Lesson: harem = world domination.
@@o0o371 Yeah but you know how it is, lots of people say they want to learn a foreign language, only a handful ever actually follow through with it because it takes a lot of self-motivation and patience and has no immediate payoff.
As someone who is currently working on foreign language no. 3 I can only recommend signing up to a class that requires regular attendance in some form (conference or physical) and isn't super cheap.
It sounds dumb but if other people expect you to attend and the fee actually put a dent into your finances you can't pussy out as easily.
Pekora sometime understand english chat (backseat gaming) and reply while gaming.
Just like Korone.
Miko ? Don't ask me, lol. FAQ.
funny part is that during Pekora's stream there are less than 20% english chats mostly are japanese, hahaha his just says that most of those 59% are just watching and knows pekora cant understand english well so just remaining silent while consisting more than half of the crowd
That and most overseas viewers will only say 草 anyways

It all started because of the rise of usada construction, pekomiko war and more of her legendary streams.
Translators like tengoku played a big role for her sudden growth of overseas fans as well
Indeed. As mentioned in the Trash Taste Podcast, translators are the unsung heroes of Hololive. And the catalyst for cultural cross polination.

We are glad you are too, japanese bro!

Of course there are more Japanese comments than English ones because most of the Hologirls don't speak English, so we just sit back, relax and enjoy the show. I bet most of us can't understand Japanese either. But when we see our chance we take it, like when Pekora addresses us in English, when Miko goes full Elite or when Korone does her English practice, then we come out of the shadows and strike for a few seconds before we disappearing again.
I can totally believe that Pekora's viewers are now more international since all the clips that got translated (big thanks to all the translators) and since she can speak some English. Because of Moona we saw that more than before.
Hololive is rabbit hole but a good one with wonderful people in them.
This reminds me of that time one of the girls, I forgot who, called us oversea bros the Hololive Ninjas or something, that was hilarious

Just like Sora who learned English for a whole year
I actually discovered Hololive ( Korone in my case) totally randomly. I watch this dude Rhymestyle videos, i think it was during a DB fighterz raid boss, where he talks about being confident then he out of nowhere Korone appears saying the famous " have confidence!". I was like "wth?? Who is that cute anime doggo??" So i searched on youtube and voilá, i fell into the rabbit hole. I never once got a recomended video of them, it was just a random meme in a video that started it.

I've thought about picking it up too. Would love to be able to understand everything our crazy rabbit says. Any advice on where to start?
Well she usually reaches 35/40k viewers whenever she streams since she streams late at night, people in Europe like me can easily follow her live streams during the afternoon
That's right, in asia as well, she mostly streamed at our prime time.
And sometimes for us working night shifts, although usually its haachama that starts streaming a couple hours after I get off work
And I'm here, 4-7am to watch some streams lmao
Ironically enough, BECAUSE she streams at these times, despite me being in Europe, it's usually a terrible timing for me because I have a really weird 'function/sleep' schedule in which I usually sleep during most of the afternoon and actually do stuff at... pretty much all the other times.
It's kind of unspoken rule around, if there's no funny stuff, or the girls not speaking english then most of the times us overseas bros stay quiet.
Only when funny stuff happen, or the girls ask something, or summon us with desk-kun we came to surface.
And it looks like JP bros also doing it in case Holo EN / Holo ID streams
In Haachama cooking stream case, the stream was full of chaotic moments so that rule can be disregarded.

I don’t think that 40% of Japan is watching Hololive...yet.
I wonder a bit about if her youtube analytics show a similar or different story.
That there is a lot of overseas viewers is very understandable. She shows lots of feelings when she talks, be it laughter or pain, and everyone understands peko. Because of that, it is very easy to understand what she is and what she does, even if you don't understand Japanese. Then there are the translations and the recent Moona arc.

Yes, she is genius to make every stream(especially minecraft) more interesting to watch
If you look at some of the things Pekora's accomplished, she's definitely got gears turning in that little head of hers. Note also, for example, just how rarely she actually ends up suffering major accidents.
There's no "Pekora burned her house down playing with lava" clips, there's no "Pekora stuck in a hole with a thorn bush" clips. She tossed a Netherite sword into magma once, but she was able to recover it, and the only major TNT-related accident she's been part of was entirely staged to prank Towa.
Hololive EN brought a lot of people into the rabbit hole, myself included. I'm sure all of Hololive and Holostars increased their overseas viewers in the second half of 2020.

There is an ungodly amount of overseas viewers that dont speak english too, always encounter them if you write in their native language

It’s really crazy though. Hololive brought the entire world closer together (not just the U.S and Japan) more effectively in the span of a single year than any political agreement. I’m proud to be a part of this community, and to be a pseudo-friend to everyone in it.
Kudos to Yagoo for making this year bearable!
Kaigai-niki only talk in the waiting room, when we're summoned, or when a reference that we get is made. Outside of that most of what you'll see are kusa, lol, wwww, or random shitposty memes
That is true. I'm not the only one that fell into the rabbit hole this year. I've been introduced to most of the Hololive members through OkaKoro and continue to do so with every Hololive videos. I don't even think I'm halfway there yet.
Was pretty evident, that those numbers can’t be only Japanese market. But I’m surprised Pekora has more overseas viewers.
Taking into consideration that her spoken Japanese seems relatively easy to understand (my Japanese is extremely basic and I can catch whole sentences, rather than single words, every now and then during her streams) and she's going the extra mile to reach out to her international/overseas fanbase lately, I can't say it doesn't surprise me.
Our chaotic neutral bunny is one of the most overseas friendly Hololivers and well... Pekoland is taking over the whole world as a result of that XD

Thank you Vtube Tengoku for the translated clips. He/She is one of the reasons why Pekora and the rest of the Hololive talents are introduced to us foreigners.

