- If you love the idea of getting out there and taking shots using pro mode you'll love this device. You don't need to be a Pro - it's just good fun! If you do go out there and get into the Pro mode, you're likely to meet actual Pro photographers who will most likely be intrigued by the Sony Xperia 1 III. They'll be intrigued because they'll love the full Alpha-style Pro menus and layout, plus most of them will probably not know much about the new Xperia 1 III. These are after all, pretty rare devices! That's what happened to me while I was out and about photographing London landmarks one evening. I bumped into Matt Keneally who was out Time Slicing. I didn't know it at the time, but he's THE guy when it comes to that particular genre of photography/art. He loved the Xperia 1 III and offered to put it to the test doing an actual time slice shot, which took us quite a few hours!
Apart from all the time slicing, I finally give my verdict on the Sony Xperia 1 III. Let me know what you think of the 1 III - and Time Slicing - in the comments below. Hi I'm Yefrin Dawid here frm Malaysia just wanna ask about the front facing camera especially the Xperia 1 mark 3 some people commented its too bad I got one friend from Malaysia as well bought the similar device and he commented to me says its really bad front facing camera
Hey Yefrin - it's not great, the front facing camera bit good enough for zoom and Skype calls etc, just about. Doesn't compete with other phones at this price point in the selfie department and that will put some people off. Personally it doesn't bother me too much at all. And it is better than the 1 II in terms of the results (hardware hasn't changed much). Cheers, Tom 🙏

@@lovemademan thats so true I want a sony ecosystem but can't due to products like a watch and laptop. Now I am half stuck with sony and samsung. Using 2 smartphones and 2 headphones from each brand. Like half my products are sony like ps5,tv,speaker and camera. They should reallys start taking advantage of other products and integrating them together like samsung or apple does. They should also start selling internationally once again as many countries don't even get some of their products

Over the last couple of years, I've noticed a number of users from India hoping to get hold of Xperia phones. There clearly is a demand in India, perhaps Sony should be more attention and give the customers what they want!

I've been living with it for a bit over a week now. I think as a phone it's a great experience. Ultra fast, great display for browsing and video, extremely clear speaker for calls (almost shockingly clear, in fact), superfast fingerprint sensor, it's really just a smashing success all around. The only thing I would change is making the assistant button re-mappable (if it is possible in the US I haven't figured it out and it certainly isn't obvious). Battery life has been good for me. I rarely reach the end of the day below 50%, and I shoot a lot of photos. I would say I am a medium to light user in terms of apps and browsing.
For still photos I have come to really like it a lot. It's the best phone camera for me since the Lumia 1020. The zoom and ultrawide lenses are great, leading to a lot of creativity. I wish the alpha interface still had an onscreen shutter button. Don't get me wrong, I like the shutter button, but there are occasions when I want to minimize device shake, and a screen button would help. Anyway, the photos I have captured are clear and realistic for the most part. They have a very true to life quality that is absent on many phones - no posterization in blue skies, creamy (and real, not software) Bokeh, colors that aren't Day-Glo. I do not use the selfie shooter - recently I've been biking to Downtown Chicago a lot, and I have been able to just turn the main camera towards me and my wife, snap a few photos, and they have all turned out great with sharp details, autofocus, exposure, and color. I haven't trusted other phones like this for a long while. I miss Sony's photo album and wish I could choose it over Google Photos, because it made accessing editing tools much easier, and handled burst photos much more intuitively. Google also forces edited photos into a separate folder, which is annoying, as I would prefer them to be on the main Camera Roll.
Movie shooting is still not something I'm totally comfortable with yet. Cinema Pro is kind of a mess for me. The inability to switch lenses mid-project is annoying. The default "Venice" color timing is not attractive to my eyes, and I would bet it makes a lot of people think something is wrong with the video output. The auto ISO/exposure algorithm in Cinema Pro just doesn't cut it, and seems consistently to either blow out exposure or make everything dark. All in all, I think the "Basic Mode" video camera interface is much more consistently successful and user friendly. Cinema Pro needs an "Auto" mode that is comparable to the camera's Pro Auto mode (my main shooting choice). Still, what I am critiquing here is an extra, not a main function - and it can be helped via updates, hopefully.

