My opinion is the auto makers only install this feature so they can say their emissions are statistically lower. It has nothing to do with driver preferences.
As a former job as mechanic, but also now an engineer, keep the feature off if possible. It does save gas, but wears out the parts faster, especially the starter pinion gear. Cheap to replace, but access and labor isn’t.
you can take it one step further, hold down the 'deactivate once' option on the screen and make 'that' the shortcut, it removes one unneeded tap on the screen. I have an X1, love the car, hate idrive8
You can do the shortcut further using the DEACTIVATE function so that it cuts away 1 step as you can immediately deactivate at the shortcut page without going into AUTO START/STOP menu.

There is then a delay for the engine to come back on so that the car can move again after I press the accelerator. I don't want the engine cutting off all the time for brief stops. Fine, if I am sitting at a red light for 30 seconds the engine can switch off, but not because I use the brakes for less than a second while I switch into reverse.
Own this, been driving for almost a month now. Everything is perfe.... wait, one cannot simply make a perfect car. They just have to throw in that one annoying thing. Another thing I find interesting, some times fun and some times annoying, is the body roll. I feel like this car is cosplaying a rally car and it tries to throw me sideway when turning. I tried adjusting the seat height to no avail. The car feels solid when making a turn, only that I feel not attached to it on my seat.
They don’t want you to let the engine running. That’s all. So said emission wise but actually there is more chance than something wil broke wich means 💶💶💶

Start/stop is the worst feature ever. Manufacturers don’t care about us, they only need to “say” their cars are low emitions, even though in the long term the cons will nule the benefits. Idrive 9 isn’t a good operational system, it’s not so friendly, and it’s confusing, since even after 3 months of use you still need to look hardly for hidden features. Climate finctions definetly need phisical buttons. Try to close the outside air inlet when driving when you are crossing a poluted area and just tell me how easy it was.
I own this car as well, and this issue of auto start on default and ONLY deactivating once is an absolute design flaw and a shit show of an issue to be honest. needs to be fixed via software

At a stop/park, long press on “deactivate once” will bring up the bookmark option. But yea this guy is right.

On mine you can't even make Deactivate Once a shortcut anymore. Feels like they're trying hard to make people leave it on. Worst feature ever

That’s the one thing that drives me nuts about this, the no disable permanent start stop, so annoying, love the rest!

Most cars I’ve had it can be disabled permanently via OBD2 port. (German Cars)

You can hold on the deactivate button and make it a shortcut

in my audi i disabled it by pulling the shifter left for sport mode, that also disabled autostop.
In the X1, it is disabled in the sport mode.

All the electronics on new cars IRK me. Even on old BMW’s the electronics were annoying.. I can’t imagine have an electronic e brake or gear selector

Did you try disarming this with Bimmercode? I have deactivated it on a 2023 Mini JCW Clubman (301hp) using this.
Drove both and I like the Genesis better!!!
