THIS STORY:
May Woolsey was the beloved only daughter of Luther and Mary Woolsey, who lived at 916 E Street, in Sacramento, California. She died just a few months before her 13th birthday in 1879 from encephalitis. Her grief-stricken parents made attempts to contact her with the help of a spiritualist, then packed up her belongings in a trunk and sealed it behind a wall. The trunk was rediscovered 100 years later in 1979 by the home’s new owners during a remodel. A letter was found in the trunk signed from May, written after her death.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Hi there, great video! I managed to find a record of May's older brother. His name was william jerome woolsey. He was born in 1853 and died in 1908. He had a daughter who was born in 1877. I hope this helps you with your research!
So it means their father Luther Woolsey survived both of his kids and his wife. That is horrible tbh
I can only imagine how hard it was emotionally for Mary to lose her sweet May... such an adorable child but how wonderful that mother and daughter are together again for eternity with our Lord and all of heaven.. That truly is amazing to find that trunk of May's keepsakes. I really enjoyed seeing these artifacts at the museum. May they rest in heavenly peace.❤✝️
Really interesting to see the faces from the past.god bless them
This is a beautiful story and you always are a great story teller. Thank you have a great safe week. 🇺🇲☮️🕊️🪦
This was such a memorable story! Initially so sad about poor May, dying so young, as so many children did in those days. But the presence of mind of her Mother to carefully pack May's things in the trunk, and hide it away- wow! I applaud that, in her grief, she wanted May to be remembered by future generations ❤ seeing the trunk contents was so cool!!! Really like going back in time. Not sure what to make of the letter, but perhaps it brought much needed comfort to the family. Thank you Ron for telling us this story, bringing us to the cemetery and museum. Loved this story!❤ Rest in peace, May and family 🙏
So sad she died from a mosquito bite! But what a discovery the chest was. If her mother could see how her daughter is being honored she would be thrilled.
About 15yrs ago, I contracted meningitis from a mosquito bite… long story short, I had to undergo multiple spinal tap drawls.. that’s all I remember, that’s how bad I got… point being, mosquitoes are more dangerous than ppl want to believe or imagine.. so crazy… out of all the many ways a person can die, u don’t think of a mosquito.
@@isabella-lp3nwYou do not have to tell me how dangerous it is. I had a chilhood girlfriend, that was bitten by a mosquito; as a result she contracted sleeping sickness; she was in a coma for around 3 months. When she came back to school, everyone was so afraid to go near her. I was the only one who gave her chance. We were besties for almost 4 years and than due to personal reasons, I moved away. We never kept in touch. I often wonder what happened to her.
My friends brother died from a mosquito bite that infected him and he died months later after being in a coma. This was just about 7 years ago outside of Roseville
I think May would have loved her items as a child to be appreciated by the people of now times. Mary would love it too. I am pleased to know they are together now. RIP Woolsey Family...a wonderful family story...thank you Ron, a great story.....🙏🙏❤😊
There are so many stories in this cemetery. I've been hearing about May my entire life. This such a beautiful place. I'm glad you were able to visit here and tell May's story. So sad. I hope you have more Sacramento stories from here to tell (including the Crockers).
Ron, Now that was truly one of your "knock it out of the park" videos! Can I give it 10 stars instead of 5?! I really enjoyed it, and I want to thank your viewer who recommended this interesting story to you! So fascinating, and certainly poignant as well. Childhood deaths in those days were not unusual, and neither was the inclination to seek out spiritualists. As Delta suggested, if the letter the spiritualist gave Mary some consolation, then hopefully it was worth it. I kept waiting to hear if there were any details in the letter which would have given a strong suggestion to Mary that the details of the letter might authentically have come from May--like something only Mary would have known, but I guess there is no way to tell that now. Like you Ron, I also believe that there are those who are truly gifted with an ability to communicate with the dead, but there are probably a lot more people who claim to have that gift but don't. I have a friend who consulted a person who supposedly had this gift who gave her consolation after the untimely death of her son, so who knows? Lastly, that cemetery is really cool, and I agree that it does look like a cemetery from back east. I am no expert on the history of Sacramento, although it is the capital city of our state here, but I am inclined to think that a lot of the folks buried there from May's era were probably from back east. Hence, it would have influenced the grave stones, etc. May was a really beautiful girl. Thank you again for leaving your signature yellow roses at the graves of May and her parents!
ha, yes 10 stars !! nice, ty!!