Got mine last week. I came from a note 20 Ultra, and I can truly say I'm extremely happy to be back with a Sony phone, my last being an XZ Premium.
As not available in Australia, I had to import through HK, but it came very fast, within a week.
My points as an owner;
Screen brightness - it's normal to me, my note 20 Ultra I always set to about 70%. I now have this set to about 85%, and it is the same.
Screen - with 4k HDR content, there are no other words then to say it like looking through a window, the screen absolutely disappears.
Battery - from the morning to now, 11pm. I'm sitting at 40%. Better longevity then the note 20.
Cameras - Brilliant! it's ability to hold focus, blows me and everyone away. The ease of now taking in focus pictures of my kids and dog, is like nothing I've experienced on a smart phone, this cannot be understated. The colours are completely natural. The basic camera mode gives great, easy results, so I have no idea what other reviews have experienced with poor results, they must truly be retarded.
Sound - now I have a headphone jack again, plugged in my Sony XBA4's, and man, they came to life, blow the Samsung buds pro out if the water. Maybe it had just been a while since listening to the wired monitors compared to the buds, so yeah difference could be phone, or just wired headphones compared to wireless in general.
The only negative I have, is that the fingerprint scanner is dogshit, it is slow, and in an inconvient location to unlock the phone if it's just sitting on a bench for example. I now just have it off completely.
Seriously if interested enough to be looking at this phone, get it 100%.

@@bbcrayzee The front camera is ok, but not flagship worthy. However it's good enough for me as i don't really use the front camera. If the front camera is your main requirement, then wait for the next one or get a phone from a different company.

@@inSaNe_44 if you film continuously in 4k, in warm weather, it overheats in about 15 minutes,but usually you can still film, it's just that the overall performance of the phone will drop in order to cool down. If you are gaming, the mileage may vary depending on the game/settings. Sometimes it overheats, sometimes it doesn't. Again very dependant on ambient temp. If you play a lot, this may not be the phone for you.

@@BOMBZTV it's fine, supposedly a expensive Xperia pro 2 with the main focus being the camera. As long as the rest of the phone is similar to the 1 III idc. I carry a point and shoot around when I want take pictures lol

Having a notification from RUclips telling me there's a new video from sony365 is always the high point of the day. That's so kind of you Joseph, thanks so much mate. One of the funny things about this video (and one of the reasons I'll probably never forget this one) is the fact that it's the first video I've ever edited myself - ever! I thought this was going to be the end of my career, but I seem to have got away with it! (Well, so far anyway!). I must admit I did get fed up of waiting for the Xperia 1 iii so went ahead and got a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but I still wanted the Xperia, so last month I got the Xperia 1 iii 512GB version in frosted purple. I had to import it from Hong Kong to the UK but I am so happy that I did as I really love it, it has all the features that I love. I love photography , not very good at it, but I have had some lovely results with the Sony Xperia, and in my opinion the quality of the photos are much better than the Note 20 Ultra, the colour results from the Xperia are more accurate, and the pictures look more sharper.
I'm so happy 😊 to go the expensive step from Xperia1 to 3...
I can't take this awesome piece of Sony out of my hand because it's so well made. Actually, it's a shame to hide it in a cover. But necessary with this valuable piece of technology. My Xperia1 isn't bad now either, but the new one is two steps ahead in everything and as smooth and fast as I've ever had it. I am really excited and proud to own it. I love it...

Just received my 1 iii today, upgraded from the Xperia 1. After 2 years the battery was goosed. I loved the 1 and didn't think the mark 3 would be a massive difference. I was wrong the display with 120hz is beautiful. Amazed by the sound quality too. Definitely the best smartphone out there. Great videos thanks 👍

@@JoeGillian0 the phone was great, battery just wasn't lasting long enough. Full charge from 6:00am I'd be lucky to have 50% by dinner. I do a lot of long distance walking which I need GPS/maps so I suppose that didn't help. I like the idea of the fold feature just wasn't keen on the crease in the centre of the screen, my OCD would be kicking off 😂.

Ah yes i think continuous gps tracking will bring to its knees almost any smartphone, maybe you can use the setting to limit the accuracy of gps and save à litte more battery life.

That time slice from the Xperia is amazing. Sony messed up my preorder (then cancelled it, ARGHS), but now that the phone is out I can just order it on Amazon. I got the headphones in the mail the other day and they are amazing. Really hoping I have no more issues with Amazon in this phone order, I REALLY want to just get this thing in my hands already! I'm coming from the Galaxy S10e so this will be a big upgrade for me anyway.

