography that's for sure! Love this phone! Really good! It's phone all can own if they can afford it!
I wish the Xperia 5 gets more coverage. The Xperia 1 is a great phone but it's also the most expensive and "enthusiast focused" as MKBHD said. The Xperia 5 looks and feels like the average consumer's ideal phone, imo, it only cuts the features that most won't even notice (4K, wireless charging and the ToF sensor). I see a lot of comments saying the X1 is too expensive and I'm afraid it might discourage people from checking out the X5 and X10. After losing LG, I want Sony to succeed more than ever.
I'm not bothered by expensive. That's kinda the point. This is the MOST phone Sony will sell, and it should be judged against THAT metric for an audience interested in buying that. We shouldnt be pretending that an S21 Ultra is a good phone for "average consumers" just because it's a couple hundred dollars cheaper on sale. That is also a NICHE device.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I don't mean to downplay the Xperia 1 at all. I think it's a great achievement for a phone - 4K 120Hz on a 6.6 inch display? It's incredible. But I feel like the Xperia 5 is being completely ignored here. The bigger tech RUclips channels like MKBHD and Linus are focusing on the X1, and most people who don't follow tech very much rely on them for news. Then there's Arun (Mrwhosetheboss) who I feel was overly critical of them, and very unfair in his criticisms. In the middle of all this, the X5 isn't getting much attention, and I wish it did. It deserves more love, because I feel it suits average customers who don't want to go that far in their budget. The Xperia 1 is amazing, but it is a niche product. And the Xperia 5 has the longest "reach" in terms of price/performance. So yeah, I don't mean to say the ultimate flagships like Xperia 1 and Galaxy S21 Ultra don't deserve all the praise. I just want the more affordable models to also get some of that praise. MKBHD did a review for the S21 and praised Samsung for cutting features from the Ultra that most won't notice to achieve that affordable price. Just wish he (and more tech channels) did the same for Sony. P.S. Loved the video.

Yep, definitely. If the Xperia 1 is too expensive, look into the Xperia 5. It's the compact version of the X1, and only cuts things most won't care about.
I'm glad you called out the trick some use to zoom in in low light (switching to the main sensor and cropping). Galaxy phones are notorious for this, and the user has no choice, for better or worse. Even in Pro mode, the Tele lenses are unusable.
Trade off? No. But it is a concern. It makes the one year upgrade cycle REALLY tricky, where an 865 might be similar in performance, especially longer interactions. Someone coming from a two year old or three year old Sony will still be in for an upgrade, especially for how Sony manages performance better without pre-throttling the CPU out of the box like Samsung, and driving about 1.5 million more pixels than an S21 Ultra.
Now that you had a chance to experience the new Xperia 1 mark 3, has Sony made any improvements to the headphone jack situation over the Xperia 1 mark 2? With LG out of the market, there are not many phones that support to offer Hi-res audio. Really looking for something to upgrade too from my daily driver LG V40.
Also painfully clear they haven't used the features which make a phone unique. "I lazily took THREE WHOLE PHOTOS from the phone without bothering to get a feel for it! GARBAGE!"

Burn-in is not something you can easily prevent from occuring by just turrning the pixels off frequently. Besides, you are mistaking black frame insertion from PWM. BFI is intended to increase frame rate by inserting additional black frames, which gives off the illusion of a higher refresh rate, whereas PWM is the super fast and continuous turn on and off of the display at a very high frequency to achieve lower brightness. Black frame insertion will not help prevent burn-in, as it's just merely inserting black frames that can barely be noticed on a regular use, and the number of pixels that it covers is just so small, which is not significant in helping to reduce the risk of having burn-in.

@@dafyddr8678 How is the Battery life and display visibility outdoors? Thanks for your feedback.
@@everstar8056 I find the battery life good but then I do not play games on the phone. The screen outdoors is passible but not great if it is sunny. I'm so glad you're excited about this amazing phone! You and Linus seen to be the only reviewers to appreciate what a wonderful device this is! I'm so excited to see this phone!
Linus' video was really fun. Especially knowing he's still on a Note 9.
Glad to see this video! And you checking it out. If I get the chance I will get the 5iii for sure!!! So glad that the brightness is fixed btw!!
And so true about: we want lossless audio!! But let's remove the damn basic feature as in the 3.5mm!
5iii should be a little screamer too!
@lalruatfela hrahsel the xperia 5ii and 1ii didn't get bright enough as display, so when outside in the sun it could be hard to see what was on the display.
@lalruatfela hrahsel your country still selling LG mobiles???
they are still not bright enough. see mr mobile video or gsmarena: The Xperia 1 III's maximum brightness tops out at 560nits in adaptive brightness mode and 356nits when operating the slider manually. This result isn't competitive against rivaling high-end offerings.