What a beautiful child. What a fantastic trip back in time. Thank you Ron.
Thank you Ron.This story was amazing, RIP May.. Her mom was devastated I am sure. May and Mary are now reunited. This story is amazing a true Christmas story with love and incredible. , a wonderful. Story...wow.…hope you have a Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family. Thank you for all your hard work.
Her hair was amazing. Wonder if her family kept a lock of her hair
Just love that beautiful, Victorian cemetery in Sacramento. Such a sad story, and it's so spooky to think that May's trunk was found 100 years later! Fantastic museum guide, very interesting stories about Victorian era California. Thank you for the story and Happy Christmas to all.💕🎄🙏💕
Bravo Ron! Fantastic story, this was incredible. The time capsule is so fascinating. I wish I could look at all the contents!
This was a beautiful story Ron! Thank you!❤️
What an absolutely gorgeous child. So so sad that they lost such a little treasure 🌹
Very sad but beautiful story, Ron. Thank you for taking us to the museum to see the trunk and belongings of young May. Have a blessed holiday. Pam Miller
So interesting! I love it when a “normal” person is told through their personal items. We learn what life was like at that time. And seeing everyday objects that this person used is something that moves me.
Thank you for bringing us stories that are always more interesting than the last.
My daughter passed away and Kept alot of her things. ❤❤❤❤
Prayers for you.
So sorry for your loss, big hugs ❤
@@C.W.scottishhighlandmama1821 Thank you so much.....
Condolences on your daughter’s passing 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a sad and beautiful story. It's a good thing that the new resident of the Woolsey house didn't just chuck the trunk away like some people would! I hope her Mum was able to find some peace from the letter before everything was walled away - and what a wonderful but untended time capsule.
Looking forward to this. Thank you Ron...we love your work!!
It's so sad that May's life was cut so short as where many back in those days. But at the same time, I'm so thankful that her belongings where found in such a pristine condition and are now very well cared for. What an amazing story Ron, thanks for sharing.
So interesting to see these things from a bygone era. What an astonishing find. Delta has a great job there. The cemetery is very beautiful. Rest in peace to the family.
Wow finding such a treasure would be amazing! Great story!
How absolutely heartbreaking. I could only imagine poor Mary never really got over her daughter's death. I have a cousin whose eldest daughter died in 1982 of Equine Encephalitis at the age of 12. My cousin kept everything that belonged to her. She still hangs up her stocking at Christmas.
Q
That's so heartbreaking!
Animal Kingdom .diseases.
Thanks Ron for a great rendering of this familys' tragedy, told in a way that brings their story to life. What a find, can just imagine the parents hiding the trunk away never thinking about it being found so many years later. Have a wonderful Christmas, and all the best for 2024.
A beautiful cemetery beautiful headstones..I love ur stories Ron..my husband walked in heard u talking stopped to listen ..sad for a mother..u can never forget the loss of a child..
Can't wait for this one either Ron this sounds like a very interesting story!! Mary from Arkansas 😊❤🎉🎉

The Cemetary is beautiful Ron! So many leaving trinkets at her grave. I loved the top.