It kinda does suck when it comes to their launches because by the time I get mine, 4 months later another phone will drop and idk about anyone else here but I can't afford to pay $1000+ every year to have the latest phone for 4 months, i use to collect every Xperia but it has gotten pricey. Xperia 1 here too. Hi! :D I’m on 2-year run with all of my devices. In general, I left out 1 generation. Xperia z3 -> Xperia XZ Premium -> Xperia 1 and now, just like you, I’m waiting for my Xperia 1 III.
There's literally no reason to upgrade your phone with every generation. That's just influencer and marketing bullshit. I got the Xperia 1 III at launch (late August in my country) and I switched from an Xperia XZ1. That's 4 years old and it still works absolutely impeccable. I'll keep the Xperia 1 III for another 4 years if I can.

Sale the previous generation phone and put that money towards the new one each time 🙂. That's all I do unless I REALLY want to keep it as a back up phone.

Great time slicing photo Tom! I've recently been getting the hang of some of the advanced camera features on my phone. The Sony tech is amazing one you get the hang of it! I recently took photos at a relatives wedding and a lot of my pictures cane out better than the ones from the professional photographer!

Hi Tommy, This is yet another great video as usual on your Chanel. I was looking forward to invest in several Xperia 1 III for my family but two things missing on this phone changed my mind and I ended up not purchasing this phone. First the fact that SONY is no longer making Gallery app available on this phone which I use on daily basis. The second is that SONY has removed "Super-Vivid Mode" from screen Color gamut and contrast menu, which I also use by default. When I contacted SONY, they did not sound concerned that lack of these features is causing a long time SONY user to hold back. The ironic part is the fact these should features are so low cost for SONY to make available so such a price tag product. Let's hope they listen to their SONY clients. Keep up the good work.

I can tell by now that you tubers are biased all about iPhone and Samsung they are great phones but with a lot of short comings in my opinion they are overrated and over priced after all this they go and tell Sony is expensive. Just received mine today (that too in purple!!). Absolutely loving it so far. Upgraded from my 4+ year old XZ premium. Perfectly balanced stereo speakers really surprised me. I don't understand why other phone companies do this.
Mine arrived 6 days ago with the WH-1000XM3, and I finally retired the XZ after 4+ years.

In my experience the Xperia phones last a long time, as with your XZ. Enjoy the new one!

to me, "concept" and "world first" are the words that truly define "innovative". not Apple's definition of "taking other's ideas and building on it". I think the Xperia line have always been innovative since the original Xperia Z

Every Apple interested forums speak about the future iPhone in 2022 or 2023 that they’ ll sport ‘ Periscope’ motorized lenses in one of their objectives and they and the apple fans in commentary section go crazy about it. You can imagine. And how funny it is that none of them mention that they’re about to use the same tech ‘Periscope’ camera that Sony put in their most recent phones. They show to the fans that Apple invented something big however the reality is more bitter than that :D

Just got mine today from EE they had a few in stock so didn't have to wait for it, I was a Sony ambassador in my previous job and was very much looking forward to this device and so far so good.
Sony should consider on upgrading its selfie camera and let AI do its job more on basic option for rear camera. Portrait AI for example. Huawei did it well with Sony sensor.

I got mine on the 20th August and I'm loving it since then 💪🏽 I mean, the battery could be bigger and the selfie camera could be better but that's not that bad actually. Since we got an FANTASTIC 4K HDR, 120 hz display and a wonderful camera, this shouldn't doesn't matter that much then. The camera is amazing, because you can shoot in manual mode and you got control over everything. Me and my buddy were out playing basketball together, and I shot some really cool photos with that phone. He was amazed how I could shoot great pictures like that.
Many people like him thought the same. I really love the camera of this device. It looks very natural, I like that.
I LOVE the speakers, especially when I'm listening to 360 reality audio music via Tidal. I played the 360 reality audio song :"Don't let me down" by the chain smokers, and iPhone users and Samsung users were really fascinated by the speaker quality. The speakers of the 1 III are way better than speakers from the Samsung S21 Ultra or the iPhone 12 Pro Max for example. Like I said, I'm glad I chose this phone to buy. I'm really happy with it 🔥🔥

Great overview Tom. I like how you have covered all the bases, I got sick and tired of the hype surrounding the S21 Ultra series and would have jumped all over Sony Xperia 1 III HOWEVER the Achilles heel IMO is the SD888 which has a tendency to overheat even with the most simple of tasks. Literally every single phone that has had the SD888 SoC has overheated and OEMs have had to reign it in and throttle their devices. It's a shame you didn't address the elephant in the room.
As much as I would like to buy the Xperia 1 III I'm going to give it a wide berth this year and see what the I IV brings.
The 1m3 is the absolute perfect Phone for me...i own the Mark 1 , the 5m2 and many Premiums before the 1 came out. All of these phones are incredible but this time , with the Mark 3, they give me all (really ALL) i want from a Smartphone. Thanks Sony for this gem.

