This is the difference between really high caliber amateurs and the Tour. Of course, the mental game is a part of this as well, but the tiniest issue in mechanics can mean EVERYTHING in this kind of competitive environment. You guys are so locked in... and us slugs out here, just living the game, are still thinking, “If I just had one more ball..”. And, for the record, I bought a Code Black the year it came out (after a demo with the RG Daredevil and Storm Phaze II) after 20 years of not bowling. Best ball I’ve ever owned until two years ago when I matched up even better with the Motiv Jackal Ghost. Still kinda regret not getting the Phaze II. That being said, my mechanics continue to be the main issue in consistency and I don’t have the time to invest in ratcheting them down. I’ll keep trying, though. GREAT video! Loved it!
Brad i was taught to look at the foul line for my mark using a hat way down on my face to my nose! Would throw AT my target not TO my target. Kyle I did the same change as I have gotten older cause I got tired of muscling the ball, having timing issues regularly, causing my feel to change from day to day. Body will thank you, less torque on back and thumb!!! Do big things this year fellas!!!!
Just had my first lesson with Aleta Sill at Country Lanes in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Very similar things she pointed out for me that Brad stated. 1) started ball push away on first step instead of second, 2) had some stutter steps in steps 2 and 3, so she stated I needed to do more of a walking motion, and 3) I was pulling down on the ball at the top of my backswing, instead of letting gravity take it. Had a couple more things to focus on after that, but I feel so much better now, like Brad stated. Just need to keep practicing the changes. Loved the lesson!
I have been pleading for Kyle to get this kind of coaching for about a year now... and am very glad to see it happening. Not only will this improve his overall game, but should also reduce much of the pressure he was putting on his hip (his one big injury concern). Looking forward to seeing Kyle having better success and staying on tour for a long time now!
working on footwork at the moment and as a 42 year old bowler who has been bowling since I was 5... its a tough task. Getting older in age, things are changing. body changes and I have to now change my approach. footwork is the first part of it and its a struggle!
This was really good. I paid for a coaching session with coach Jasnau, back when the USBC was in Reno. I had some of the same issues that Kyle is working on, pulling down from the top primarily caused by exaggerated push away and inconsistent walking timing during the approach. I haven't been on the lanes much due to the pandemic but do appreciate the continued posts with really useful tips and techniques to mentally absorb while waiting to get back to more normal practice and competition.
I miss bowling so much! Going on almost a year without it thanks to Covid. Got two weeks of practice with my new Ronavirus ball when our alley reopened and then CA shut them down again. 😔
Haven't been able to bowl in now 10 months thanks to covid. I have tried doing some drills at home to help make sure my arm swing path is straighter and not going behind my back.
That might have been one of my favorite informational videos yet! I struggle a lot with being to steep while also having the ball come off my hand too early! This gives me a lot of stuff to work on!
Brad, I like the comment about the early release of the ball preventing balance problems. I see a few guys whose release is like that, and they are consistently on line, and their roll is more consistent as well.
Great video. Totally can relate with Kyle with dropping the ball on my first step. And with Brad getting the ball off your fingers quicker while squaring up. Thanks guys.
I am a 220 avg tournament thumbless bowler, and I love watching these videos, great insight. I wish I could throw as fast as you guys can, I am capped at about 15 MPH because of the thumbless technique, but my technique allows me to keep my arms level, which allows the ball to get off my hand quickly. You guys just brought a lot together for me. Now if only my state would open up bowling.
I have always bowled better with Urethane, its a thumbless bowlers best friend. It also completely trashes lanes for your opponents. Now if only I could be a lefty throwing urethane, my avg would be more like 230
Right now I’m working on my balance at the foul line, I’m working on walking normal and not taking a cross step on the first step. I’m working on my release and having my pointer finger pointing down, I’m learning to get closer to my ankle, and last thing I’m working on the push away to have a straighter swing
The Hitch is actually useful. It acts as a launch setup confirmation and trigger point. From it you can decide whether to continue or abort. Many persons take a small step rather than your hitch midstep. As for you pushaway, it should vary according to how fast you want to bowl. “Mr 300” Bob Learn Jr employed these very two tactics mentioned to great success!! His pushaway however was started from the nadir of his swing and his hitch was his initial tiny step. From both he could feel whether everything was correct. From that he could easily repeat his shot and make tiny adjustments as necessary.
I do the exact opposite of what brad does. My ball literally hits just before the foul line. Im also working on a lower backswing like kyle because if i get too high me hand wobbles all over the place. Great content, keep it up!
Something to also consider is the ball weight. If your using a lighter 15oz ball, high backswing does occur. So maybe increasing the ball weight, say .2 to .4 of an oz would help level out the swing also. That hitch you refer to, seems like a product of your push away, where your swing has to catch up with foot timing so your step, stutters a bit to keep you balanced.
Timing has been a issue for since I got back to bowling (been away for 10 years since bowling collegically) but that and not coming over the top of the ball was my issues. This video did help clarify especially the step part, definitely do that myself
Please make more videos like this I loved watching your guys practice session and please make a video challenging each other I think that would be a great video!!!!!
Excellent video. I really liked the fact that you made it a point to explain the difference in feeling when trying to learn something new. Making changes is hard because we always gravitate to what feels normal. It’s a huge advantage to be with Storm and have access to great coaches like Mike Jasnau.
Nice to know that Kyle is working on backswing issues, too. I'm really looking forward to getting some coaching this spring from one of the local Storm staffers here in Clarksville. I can only imagine how much my game will improve.
