I bought a new build off Persimmon and inspected the house after receiving the keys, had over 100 problems they had to come back and fix, for example, they had painted over light switches when painting the walls, sockets were not flush with the wall, rusted fasteners in the window rails, radiators were not level, one was actually drooped so much the corner of it was on the pipe running underneath. Eventually I was compensated with 3% equity of the cost of the house due to me saying I would take it to the next level before finally the ombudsman.

This would be a great idea but the major home builders have far too much sway with legislation and governance, similar to the railways. Sadly I have retired from the building company I used to work for , and it saddens me to see what's wrong with the building trade . No way would that got past me . If we had any complaints it was my cock on the Block .
I suppose the scariest thing is that this most likely means no one is actually checking anything anymore, at all, and you see the immediate cosmetic stuff, but the plumb etc is obvious a lot of the time and surely there will be a lot of these harbouring even more serious defects that become a problem over the years, particularly with weather events and poor surrounding maintenance etc - how many New Builds for these top 5 volume builders do you think are going to have to be condemed before say a standard 25 year term? 50%?!
My daughter bought a red row new build. The architraves were about 18 to 20 mm above the floor! The carpet fitter even said he couldn’t fit carpets because of it. When I confronted the site manager he said they are cut off site ! So I said well why would you fit them if they are too short and he just shrugged! In the end they glued in small pieces of architrave ! What a joke 😡😡
I think the radiator is actually installed properly. They usually have a small tilt to allow removal of air when they are folled with water. Thats why they have a screw on top side on the "higher" side to allow all air to escape. But the rest scares the sht out of me ;)
People's attitudes are "gimme gimme gimme, I want a new house.". They don't want to know how the sausage is made. I am doing a renovation and you see all the mistakes the previous people did. Sometimes I just wish I had a "new" house but when you watch videos of new build snaggings it's just the same problems.
I'm not 100% but I think it is as every new build has to be signed off and I would liken it to purchasing a new car where you expect it to be perfect but you don't often know until you start driving it and faults start showing but you are probably more protected buying a car than buying an house.
Some of them might get fixed if you're lucky. What usually happens is the developer will stall and/or ignore you until your NHBC 10 year warranty runs out
4:53... it makes sense that basin and radiator have each been installed in the wrong room, the basin in a separate room for hand washing without disturbing the privacy of the toilet user.
It’s because the developers give the trades no time to build it’s all push push push and they don’t give a fuck (I’m a groundworker ) it’s the same for us , no time to do things right just have to do it FAST
If you don't think you have the time to do the work well, then you should refuse to do it at all. Or at least collectively work at the correct speed and screw the managers. They tighten your timelines because you keep meeting them. Classic project management trap.
i can promise you that little room that only leads to the bathroom was a change at the request of the buyer they just copy paste a bathroom and the buyer didn't look at the new design documents and just signed off on it.
If I ever look to buy a new build I know who to call to look it over. I'll then not buy a new build. Absolutely shocking. Tuna melts the lot of them. :)
Cavity-walls must NOT be bridged with insulation(insulation touching the outer walls inside the cavity-wall); or else moisture will transmit from the damp outer wall, through the touching bridging insulation, and into the inner wall; making the inner wall damp inside the building. Injecting foam into the cavity-walls stops the property from breathiing: resulting in drastic condensation saturation of the inner-walls inside the property. Cavity-walls that are already built up can NOT have cavity-wall insulation added. Cavity-wall insulation batts(panels) can ONLY be installed from the very start of construction of the cavity-walls. If cavity-wall insulation is to be used, there must be a large air space gap in-between the face of the cavity-wall insulation batts and the outer wall inside the cavity-wall; this includes an air space gap in-between the face of the cavity-wall insulation batts and the cavity-wall tie drip-points(which must point downwards in the centre of the cavity). Cavity-wall insulation batts must touch ONLY the inner-walls inside the cavity-walls (of course touching the cavity-wall-ties and retaining-clips also). Ask City & Guilds N.V.Q. (S.V.Q.) BRICKWORK teachers for PROOF of this.

Can you tell us which estates these are so that at least people can avoid them?
I think the radiator is actually installed properly. They usually have a small tilt to allow removal of air when they are folled with water. Thats why they have a screw on top side on the "higher" side to allow all air to escape. But the rest scares the sht out of me ;)
Yes but if you look closely this vent screw is lower than the other side of the radiator- so it's slanted the other way :) So it's even worse :)
@@vis1223 aww dang, you are correct! Its actually on the other side then the tilt xD
So why cant this be done before buying the house? Or is the house bought, whilst still being built?
People's attitudes are "gimme gimme gimme, I want a new house.".
They don't want to know how the sausage is made.
I am doing a renovation and you see all the mistakes the previous people did.
Sometimes I just wish I had a "new" house but when you watch videos of new build snaggings it's just the same problems.
I'm not 100% but I think it is as every new build has to be signed off and I would liken it to purchasing a new car where you expect it to be perfect but you don't often know until you start driving it and faults start showing but you are probably more protected buying a car than buying an house.
id love to know the follow up of these findings.. what usually happens when this gets reported to the developers?
Same
Some of them might get fixed if you're lucky. What usually happens is the developer will stall and/or ignore you until your NHBC 10 year warranty runs out
Your units of measurement are class, "4 custard creams out of plumb", hahaha.
4:53... it makes sense that basin and radiator have each been installed in the wrong room, the basin in a separate room for hand washing without disturbing the privacy of the toilet user.
nothing about that makes sense, that's just a house designed by someone's cousin.
That would only make sense if it was a public toilet with multiple cubicles.
This is my thinking, but it's kinda funny to see that kind of setup after the 1920s.
And people accept this for their £400k..... these builders are either rushed or unskilled, or possibly just dont care?
Price work and the prices aren’t brilliant neither
It’s 100% rushed by the developers, trades have no say in it we are just made to rush it in and move to the next one
It’s because the developers give the trades no time to build it’s all push push push and they don’t give a fuck
(I’m a groundworker ) it’s the same for us , no time to do things right just have to do it FAST
Got to keep the local area managers targets on point 🙄
No Pride in their work .
If you don't think you have the time to do the work well, then you should refuse to do it at all.
Or at least collectively work at the correct speed and screw the managers.
They tighten your timelines because you keep meeting them. Classic project management trap.
@@Christoff8188 true but if we don’t you won’t get any more work from them
@@Angus_____ there is that as well yes
Have you insepcted any NHBC certified buildings that are this bad?
I'm just realising, I'm the the winkle spanner.
And we make jokes about made in china when sh*t like this is being passed
Made in China, destroyed in UK. 👌
I want a new home, I need a project.😊
A new house. Get an expensive survey. Best money you’ll ever spend.
i can promise you that little room that only leads to the bathroom was a change at the request of the buyer they just copy paste a bathroom and the buyer didn't look at the new design documents and just signed off on it.
No I think it may lead off the kitchen and believe that you cannot have a toilet directly off a kitchen so the extra hallway gets around this.
Also doubles as a space station style airlock 💩
Guessing Managers where let loose straight after doing there gold or black cards online 😢
A meadow of weeds.. lmao
The joints should also be taped