That is a wonderful photo! Great review. It would be really cool to have a sony laptop with the same philosophy as the Xperia phones. A stylish classy look, that looks businessey, but also has great gaming features, like I'd love h/s power control on a laptop. They could have a special app to use your Xperia as a webcam for your laptop.

Hey Tom, I truly feel you on each and every aspect of Sony's carelessness for their mobile division when we all know how capable this company is if they really want to do it they just can. I am currently using Xperia 1 ii since last year and I dont feel the need to upgrade to iii as this phone is still up and running with perfect battery life and ram management, also with Android 12 next in line, it will be amazing and will outlive my expectation. However, Sony needs to rethink their divesting strategy, it was good back in the years but now the world has developed and polished that niche we're talking about. I have seen people wanting different devices rather than Samsung and Apple. Sony is just late to them and late is never better. In Australia, Xperias are only imported through ecommerce retailers and not by Sony itself which I truly believe they should expand as you said yourself, to India, Bangladesh...and you forgot to mention Pakistan, which is a big market of 225 million people ready to buy whatever any company has to offer.

I am waiting to pre-order the Xperia 5iii in the Netherlands. Even though Sony said pre-orders would start Sep 6, it is not possible to order yet. Luckily I am not in a rush..

You have basically summed it all up apart from the front camera,. Why Sony why can't you put the XZ3 front camera on the Xperia ones??? I watch all your videos on my Xperia 1ii. I still think this phone is amazing and by the time I can afford the 1iii the 1 iiii would be out. I hope the 1ii gets an update and brings most the software features such as the updated camera layout to bring it a bit closer to the 1iii and please Sony! Give us back the photo app and the clock and the sound recorder apps back to us.

Well, in my opinion Xperia 5 (regardless of the generation) should be more mainstream and affordable, just like the S Series as opposed to the S Ultra series. It can be the "flagship" device most of us can buy but again when they ask, you can say "oh there's this more pro model, called the 1, with 4K screen and iTOF camera etc".
Think about it; getting most of the bells and whistles of the 1 at a more affordable price (just like Apple and Samsung device portfolios), with great battery life due to 1080p+ display and NOT OMITTING mainstream premium features like wireless charging. And the more people buying them, the more people will see people using Xperia's and will be intrigued to buy themselves.
But yeah besides not gimping the 5 series so much from the 1 series, the most important thing for me is the update schedule. They should tell me, when I buy the device, for how many more years i'll get OS upgrades and security patches, CLEARLY, like Samsung does. Other than that, Sony is already in the advantage with microSD (which is a MUST for me), headphone jack and including an actual fast charger in the box and stuff. I would have loved to see them operate in a more inclusive manner for their smartphone business.
To me 5 seems much better value: 30% cheaper, 35%+ better battery life (gsmarena), better quality zoom cameras (according to 2 reviews, however likely rather issue with their preproduction units). Downsides are no wireless charging, picks up more fingerprints and perhaps speaker is supposedly not as loud (but comparing on gsmarena they are relatively close). The 5 III is at the moment even harder to buy. Seems it will be early October now.

I'm all about the niche audience watching content on the 1 II is incredible the new battery care features really help the phone to last a bit longer in a day to day basis 🤩, however, I have to say the smaller form factor of the 5 III wins me over due to my baby hands 🤣👀
Great video 👍 Except for a few software problems, I'm very happy with the Xperia 1 III. However, I noticed a strange gray bar (Comparable to banding artifacts) in the upper edge of the display on the home screen. Just a software bug or a defect? When the 120hz is activated, this effect is intensified 🤔