It's amazing her Mother kept such a history of her daughter ❤️
Thanks Ron 😊 Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 to the Carlson family. 🙏
Everyone has already conveyed my sentiments. I lived in CA from birth to 2016 and had never heard of May. Thank you for this!❤

Looking forward to this, Ron. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Perhaps it doesn't matter whether or not ghosts are real, because, 'May Woolsey's story' is such a great inspiration for all of us ❤❤❤❤❤ ! And her 'ghostly letter' had empowered 'May' in death for sure ❤❤. Thank you to @ FOTF Ron for this very engaging tale ❤❤😊 and, have a 'Happy Christmas 🎄 🎄 🎄 Ron, and to your wife and family members, too 🎄 🎄.
Great story Ron and thanks to delta for showing us some of the items of May .safe travels mate take care,👋👋🙏🙏👍🇦🇺
The trunk was a better time capsule of everyday life than an "intentional" time capsule. It's a rare and intricate glimpse into the life of someone who lived in the years following the Civil War in a part of the country that had only been settled a few decades before she lived. The addition of the later spiritual material also provides a sample of the belief systems of the time. Nice work.
Sounds like a good money making scheme, those "spiritualists", preying on devastated individuals. They probably wrote similar letters to everyone.
It's interesting that May's folks would hide the chest in the wall. I wonder what their purpose was for putting it there and why they didn't take it with them when they moved.
Very interesting. Thank you so much, Ron, for this wonderful peak into the life of a child in the late 1800s❤
What a beautiful young lady Mae was. That long thick curly hair was beautiful. What a shame she died so young😢. That trunk is amazing. All the artifacts inside it. I would love to find something like that! R.I.P. to the Woolsey family.❤
What a lovely story Ron,thank you for telling it,,,🌹merry Christmas to you and youre family,,greetings from Belgium to you all.🌹
Thanks Ron for telling us this story . Love watching your channel. Have a Happy merry Christmas to you an your family ❤
Beautiful girl with a beautiful tombstone. Great story Ron.
What beautiful hair the girl had. Just starting the sad story. What an interesting story with great artifacts! Thx Ron
You've outdone yourself this time, Ron. Such a fascinating story,
Another beautiful day in the desert, almost 80 degrees !
yep!! 4-wheeling in the mountains today!
Ron, don't you miss Chicago winters?? 😅
Enjoy it for me, as I would love to be in the desert right now myself! 🏜️🌵😎
Wish it was 80 now !
I'm freezing 😮
Great story. As a teacher I appreciate the focus on childhood experiences.
Thank you Ron, for this very interesting story. It is so sad that May died so young. RIP. Her mother had the foresight to collect her daughters belongings together and now they live on for the world to see. Stay safe and keep well.
Hi Ron
Beautiful Story Beautiful Girl , I'm hopeful the Letter gave her Mother Real Peace of Mind , both are together at last , Rest in Paradise Beautiful Ones
When you pass it doesn't matter how old you are. You see things that you would never understood here and understand more. The afterlife is beautiful.
Sad story of loss. Amazing display at the museum. Thank you for this walk, Ron
Thank you Ron for another great story. R.i.P May 😢💔
A beautiful story.. Enjoyed seeing the trunk and her personal items.. Thank you Ron
What a beautiful and even a sad story. I love the box with all her stuff. You and the lady from the museum told us the story and i will never forget May and al her things.👍🌷
So interesting, encephalitis is still killing people today. I also absolutely believe some people have the gift to talk to people that have left this world.
morning all.. from down-under
Thanks Deb Delta and Ron❤️ Hope May Mary And her Father And Brother are all together and having a good time❤️
Such an interesting presentation. Thanks for sharing this tonight,Ron.
Looking forward to watch another amazing story. By great storytelling Ron hope you're having A lovely weekend Ron Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family and your 2 dogs 🐶
Hey looking forward to seeing you tonight Ruth. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend too and Merry Christmas to you and yours!!! 🎄
Wonder what happened to her brother?
Very fascinating story. I love seeing things from so long ago.