I REALLY wish Sony had a distribution deal with carriers in the United States. I feel it would be more popular if it was an option to buy some way other than ALL AT ONCE
Sony DOES NOT like to play with carriers. I think the Pro is the only one recently that HAD to have some kind of relationship with Verizon.
@@SomeGadgetGuy think the last time I remember Sony having some kind of carrier phone might have been that weird PlayStation controller phone. But I'm one of the poors who can far more easily drop 30/month opposed to 1300 all at once 😅

My only concern with this phone is the battery life...
What was your experience on a daily basis so far?
I'm looking forward to finding out how well the telephoto lens performs. The reliability of the AF on the first generation was not great. It was improved on the second generation. Now that the telephoto lens has a Dual PD AF sensor (like the other lenses) I hope its a major improvement.
Finally Mark III in ur hands 👍👍👍 that's what I wanted... thorough review 🔥🔥🔥
A great review as ever, yay for features, hoozah for competition and this phone just seems so right for you!
Feels so nice to have one option left...
A nice review. Do you notice any overheating issues that could be defined as unusable?
Thankyou! Great review, details i was looking for.
Most mainstream reviewers are useless.
Great info,love it.👍🔥🔥

I'm happy to see so many more videos on this line of phones. Last year I bought the Xperia 5 II. I love it. I hope more people think about Sony in their next phone purchase.
They're such brilliant options. Shame so many techies put them down.
I want to buy one, is that worth it?
Austin Evans disliked this. Among some others. Thank you for your in-depth views as always Juan. Sincerely, a fan from the Netherlands👍
I see what you did there. Austin did buy some of my merch tho...
Man....your video made me smile, the way you mocked other big guys was really good.........absolute accurate line to deliver right now "nothing feels like XPERIA"
I want that era back where sony was the king of smartphones
The Sony division is making money again. Steps in the right direction.
The amount of times I found myself internally screaming "THANK YOU!" while watching this.
A few of us out there that can appreciate a little nuance....
I'm usually a compulsive upgrader but my LG G8 is still doing so well for me that I can't let it go yet, and there's nothing to replace that headphone amp either.
I really hope more people will find Sony's smartphones through these reviews. They deserve their share of the action.
💯
what options in the pro app or so would you use if you want to make a selfie but also with good background? i love making selfies with a good background look from a big scene or so
Great video. I always appreciate your transparency. The phone is expensive, but what isn't these days? It's also priced within range of the competition. I'm a XPERIA 1 user who has already pre-ordered the Sony XPERIA 1 III. The tech is amazing no denying that. The comfort, look and feel are a huge selling point for me. The XPERIA phones are slim and feel great in the hand.
That jump from X1ito X1iii should be a fun upgrade 👍
What. A dac 24 bit by 300hz for sound. And a headphone jack and sd card. I am sold

At this point, should I wait for the iv instead of pulling the trigger on the iii now?
Just because I wear pants on my head doesn't mean I can't say Speria uno eye eye eye thank you very much.
LOL! Still a more functional application of pants than what I estimate the capability of tech reviewers can handle...

@@Twizzforsberg For some reason I am really excited to get this phone. My only concern is that AT&T will find a way to ruin my experience because it is not an AT&T branded phone. I also hope I don't mind the 21x9 aspect ratio.
I've a question: coming off a Motorola phone where I could shake-gesture the camera on, I was really pleased with how quickly (and without looking) I could reach the camera. Is there any way of doing this with a Sony Xperia?
Finally!! I have been waiting for this review from you! The more popular channels are on someone's payroll. You have substance...
Nice review of the device, I still have an Xperia 1 which I am pretty content with but unfortunately just shattered the screen so just ordered on of these. Looks like it'll be a decent step up.