Hi Tom, amazing video. In your previous video, I did mentioned that I changed to the S21U to the Xperia 1iii. I am still extremely happy with my Xperia. I just received the August Security up-date, it's a shame that Sony doesn't give a timeline on what's included in their updates. Do you have any idea when Android 12 is coming to the Xperia Phones? I am getting use to the Camera, the pictures come out so clear and natural. What settings are you using when it comes to night time photography? I personally think that the display is bright enough in direct sunlight. I have ordered a 256GB memory card for my Xperia. Also, I am waiting for my headphones from Sony 😄 keep up the good work Tom.
Hey friend. In 2019 bought op7tpro McLaren high end device for sure. Came from a Sam s10 plus. Then bought an20 ultra loved it but found myself using the one plus more day to day Samsung got sold tried buying and using the s21 ultra. Sold it kept my McLaren then on to a s22 plus awesome phone but screen wasn't better watching stuff then my one plus. And the dac just better then all the others I've listed. You've got me pumped I have this sony phone coming in a day or two!! Hope i can finally let go of the McLaren which in my opinion is the best phoneive ever had. Love the full huge display no hole push or anything else. Amazing and still works fleshly in 2022.
Interested in what Sony will do for their 4th iteration of Xperia 1. Hoping for an in display fingerprint and bigger battery.

- upgrade zooming between telephoto focal lengths from digital to optical
- increase telephoto max zoom to ~123mm/5.2x
- upgrade front camera to 12MP/4K30fps
- update camera app with more settings
- increase screen brightness by 150nits

Thanks for such a great video. This really helps to make the decision of getting my beautiful Sony Xperia 1 iii! :) I'm very happy with the phone so far. It's the black one I got, not my favorite colour. I just don't have much choices getting this phone in Canada.
Got the Xperia 5 iii recently, great phone, only points I would make is I got really used to Huawei gesture screenshot selection that was handy. And as others have mentioned it would be good to have more mappable options on the assistant button
Also good point on accessories, would have preferred cases that go all the way around the phone (maybe would be better to have fingerprint sensor in the screen so that wouldn’t be an issue with accidental presses on the side)

For the record I am disabled and have severe as Neuropathy (nerve tissue and nerve damage) which means I struggle to grip and have no feelings in my fingers and a lot of my body. So using anything is a massive draw back for me, that said with the Sony being not a wide but tall form factor I have found it no different to using wider phones etc I just adapt differently - So…..
I managed to get the Purple colour with the headphones hehe I find this phone just remarkable it is fantastic and I am not normally a person who gets over excited about technology etc as I have through my entire life worked with and owns the best out there, but this phone Sony beyond nailed it. I could never look at an iPhone or Samsung etc the same way and even any secure OS platforms like Linux and such.
The camera is amazing it’s a tinker nuts camera producing far superior pictures. Sound on this phone well…as a massive audiophile I have been popping in my high end head phones and just enjoying the sounds definition as without a USB adapter 😂 straight through no software noise, its bliss. The form factor is excellent and so is the build quality and if you are a true power user (means professional) then you are absolutely covered.
I find and still am trying to get use to the power/finger print button as I keep pressing it by mistake and the volume button. Screen brightness 🔆 should be better but its as you say good enough. Accessory wise you are spot on its non existent virtually at the present and I struggled to find a case which is now a Sony one due to arrive any day. Love the Sim tray access - just slot in your SD cards no fuss without that point thingy need. The Screen display is just the best simply put and also the speed of Sony is super fast its just that good 👍

Glad you're having a good experience. The heating up did get me wondering if there'd be shutdowns to have to report but luckily it's been ok - none whatsoever. Got the XM3's so that's a bonus plus the price isn't bad still don't see why people complain about it, meanwhile apple and Samsung charge top dollar to not include expandable memory, headphone jack or even a charger so I see the 1 III as win

I haven't tried the latest iPhones with my headphones but I can tell you this: the experience is sensationally good. I'd be absolutely amazed if the iPhone delivered better results. Literally amazed. Xperia forever!!!!
I've been looking up phones to buy recently because of the recent 3G network shutdown in my area. My current phone isn't VoLTE capable. It's a Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra (pink color!), which I love and really didn't want to buy a new phone just so I can use my phone as, well, a phone. I'm also not going to trade it in because I like keeping technology. Seeing all of my past smartphones, Sony Xperia M2 Aqua and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, it's pretty cool to see how technology has progressed. After some research on newer phones, I debated between the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Sony Xperia 5 iii, and Sony Xperia 1 iii, I decided to buy the Sony Xperia 1 iii, purple. This is definitely an upgrade for me and am excited to have this in hand!
No new note this year,, so do I stick with my note20ultra or try this sony..
Iv had mine for about a 2 or 3 weeks now, it's a great phone but the battery life does let it down majorly for me. But I am learning to live with it and iv still never had it run out during the day.
