    • @SteinisBaratheon
      @SteinisBaratheon 9 лет назад +543

      I think it's too complicated for some people. It is a lot of history and a lot of nasty, tricksy dialoges for those who have no interest whatsoever in using their brain.
      Those who watch superhero-movies only for the fist-fights, pew-pew-pew-shootouts and blood-splattering violence will probably not like this film as much as it deserves.

    • @rebal180

      koalakid11 I heard it was because a lot of people thought it was another movie that turned away from the source material. After watching this video though I think it was one of the few movies that didn't do that.

      koalakid11 The "Before Watchmen" for Rorschach isn't as good as I would like. But I still own it. It doesn't have an in depth 'origin' story like Dr Manhattan or Ozymandias. But it's still cool. :)

      Yeah, this had nothing to do with his origins so much as it was a sum-up of the whole plot. Come on, y'all. There's plenty of material on Rorschach to have focused on nothing but where this guy came from and what he was about

    • @nesslucas1891

    "We've chosen to follow the only series that Rorschach has ever been in." This isn't an origin story, Its just a summary of the entire story of Watchman.

      I guess it's a proven fact: Rorschach IS the Watchmen.
      But yeah, I agree, it seems like a summary of the Watchmen series, not Rorschach specifically.

    • @wiseone1741
      @wiseone1741 9 лет назад +20

      This was annoying I wanted in-depth information about Rorschach. It's even more annoying that whilst I was going to give WM it's dues on little information, said information is readily available. This summary left a lot of information out, especially I believe the part regarding to his excelling in amateur boxing whilst in the care home, that I feel is information people readily want to know.
      Walter Joseph Kovacs was born on March 21, 1940, the son of Sylvia Kovacs, a prostitute, and an unknown father only known to Kovacs as "Charlie". His mother was frequently abusive and condescending towards him. In July 1951, at the age of 11, Kovacs became involved in a violent fight with two older bullies, and subsequently his living conditions were finally looked into. He was removed from his mother's care and put in "The Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children" in New Jersey, where he rapidly seemed to improve, excelling at scholastics as well as gymnastics and amateur boxing. In 1956, after leaving the Charlton Home when he was 16, Kovacs took a job as a garment worker in a dress shop, which he found "bearable but unpleasant" partly because he had to handle women's clothing; it was here that he acquired a certain dress fabric that he would later fashion into the mask he wears as Rorschach. In 1962, Kovacs scavenged the material from a rejected dress that had been special-ordered by a young woman with an Italian name. Though Kovacs learned how to cut and fashion the material successfully with heated implements, he soon grew bored with it, as it served him no real purpose at the time.[13]
      Two years later when buying a newspaper on his way to work in March 1964, Walter read about the rape and murder of Kitty Genovese, whom he believed was the Italian woman who had rejected the dress. Ashamed by what he read about the unresponsiveness of her neighbors, Kovacs became disillusioned with the underlying apathy that he saw as inherent in most people. Inspired by Genovese's fate, Kovacs returned home, made "a face [he] could bear to look at in the mirror" from the dress's fabric, and began fighting crime as the vigilante Rorschach. Initially, Kovacs left criminals alive, but bloodied, for the police to arrest. In the mid 1960s, he teamed up with Nite Owl II, a partnership which proved highly successful at battling organized crime.[13]
      In 1975, an investigation into the kidnapping of a young girl named Blair Roche led to the transformation of the "soft" Kovacs into the ruthlessly uncompromising Rorschach. He tracked the kidnapping to a man named Gerald Grice. At Grice's shack, Kovacs found evidence that Grice had killed the girl and had fed her remains to his dogs. Rorschach killed the dogs with Grice's meat cleaver and waited for his arrival. When Grice returned, Rorschach handcuffed him to a stove, poured kerosene around him, gave him a hacksaw and told Grice that he could cut off his own hand in order to escape. Rorschach then set the building on fire and left. No one emerged.[13] During a later psychological evaluation, the vigilante stated that Kovacs went into the shack, but that Rorschach came out.
      When the Keene Act was passed in 1977 to outlaw vigilantes, Rorschach responded by killing a wanted multiple rapist and leaving his body outside a police station with a note bearing one word: "neveR!".

    Just watched this again last night. Such a great movie in my opinion, and despite the fact that I haven't read the comics, I'm glad to see that the movie has primarily stuck to the original story. I don't know whether to be upset that they changed him taking justice out on that guy who killed the girl. He kills him with a cleaver, effectively showing his sense of punishing evil and putting down dogs. But in the comics, Rorschach handcuffs him and give him the option to escape the burning building by giving him a hacksaw, knowing he'll be too scared to saw it off. The kill is not quick or really by his hand. What do you guys think?

    Rorschach is truly a badass hero...he deserves more screen. We want a spin off about more adventures of Rorschach
    If I honesty say....zack Snyder is an awesome director though it always feels like he is missing some things. His Man of steel was awesome. He presented truth of being a gift instead of showing how cool is it to be a superhero. Though in the end he couldn't manage the same tone...the film didn't needed that heavy cgi effects in the end.
    Even sucker punch was good (I know this gonna offend many)....he presented story of a girl so differently how her imaginations can create possibilities
    I seriously think after Chris Nolan....the director doing best character development of the protagonist is zack snyder

      Except for one difference. When push comes to shove, Batman won't do what's necessary for the greater good (killing Joker), whereas vigilantes like Rorschach will make the call without question. Yeah, it's inhumane to kill another human, but in the end it's the ones like Rorschach that actually save lives.
      Look at Jigsaw, from the SAW movies. He's portrayed as the bad guy at first, but as the series continue you understand that he does what no one else will, and deals with criminals as they deserve it. He serves justice as it should be.