I feel really lucky being able to pick up an LG Wing at $500, but this is the phone I have truly been waiting for. Glad to hear your opinion on it and that it truly is everything its chalked up to be.
The Wing is SUPER fun too. Ride that train a while, and hopefully some new novelty will be out when you're ready to flip it.
It's premium yet totally utilitarian. I think they are a niche device but I've always liked them. 👍
Good video.. quick question pls. What's the sound like in comparison to the V60 I only buy a phone for Dac quality sound. Is this a replacement... Is there a replacement for the LG? Cheers bro
Unfortunately no, I wouldn't say this is a replacement for V60, but it's the last premium phone with a good headphone jack outside an ROG 5.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks 😊
This phone looks great, but it's certainly not for me!
After buying high end LG phones for half price, I'm realizing now that I never really used the power and features that it offered. It was wasted potential.
So its down to the mid range for me from now on and I am not ashamed!

Why not the Xperia 5 III then?
@@FrodoMaster1996 Unfortunately Sony pulled out of Canada a few years back. I really liked the new xperia 10 however!
At this point it seems I'll never get my hands on a Sony since international models don't work well on my network here.
its worth change from mk ii?
Sony has made a beast of a phone! Some might say it the most enthusiastic phone (aka MKBHD) but it's actually a phone that has all the bells and whistles!
The camera! I don't know how good it is! But it's a different class! A different standard on mobile photography that's for sure! Love this phone! Really good! It's phone all can own if they can afford it!
That's the important bit. It's got DIFFERENT pros and cons, which we should want when shopping over $1000.
Thank you Juan ! Very good presentation ! I am waiting your opinion about the sound quality with headphones !
@@dhruvtukadiya I could be wrong but I think the only reason the Xperia 5 iii isn't getting attention is due to the fact it hasn't been released yet. I'm guessing as soon as it is available to the public we will see more videos about it.
@@derekdangerous that's what I hoped for last year, but the 5 Mark II barely got any attention at all after it was released. The only things I can remember is it was featured on an Unbox Therapy video and one of the people in a "which phone is every tech youtuber using?" video mentioned it as his daily driver.
Now we just need to see if Sony can beat their release schedule from 2021. The 5ii didn't show up in the USA until almost the end of the year.
Watching on my Xperia 1 while using my wf1000 xm4 and just pre ordered the mark 3 love Sony products
This is a very good all-rounded phone, not sure why MKBHD not recommending it to the public.
It's because he is essentially "paid" by Apple and Samsung.....not through money but through access and benefits.....to not recommend it. Hence why he always just presents the same hack arguments and comments.
Coz its a shit phone lmao
@@JACKRAIDEN97 ok karen
@@JACKRAIDEN97 Nah
@@Sabundy Well, in that case can you explain why he gave smartphone of the year award to Oneplus devices two years in a row?? Why not to Samsung and Apple flagships? Are you now going to say that they have not paid him enough (via access and benefits as you claim) for getting that honour?
It is pretty much easy to label a reviewer as biased and paid just because he did not endorse your 'precious' phone. People have different tastes and priorities when it comes to technology. It is as simple as that.
In fact he named his review of the Xperia 1iii as 'The Ultimate Enthusiast Phone'. Looks much more like a compliment than an abuse.

Well the thing is I definitely HAVE bias, which is why I try to talk about what I like. I think at this point it's kind of a lie to claim someone can be "unbiased".
@@SomeGadgetGuy your bias opinion is more tolerable than the big ones who's always mentioning plus praising Samsung and Apple's product only when they are having a reaction review or in-depth review to every product. @@SomeGadgetGuy you just call out the lazy reviewers and keep it honest. This is precisely why I love your channel. You cover all your bases. That analogy is perfect though and I completely agree. These reviewers essentially downgrade a phones best features to compare it to a Samsung or iphone then proceed to complain that it doesn't compete when that's not the point. It's really just disappointing there isn't more accountability. We don't need to lose Sony in the market like LG was lost. And these reviewers don't think about that. Hey Juan, do you think the 888 is its biggest tradeoff considering the wide overheating claims? Or do you not?
Trade off?

Hey is this phone made in Japan?
Hopefully the charging port is more reliable then the earlier Xperia phones.
Would black frame insertion prevent burn in, as it means the oled pixel are turning off?
Agreed. If there are consistently persistent elements I would imagine you'd still get burn in on a Sony.

sony xpreria 1iii covers all aspects. Right from headphone jack to fantastic manual camera set up. Wish it was around 1000$ to be honest. It would have increased it's reach even more. As always...keep up the good work.
