    The first this I read from Stephen King was Elevation. I bought it at a train station and figured it would be a nice short train read. Really didn't like it so it took me a while to pick up something else. Next thing I read was Pet Sematary. Totally changed my opinion and I'm on a King binge now. Already read The Shining and Doctor Sleep, currently reading Carrie and probably going to read everything I'm interested in in chronological order. Thanks for giving me a nice overview!

    i read Revival two months ago and freaking loved it! Love Mike Flanagan also and i can't wait to see his adaptation,especially his vision of that really disturbing ending. In a recent interview he said that he completed the first draft of the script and that it'll be bleak and mean and cynical,so i think we are in really good hands. Hope he will direct too!

    Great list, Sir Fuego! We don't agree on everything, but that's the thing about subjectivity. It's always nice to listen to someone else's opinion if they aren't being an ass about it.
    I decided to cut my S tier down to three books and brought everything else down to A. It just feels better that way, as I really do love my favourites on a whole other level.
    Btw. I finished Dr Sleep yesterday and I'm extremely torn about that book. I really liked the first half, but the second half didn't do it for me. Darn.

    Love these videos… great job! Just have to say, I think you owe Elevation a re-read. The character in the story was not “losing weight.” Something more mysterious was happening. And since it’s not a horror story, but more of a fantasy and a parable, I think that makes it quite unique among King’s work.

    Long, long time viewer. First time commenting.
    SPOILER
    I used to think 'Last Castle Rock Story' from Needful Things was meant to be the last story to take place in Castle Rock. Perhaps that was King's original intentions.
    Now I like to look at it as foreshadowing to the novels ending. Gaunt gets away, and the town is left in utter destruction and death. Like Castle Rock will never bounce back and is the figurative death of the town.
    What do you all think?
    Personally love Castle Rock and glad to see more stories after Needful Things.

    I really dig your format here, guys. Very cool. In this video, I agree with most everything, except Revival. I have a lot of questions about some of the other rankings, as well. Cell and The Talisman are an A? The Shining is a B; which is also where you have Thinner? Not sure that computes. Finally, Bag of Bones gets an F. Can't agree with that. Solid B. Certainly as good as Buick 8 or Duma Key. However, this is all my opinion, which has no impact on what you think. Good job. Keep it up.

    Loved this tier ranking series. I've been into Stephen King since the early 2010s when I was in high school and even though I own a ton of his books now, I've still only ready about 10 of them, so it was great to hear your thoughts on his books over the course of his career. Is there any possibility that you guys would consider doing something similar for his short story collections? I've generally liked the ones that I've read so far and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
    Edit: Typed this before the end of the video. Excited for the short story collection video!

    I read The Institute before I got around to watching Stranger Things (yeah, I know...) and for that reason I rank it a lot higher, A+ or maybe even S. I just love the story and how it develops, there's never a dull moment in the book like there is in a lot of Kings A/S tier works. Jamie, if you had read The Institute before you watched Stranger Things, do you think you would also have rated it higher?

    29:30 Yeah, King almost certainly has no say in that sort of thing. He writes his books, and other people deal with everything else. This, to me, looks like a contract obligation. He probably didn't have a completed novel when his contract with Scribner said he should have one, so he was like, "Well, I have this thing if you want it." Then the publisher began to drool over the low print cost, and high value of the King name.
    *speculation*

  • @Bauttom
    @Bauttom 3 года назад +2

    I've recently finished reading End of watch and I must say I was utterly disappointed by the ending. SPOILERS Most of the story was really interesting: Hodges dealing with aging, Holly developing more and more social skills, the addition of mental powers in Brady (which didn't bother me despite being too fictional, in fact, I found that to be quite fun). However, I felt like the ending and the final confrontation between Hodges and Brady was way too quick. I didn't feel satisfied. After all those years of enmity between those characters, Hodges and the crew just beat Brady in a couple of pages, not much dialogue, not much fighting. I was expecting a mental battle of Hodges and Brady where the inspector would endure Brady's mental control or something of the sorts. Instead, Brady's ability almost doesn't appear and is killed pretty quickly.
    Another issue I have with the novel is the lack of killing of important characters. The only characters killed by the antagonist are the ones that we just met. The reader never feels the main and supportive characters are in danger (for instance, I'd have killed Barbara, maybe hypnotize Izzy or Pete, etc.).
    Lastly, something that caught my attention is that Janey is not mentioned even once during all of the story as far as I can remember. It's like Hodges completely forgot about her and Brady doesn't even mention her when he fights Hodges.
    All in all, I feel like the story had a lot of potential but was greatly wasted due to the things I mentioned. I wonder if someone else had these feelings after reading the book.
    Let me know :)

    The Institute is Number 4 on my all time SK list!! It's the best thriller I ever read. I was excited to get back to this story after a break. For me it pays off for hundreds of pages. Tim is one of my favourite SK characters. BTW I never saw Stranger Things. I have issues with more than a few of your rankings.... but C for The Institute? no dude... And he has at least 12 S tiers. Oh and I was under the impression Stranger Things was influenced by King, not the other way around?

    • @Lasombra08
      @Lasombra08 4 года назад +2

      I think all of us have (slightly) different lists and it's a matter of subjectivity (as Jaime always says). Me, I would bump The Shining up to A+ and put Dr Sleep somewhere in C territory. Christine's also an A for me as is the Drawing of the Three.
      I haven't read The Institute yet, but it definitely sounds like it's up my alley and I really loved Stranger Things S1 (was kinda torn about S2 and disliked S3).

    • @TheHorrorShowChannel
      @TheHorrorShowChannel  4 года назад +1

      Just because King inspired Stranger Things, doesn't mean it can't work the reverse way. King could have very easily taken cues from ST for more recent books. Judd Apatow was aping Kevin Smith's style from the start and Smith then made Zach & Miri in the vein of an Apatow movie. It can happen.