    *Rorschach:* Antihero - Not evil but not good either. - a psycho/sociopath, emotional, an interesting mind, has Paranoid Personality Disorder - He's interesting and different.
    *Dr. Manhattan:* Hero/neutral - Suffers from alexithymia or Schizoid Personality Disorder the inability to feel emotions and read emotions, He's apathetic - He's boring but unique.
    *Niteowl:* classic hero, nerd type of guy, he's a wuss. - Avoidant Personality Disorder, he believes he's of no good to anyone. - he's boring but also one of the only one's who's not a total fucking lunatic.
    *Ozymandias:* arrogant type of villain, his moral compass twists his ideology. - suffering from Machiavellism or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, mad with power, think's he's a god, thinks he is humanity's next generation in evolution.
    *Silk spectre:* suffers from Histrionic Personality Disorder, always needs attention, overly sexual behavior, no control of emotions - manipulative and egocentric.
    *The Comedian:* he suffers from Antisocial Personality Disorder, no regard for others feelings, not a care in the world for rules, norms or morals. - He is really interesting when it comes to a personal point of view of things.

      TheClanNemoireProductions I think I should narrate some of the facts about the origins of the Watchmen saga for you to make it clear that this epic is pretty far from a Batman ripoff. It was back in the old comic days that DC comics got the licenses of several characters from the bankrupted Charleton Comics publishing. The DC figureheads decided to let Alan Moore, one of Western comics' most conceptually potent writers, to make a rebooting story for the charleton characters, including The Blue Beetle, The Question, Nightshade, Captain Atom, The Peacemaker, and Thunderbolt. As a response, Moore wrote out what would be the entire storyline of Watchmen for this project, because, well, he's a genius who crafted Helraiser and V For Vendetta. However, DC comics found the story to be slightly unacceptable, due to its controversial concept depth that literally killed some characters or rendered them unusable for future storylines. This is why the charcters were completely reimagined into new characters specifically for this story: The Question became Rorscharch, Blue Beetle became Nite Owl II, Night Shade became the second Silk Specter, Captain Atom became Doctor Manhattan, The Peacemaker became The Comedian, and Thunderbolt became Ozymandias.
      As you can see, no Batman is involved here. Howevr, Watchmen is a best buddy with Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" as two of the most intense superhero comics ever made.

    I liked Dr. Manhattan's concept, but this guy is the one that really connected with me. I think he's an awesome character. If it was up to me, I'd have a series of movies made with him as the main character. While other heroes have superpowers, filler drama in their life, cliche struggles with their inner selves and what-not, Rorschach has a deep character that, while somewhat dark, is nonetheless incredibly interesting, unique and entertaining in its own way.

      Oddly enough, if you think about it. The movie was all about him, even at the end it ended with him like the beginning. Overall the movie follows him and his last ever quest to find the big plot. Every other characters just seemed like minor characters. If you're considering his appearances throughout the movie without his mask he had more screen time than most of the heros.

      batman doesnt rest during the day, than he has to be bruce and go through different kind of crap as leader of company and millionaire. he cant go out as batman during the daytime.
      neither he compromises, he does everything in his power to do what is right.

      @EpidemicPain 10 лет назад

      MrAnimepredator Lets compare,batman that,batman does not kill because it brakes his code despite the fact that joker killed thousands among those Jason Todd and he still did not kill the joker( or anyone else for that matter) while Rorschach is,you fuck with me and my morals you die
      He doesn't rest during the day?Explain why,because hes batman thats why,Rorschach is barely sleeps but does sleep,everyone needs to sleep....except batman
      We never see batmans day around the office if I recall,and the day time never bothered batman when he was in the justice league did it?
      And batman compromises,he revelead his identity to the justice league,He adopted like 4 kids at this point despite being "the Caped Crusader" that does everything on his own among others
      He does not make everything to do what is right,Red hood does that,not batman

    The one character that truly cared, and was intuitive enough to sense a larger, more sinister plot unfolding while everyone told him he was paranoid.
    He realized that we as a race need to have a moral compass *simply for the sake of helping and protecting each other* rather than out of a sense of religious dogma. He realized that peace based on a lie could not last. At best, Ozymandias only postponed the end of the world. If you need to go so far as to spend several years and billions of dollars to play the most intricate practical joke on the human race just to keep them from annihilating each other...maybe they're not worth saving to begin with.
    It's been said many times, and I'll say it again; Rorschach truly was the Nietzschean Superhuman.

    • @Pienoah

    • @fulldisclosureiamamonster2786
      @fulldisclosureiamamonster2786 6 лет назад +1

      Stopaskingformyname He _was_ paranoid. What intuition? All of hos detective work was based on a paranoid, erroneous belief. If it weren't for Dan Dreiberg, he probably wouldn't even have come close to exposing Veidt.
      I really don't know about "moral compass" thing. Rorschach didn't kill criminals for any other reason than his own dogmatic beliefs (ironic, huh?). He was perfectly fine with rape (as long as the rapist was a person he liked). I don't think he had any real moral compass beyond his black-white insanity.
      Peace based on a lie cannot last? Any historical examples? This is actually ironic, because the new Doomsday Clock storyline reveals that Veidt's scheme actually kept world peace going for several years. It wasn't until a journalist actually seriously investigated Rorschach's journal (and Veidt was exposed) that the world turned to shit and the US and Russia were at war again. Oops.
      Honestly, Rorschach is a great character, but people in his fanbase (such as yourself) tend to oversell him just a _little_ bit.