Ron thank you for such a wonderful and interesting story. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
What a great story Ron and I loved the trip to the museum as a follow up to it. That was so interesting. There are so many fake spiritualists out there even today that you just don't know who's the real deal and who's not. So, I guess we will never know if the one Mary saw was sincere but it's still so interesting. Can you imagine being the one who finds that trunk?! Wow!!! I'm so glad the museum was able to get those finds. RIP to May and her family ❤💐
thanks Flo!
.ill have to re-watch this episode .i jumped in the middle of it. This is a fascinating story .She definitely has beautiful long hair ..Very cool museum .Thank you Ron an Delta Rip May Woolsey
What an incredible episode, thank you! Any chance you could dig further to find why the brother not buried with the rest of the family?
find a grave does not show him, only the parents. but it is very likely he moved away from Sacramento as a young man, and is buried with his wife, her family, or where they eventually settled.
perhaps now that the story is told here, one of our viewers will update and add to the find a grave profile.
Hello Ron! I'm restoring an old Victorian-era camelback trunk. A lot of detail on it and when I'm working on it I can't help but wonder about the original owner and their story. This story that you shared is just great. Thank you. Wonderful job as usual! P.S. I'm finally getting to play catch up on all the episodes I have missed. Happy New Year to you and yours😊
Great to see you back Kelly.
Thank you Ron for bringing this story to life, it' so special for some one to be remembered after all these years, Merry Christmas Ron from MJ in Arizona
Imagine… if there actually was such a thing as a spiritualist, and you discovered yourself to have the gift during your travels.
Hi love you're channel you are so sweet. Merry Christmas
This was awesome, Ron. Thank you!
RIP May Hollister Woolsey 💐 💐 💐
Oh Ron, please don’t disbelieve the letter. From that side they KNOW - they see us, they know our problems and they are extremely aware, unlike on Earth. I know I’ve told you before of having been in touch with my parents from the other side and I wish I could tell you what I remembered at the age of 68. I’d do it here but it’s quite long. I will say though that I had 4 different psychic experiences at the age of 8. The number 8 is the sign of infinity…I realized much later. The first one showed a past life, the second showed me karma. My friend had drawn a picture and explained it to me then told me she would be “leaving” soon. She passed away two nights later. It was her parents karma 😟. The third one was, well …you’d be hard pressed to believe what actually did happen but I was told my mom was going to pass away and why. She died when I was 13 and I felt like I’d known it was going to happen. The fourth thing was being shown a picture in my baby book of the dr that delivered me. I described the dr to my parents and they looked at each other and my dad said “maybe a picture?” My mom said “Frank, no pictures were taken”. I went to my baby book to show them and the picture wasn’t there!!! I have so much more I could tell you but…I was “told” that in order to learn the truth I had chosen a painful “journey”. Believe Ron as it is INCREDIBLE! Your daughter watches over you and love NEVER dies! ✨♥️✨
I believe overall, but in this case I question it.
@@FacesoftheForgotten discernment is a great thing Ron so ok 😀
Hi Ron,everyone from ballarat in Oz,hope your all well,👋🙏🙏👍🇦🇺
I live in Sacramento now. I will go and check this grave out. Thanks for the story Ron.
That is so interesting. I would've loved to see more items in the trunk. I'm glad the museum focused on that and her life rather than making it into a ghost story because of the spiritualist's letter.
The letter probably helped her mum, more than anything else, to cope with it.
Reminds me of a book called Letters to Mothers by Chico Xavier.
None of us will know until our time comes really.
Whatever race, culture, financial status... it is just the love that matters.
May had gorgeous hair!
Both my great Grandparents are buried there.
My Great Grandmother was related to Frank and Jesse James. My Great Grandfather met her when he crashed his crop duster in her family field in Dallas, TX.
My grandfather went to Sacramento High School. Their names were Ethel Beatrice Griffin and William H Griffin
Most girls received a trunk on 10th birthday or maybe later as a "hope chest". They put stuff in it to go into their homes once they were married. When they married the Hope chest was taken with her when she married and left home.
interesting. ty for sharing that.
