  • Hero's fountain is a device that lifts water to a higher height that it's origin in order to move to a lower position. This simple device was invented almost 2000 years ago and has several variations in making it but they all operate using the same concept. These devices will only run as long as there is water in the upper bottle. When the upper bottle drains out, it will stop flowing, usually drains in 2-4 minutes. The length of time is dependent on the diameter of the nozzle, a very small thin stream may last uptimes about 10 minutes.

Why not use this to power a water wheel generator?

You should monetize your videos. Make some money on the side.

Dosn't the lower bottle run out of water and then you must refill and reprime it to start it up again?

so it cant reach equilibrium if the bottom container is significantly lower right? will this run indefinitely, sans evaporation?

How high can u make the go am dreaming up a closed loop mini hydro plant and seeing what I can do to get the water up 16 to 20 feet back in the reservoir

  • @tariqrahal201

How long does the fountain run, does it run non-stop?

Thank you for writing Slow Motion as I had no idea what was happening there. Thought my internet was playing up.

Clear, good explanations of phenomenon and of the underlying physical mechanism. Enthusiastic and a pleasure to view.

Your videos are always so interesting. They really inspire me to make these kinds of contraptions and experiment. As a way to pay this back, here's a little trick that you don't know about. When you have to empty a bottle full of water/liquid quickly, give it a nice swirl just before pouring. This way you create a vortex or whirlpool inside the bottle that lets air rush in at the same time that water comes out. Hope you at least find that interesting!