Hopefully having majority overseas will encourage Cover to invest in if not live translation, archived subtitled videos a few hours after air. Either would give me more reason to go to the main channels as opposed to clip translators
The Fun part is she can understand and read english better than any of the non english vtubers i watched... She is a genius
I mean, I'd argue Choco since I think she's pretty decent in English. There's Towa, though I dont really tune in to her stream but I believe her english is pretty good as well since majority of her watchers are overseas. I think they just didnt have much chance to show it.

Live Translators and clippers/translators have played a huge role and some have even saved talents from disappearing , Big respect
Yes..... We are taking over. Overseas viewers who watch her without knowing anything she says RISE!
I kinda panicked a bit when she suddenly pulled up statistics results. I thought she was about to show a list of countries.
And we all know how THAT went the last time.
The result was from the survey so it wont be that detailed
Im surprised Hololive/Cover haven't yet caught on to the opportunity they're missing, ie, have professional translators sub whole streams on the girls' official channels. Obviously not while they're live, but the archived streams could easily have overlaid or closed subs added.
Oh yes, the market demand is huge for that kind of thing, so it would be extremely profitable........ which makes me wonder why they haven't done it already. Hmmm.
Didn't Hololive have dedicated voluntary translator and clippers? They even have another translator in Spanish, Russian, Indonesian, Chinese, and Thai.
Maybe they are afraid that it will push the JP fans away? I mean if theres more of foreign fans that I dont know of I will be scared too
"Viewers statistics" Manager-san is sweating profusely.
Pekora is getting even closer to world domination. All hail our rabbit overlord
at that time if not for kagai-nikis that paved her way, she would only have 400k subs instead of 1m
And that was with her rarely interacting directly with us. Imagine a talent that is not afraid to pull out the eigo, like her kouhai Ririka.
I'm not even surprised.
Due to the influence of Coco, Haachama, Korone, as well as the rapid rise of Hololive EN and indie western Vtubers, combined with the critical contributions of translators and clippers, this was inevitable.
I'm from the U.S. and she's my favorite comedian
I think she has a point: the data may be skewed towards overseas fans depending on who say the poll 16.000 people out of a +1 million demographic is not exactly the best sample.
While translated clips definitely help spread popularity another reason Pekora (& Korone, Miko, etc) are so popular overseas is because they're super entertaining to watch even if you don't understand any JP or what they're talking about. Not only do have good taste in games but the way they play them are entertaining and leads to lots of clippable moments. Pekora's MGS 1-4 playthroughs were some of the few streams I actively looked forward to watching live every week as she was playing through the series.
This is a kaigainiki takeover 😈
overseas viewers, ASSERT DOMINANCE
I'm glad I participated in this survey
i'm proud of being able to be part of the kaigainiki that answered her census, congrats to all kaigainikis that answered, next time let's make increase the number, lol
I learned about Hololive around a year ago and made a habit to try and catch 2-3 words (and as much as possible when i started watching streams) that i don't understand during each stream and search for them in the dictionary. I knew some very basic Japanese grammar before (took a class where i studied using みんなの日本語 books). It was brutal at the beginning, but now i feel quite comfortable listening to some JP vtubers. Pekora is one of the easiest to understand for me actually. Her enunciation sounds clear for me and she's not using complicated language.
I believe that even just listening to streams without ever commenting can be beneficial for everyone who is willing to make minimal commitment. I know that it is the same for a lot of people - we sit silent because it's awkward to comment in language foreign to streamer and... Well. Japanese writing system is quite brutal and a lot harder to learn than spoken language. As everyone knows that's not the case for most other languages. When i studied English for example i was able to read whole novels long before i felt comfortable at holding conversation in English. So. Let's lurk some more folks!
One of the reasons that Pekora, Korone and Fubuki reached 1 mill subs are the overseas viewers. Right now I only watch streams from Hololive TBH.
Also just look at the sucess of Hololive EN. There is a huge market in the english, spanish, korean and portuguese language (maybe even french).
And of course thanks to all the clippers and translators who took a big role in the Hololive expansion.
Am quite impressed that people aren't spamming in chat considering they're being thanked by Pekora herself, guess thats cause they know it stresses them out when they cant read what they type which is understandable but for no one to type is impressive af.
Despite making up 59.4% of the population, overseas bros are only 20% of the chat
Also, it increased because it cures depression and makes us happy
Wow ive been looking vtubers since almost a year ago when the numbers were pretty much 100-150k subs and I CAN tell you translators have been the difference between the mass increase in those numbers, when i first found haachama there was almost non existing english comments
"ARE YOU WINNING PEKO??"
PEKORA: "YESS!! I AM!!"
It does feel nice thinking that I make up even a little of that 60 percent of overseas viewers.
Everyone here talks about how overseas bros populate more than half of Pekora's stream while me and my ass celebrating new year sees the graph as the pepsi logo
Pekora's laugh is responsible for turning many viewers into nousagis. We don't call it the rabbit hole for nothing!
Things like this always make me think of "I am Legion for we are many"
She has a point about the rising number of overseas fans in second half of 2020. But IMHO, the COVID-19 pandemic is the reason which contributes to that - since most of us become jobless or forced to stay indoors to avoid spreading the virus, all we can do is doing indoor activities, including watching RUclips. Somehow Hololive's marketing kicks in and many Hololive related streams appear in recommendations which makes a lot of us curious but ended up hooked up watching more. She's also right about fansubs helping to promote Hololive talents as well which appear along with the recommendations which really helps the EN fans the most.
