    People mention Rivers's awkwardness in this interview but this is like the least awkward interview of that time era. His answers are awkward but he's still engaging, whereas in other interviews he barely engages at all.

    You know, it really sucks that this album was so bashed when it was released. But it's gained such a cult following since then, it'd probably be received really well if he did some more Pinkerton-ish music.

      I remember seeing this live. Sook-Yin Lee was always the normal host at the time. It was a complete coincidence that this happened.

    @J0rdanMan When it was first released people didn't like it, it actually got 2nd place in Rolling Stone Magazines' 'Worst albums of 1996' countdown. Now? It's classed as one of the greatest albums ever made.

    I used to like Weezer, now I am obsessed. Have to decide am I a Matt Sharp Weezer fan, or a Matt Damon Weezer fan. I like early Weezer genius, but I also like the Beverly Hills Weezer pop. Not a terrible problem to have.

      4000Wiggins I agree, it's been documented that Matt Sharp didn't like the low-key promotion of Pinkerton. He even said in this interview that he wanted Spike Jones to direct "El Scorcho" music video.

    Nice to know that Rivers finally made peace with Pinkerton. It was so sad to hear him ripping it apart for so long. At their show in Irvine this summer, he referred to Pinkerton as “awesome.”

      Sarah Kim actually, that girl is/was kind of an idol for rivers back then. In a 2001 interview he said he was 'starstruck' because of her.

    7:54 Matt and Brian are laughing at Rivers, makes me feel kinda bad. I think they weren't being mean-spirited, though.

      KingBowserVlog they were clearly frustrated with Rivers. I think those were very direct comments from two people being honest. They’re paid musicians, but the leader is doing things they don’t understand and they’re responding the only way they can.

      I don't think it was mean-spirited but it is possible they felt out of place with Pinkerton. Brian's comments, from how I interpreted it, sounded like he couldn't really relate with Rivers.
      I'd imagine there was tension with Pinkerton but now everybody seems happy.

    Everybody knows that rivers are shy because of the intervieweer reminds the asian fan who wrote a letter to him before Pinkerton. You can check this inspiration on across the sea, el Scorcho… Btw, if the song is good unplugged that means it will be really good plugged in.

    I remember watching this live thinking why is Rivers acting so shy, and why can't he look Sook-Yin in the eye...? Matt, Brian and Pat were always way better at interviews.

      Lee Penrose Rivers was just, shy i guess, ya know. Its just him. Besides, hes not shy anymore in his interviews compared to when he was younger.

      What? Rivers wrote the music and lyrics, played lead guitar and sang beautifully every time. All Matt did was sing out of tune falsetto and play root notes on the bass. He was such a try hard too, constantly mocking around and showing off to get attention. He was probably jealous of Rivers' talent and couldn't handle not being in the spotlight, and that's why he left to focus on The Rentals. He was a good hype man during the gigs, i'll give him that, but for everything else he was a proper douche.

      Weezer has been trash ever since he left over several albums. And the Rentals make better music! That's all the facts i need.

I'm not saying Matt was completely dispensable, I just think it's ridiculous that you value his contributions over Rivers', I mean Rivers' was the main songwriter of the band at the time, without him Weezer wouldn't even had existed. Rivers' had it all, the talent to write songs, the voice, the guitar skills and the charm to be the frontman. I don't care if he has a fetish for Asian women or whatever, it's his music I value.

      @@enzoferrari8223 And while it's true that Weezer has been mostly awful after Pinkerton, the first two albums were still Rivers' babies, hell he played every single guitar note in Blue. Matt leaving was a result of critics slaughtering Pinkerton leading him to believe there was no future for Weezer, that's why Rivers' became intent on being mainstream again and wrote nothing but shitty pop albums for the 20 years to follow.