Very old custom...a girl's father would commission a large 'trunk' that would fit at the foot of her marriage bed when she married. In wealthy families it would be large & covered with carvings. Supposedly, it would also serve as a coffin. ("Remember Death").
I have my mother's. It's cedar
❤🎉from Malta 🇲🇹 Europe
The paper box looks like the sort of box children might have decorated as a "mailbox" to receive Valentines or something similar.
I miss your videos had to get me a new phone but love your stories Ron very happy to hear your most wonderful stories
I am so impressed at the beauty of the writing of a young 13 year old girl. Todays children could never write like that. Neither would many have such a concept of grammar.
Just realised that May did not write the letter after all. It was made up by spiritualists. What a shame. Thought it was too good to be true. 😢
This was like watching an episode of, Californias Gold. The idea of incorporating a trip to the museum after the visit to the grave is very enjoyable as it validates the story!
Extremely interesting. You have the best resources to dig in to the whole story and bring it to us. Thank you for doing so. Ba safe out there on your travels.
Very interesting, it's good to see there things they had in there life, I love museums like this. Not sure if you have heard of the Bronte sisters who lived in Yorkshire UK in a village called Haworth, I went last Sunday to the village and in there home, its a lovely little place if you look it up x
Great story Ron. So interesting. Thanks so much for sharing.
Amazing story, May was very good at art
Another wonderful story, thanks Ron. This is why I love your channel so very much. That young girl was very pretty. I’m so glad that her things were found to be shared with the world.
Your a great story teller Ron! This was very interesting, thank you for going to the Museum to show us!!
I lost my husband, My world, in October and I would pay any money it took to get a message from him. I can relate to Mary in that regard. But I would agree that no harm could come from offering comfort even if it’s a bit shady. 😉
condolences.
a good perspective on the note.
@@FacesoftheForgotten ❤️. Thank you. Everyone goes through loss sadly and what you do is a beautiful service to those that have passed.
The other two flat stone - could they be Mary’s Parents?
no, because the two that have those markers (the Pollard's) died in the early 1900's. not sure who they are.
Wow you were only an hour from me. This was interesting! May May rest in peace . 🙏🏽🙏🏽 sad for the parents 😢
I grew up in the house around the corner from 916 E Street, about 4 houses away. The area was full of vibes. My mother was a Spiritualist and did sessions in those old homes on E Street, and other areas of Mansion Flats in Sacramento, CA. I just imagine I used to ride my bigwheel past that house everyday (early 70's), now realizing this chest was in that house all that time hidden away. I had two friends on both sides of that house!
Very interesting!!
Loved this story! But you know I love your paranormal twists! Wonderful job like always Ron! ❤
Thank you Ron for this one. Dit bly maar hartseer.
This is a good story about may infact very interesting Thank you Ron Take care
Such an interesting story. It's so cool that her parents thought to hide her things away so she could be remembered long after they were gone. Thank you for sharing her story. May she rest in peace. 😊
I think the”special gift” or clairvoyance is more prevalent than we think. I don’t mean just the paid or celebrity ones, but I think a lot of families might have that one or two members that can tell you what the weather is going to be like during the week, tell you that going on that particular trip, or date would not be advisable, know who’s on the phone before it rings even if it’s someone you haven’t heard from for years. Only especially if in very religious families, THAT would not be discussed in the family or out. My aunt and sister were the ones in mine, and my sister and I in our mid 50’s, aunt having passed away, just barely talked about it. My sister was rather traumatized after losing both in-laws close together because she knew why and when, so it’s a shame that some folks still feel the need to keep that hidden
Thanks for sharing Ron, sad that May died so young. It's amazing how someone found the trunk after all those years. That was definitely museum material. I'm glad that they will rotate the items. Good to know that people from future generations can view these items from days of long ago. Take care Ron, looking forward to your next video.
