How to make an Air Powered Water Balloon Cannon (Launcher)

- Follow along as we build this awesome air compressor powered water balloon cannon (water balloon launcher).
This little weekend project is all about water balloons, or launching them, by making a cannon to fire them that is! We shot water ballon well over 100ft into the air with this thing. Of course you can shoot many other projectiles out of it as well. It's made with sprinkler parts, PVC pipe, and PVC fittings. Schedule 40 or higher. You can use an air compressor or bicycle pump to charge it for portable firing, or leave the air compressor attached. Have fun and be safe!

NOTICE: This project is dangerous. You could hurt or kill yourself, or others, or cause property damage. Adult supervision is required at all times. You assume all risks. This is not a toy, and must be used with extreme caution. Wear eye and ear protection at all times and take other precautions as necessary. If you hurt yourself, it is your fault. Don't try this at home, unless you are prepared to accept the risks.
If you build this project, make a video and post it as a video response to this video! We want to see it, and we want our viewers to see it!

Depends on the PSI you use and the type of balloon you choose. Cheaper material balloons will explode in the cannon with the PSI too high. To answer your question I tried the following setup: I used some Dollar Tree water balloons with the system set at 120 PSI and a paper cup underneath them for support. I was able to get the balloon to shoot up to 125 feet with the barrel at a 45 degree angle to the ground.
I'm sure if you upped it to 150 with a stronger balloon you could get 200 feet.
about 2 cups of water in the barrel before you put the balloon in works better as a wading. it not only lubricates the barrel protecting the balloon as it leaves the barrel, it also allows you to shoot at higher PSI and add more velocity.
None of that will matter if the balloon ruptures. Which it will at higher PSI.
Maybe you can add some kind of protection against the walls of the cannon. Like a apdfs round.
You were given credit for design inspiration in the rolling credits at the end of the video. But I went ahead and linked your channel in the description text as well! Thanks for the comments.
FIRE FIGHTERS ARE INTERESTED ON YOUR PROTOTYPE.
CONGRATULATIONS SIR.!!! 👏👏👏
Awesomeairguns brought me here awesome videos
Fill the water balloons with paint
You could use this to lay down petrochemicals on a target before you fire an ignition shot, perfect for taking down foes!
If I were to angle the canon how far could the balloon reach?
use physics man. Calculate the force on the balloon by the mortar. Then time in the air would be determined by the vertical velocity of the balloon
Excellent could it not be angled to shoot at a target ?
Should hold glued PVC for 30-seconds as briefly held glued PVC joints tend to spread outward unless forced to set properly. 30-seconds seems-and--is--a long time but it is worth it, especially on important joints under pressure.
I use and prefer the push and twist method.
great video all around I cant believe you spray paint in that Purdy garage though.
Been doing it for 10 years and its still clean. :-)
TheGeekPub That's not the point though, using spray paint in closed space isn't safe to breathe.
yeah, i wish that's what I meant, good point vinny
Mike West Thought so but he's been doing it for 10 years and he seems fine. Maybe the more industrial grade spray paints would require protection and better ventilation.
Mike, did you ever make the Water Balloon Rifle (for greater accuracy) that you mentioned on the other channel.
TheGeekPub couldn't you also do the tube slanted for firing your enemies
I've actually done just that!
I wired the sprinkler valve and tested it before the final install. The only action is a clicking sound in the solenoid. Is that normal or is something wrong?
i didnt know TOURGE made water balloon cannons
Wish I had one cuz I got water balloons hand booms
this can also be used as a water cannon/air-powered fountain btw
It also can be used to fire poo down the loo 🚽
do you have to have the electronics cant you just add another valve?
I do. It's on my channel page.
Hey What is the black thing that have the cable??
wierd ... 9v really enoff to make work the sprinkler valve ... cus they are 24v ... eny other mods that u did in betwin ??
AWSOME
Well here in Idaho we'd use potatoes LOL. Great idea though.
Do you have a video for a bottle rocket launcher?
will you give me a link to it please?
where should i get the sprinkler valve from and what size.
I got mine at Home Depot. 3/4"

I made a water cannon the problem i'm having is the.ballons are breaking before they get out the tube 50 and 80 lbs pressure
Larry Headley You have to get better balloons or double wrap them.
I got the exact same rain bird valve as you and for power used 4 double a's...I tried it by putting water in the flow end and then connecting the power and I felt something inside move but the water didn't do anything, plz help...
+Paul Busch (IrobotGaming) It only works under pressure. That's how they are designed.
do I have enough power though?
+Paul Busch (IrobotGaming) I'm not able to answer that. I doubt it though. A 9V works fine.
Solenoids normally function under 9V-12V. :-)
will you give me a link to the video
good vids but the loud music befoe and after are really frustrating
+slimmers29 That was my first video ever. Its not like that in later videos.
cool
There are literally no trees where you live, are there?
can u aim it
will you do a custome made one and i could pay you ? urgentlu
?
Do you make sandwiches because it said geek (PUB).
Pub as in beer. :-)