I had the same exact backswing issue, and when I noticed and fixed it, I also felt like I was barely swinging the ball. Even though the scores and consistency shows it’s working, you still feel like you are barely moving that ball. Stay with it.
Looking great and now that I see this it will help me. I’m actually really interested in seeing what you had to do with all the bowling balls and such from Brunswick.
I played 2 games a couple days ago and blew a great game, ended with 183. Not even within 20points of my best but still was great. 4 strikes, 3 spares, 3 horrific opens. I had 4 strikes in 5 frames, my best streak was 5 strikes in 6 frames
kyle kept his back swing down but still moved the ball on that first step, can yall do more on arsenal building, im trying to figure out what to put in mine but not sure so i dont even know if im going to stick with one brand or multiple brands
Today i bowled City. As one of the Usbc coaches who was watching over scores. Told me that i could be a amazing bowler if I work on not shorting my release.. Basically grabbing the ball to fast. But instead just reaching out and letting the ball do the work.
I'd love to see more of these videos, they are insightful and it's nice to know some specific things that might apply. Even livestreamed practices would be nice.
In the second shot showing how you hold the ball in your first step when you made your shot your foot went over the foul line. Love your guys videos keep it up!!
Hi Brad & Klye, my name is Steven Whitehouse. And I Bowl with Special Olympics Of New Hampshire. I'm with a team called the Manchester Alley Cats. I've been watching your videos for a while and loving them. I'm currently on vacation here in Port Richey,Florida. But I live in Allenstown, NH. And bowl at Yankee Lanes in Manchester, NH. I've been working on my form in 10-pen bowling. But been looking into hooking the bowl. But I keep twisting too early, and it ends up in gutter when I try to hook the ball. So for I've been just bowling normally. I also have issues with releasing.
The reason why I come to Port Richey, Florida is to work on my game and to improve my scores. I'm also doing this in honor of a dear friend who died last April 2020. His name was Peter Fleming. He was a great bowler for Special Olympics. Is there any other videos that you have that can help me improve my scores & also form?
Really great video. I had a lesson with Coach Jasnau about a year and a half ago and I can relate to the first thing you are working on. He gave me 3 things to work on too and I still can't do the third one... a higher backswing.
First the videos are always informative. At 78 I also am working out a pause on the 2nd step. So far the solution is NOT to think about the steps. We don't think when we walk. I notice you don't put the right foot in front of the lef on the 2nd step so the ball clears the hip easier.
“he King of Swing” Mike Fagan had a really high backswing and was very successful. It’s just a matter of your anatomy, comfort and control whether to adopt it or not.
The point is his shoulders are still level even with his high backswing. Since his backswing is high, his left arm is pointed down to the ground to create that straight line across the shoulders. Kyle’s left arm is pointed more out, so lowering his backswing helps keep it in line
I really enjoy watching your videos and I try to apply most it to the best of my abilities, but my problem is that I’m a 2 handed bowler and I’m not sure how to apply certain things. There’s also not much of a guide I’ve found to 2 hand technique online.
It’s funny to me to watch high rev guys figure out how to throw it straight. lol. I have about a 350 rev rate and I just pipe the shit out of every shot and I want to get a little more hand, project the ball and be behind it more as my standard hand position. We always want what we don’t have. Lol
Great video guys! I really enjoy taking your tips and adding it as part of my game. I took some time off from bowling, and am picking it up again. I'm so inconsistent, bowling a 190, then a 94. I'm struggling with my release where my hand stays on the ball too long. I'm hoping to turn it around with more of your tips!
I know for sure when I think about my approach as I'm doing it I mess up terribly as opposed to just not thinking about it and just rolling the ball out there.
@ Kyle, for the two handers, it's actually reversed. Belmo had me move the ball on the first step and it lowered my backswing a ton compared to what it was when I still used one handed timing in a 5 step approach. But yes, Coach Jasnau is correct in keeping the ball still until step 2. I have to use my two handed timing when I switch back to one hand but to make up for it, I go to 6 steps as a wind up step (1 back, 5 forward) to sync my body up. Keep grinding man.
One video that no one really seem to touch on is physical maintenance of the body. Things to look out for to avoid injury (wrist, forearm, elbow, bicep, shoulder, lower back, knees, etc.) as well as exercises to strengthen weak points and stretches to minimize chance of injury. Great video though.
I got the opposite problem of Brad. I have a hard time playing a bigger hook. I'm a lefty and play straighter the majority of the time, but when I need to open up my angles it's tough for me to do. I know, poor lefty and lefty problems. Bowling left-handed can be harder. 🟢
Brad how are you making that change to be cleaner at release? Is it hand position or do change your grip pressure? It would be nice to how you make that change from shot to shot or what you're think when you want it off super clean? Thanks for the awesome content
I've averaged a 216, 211, and 205 in the 3 leagues I've been in this year. With that said. I'm interested in possibly getting involved in the PBA tour. I'm curious what the worst part of the PBA tour is? I imagine it's the travel costs especially when you're not making money back while on tour? I know sponsors take care of some of if not MOST of the travel costs for the PBA's best players but how does one go about getting sponsored if they have the skill set in place and want to take it to the next level?
When you were showing the hitch you moved the ball down on your first step like you were trying not to do before 😂 I have a pretty sharp pushaway which raises my backswing and makes my timing late. Gah when I think about it I can round it off, but the moment I think it’s muscle memory I stop rounding it off. Drives me crazy.
So, not trying to say I'm great, but I am a higher level bowler. Just want to say you guys are awesome, and I actually have a lot of the same issues. Hopefully now that I'm thinking about it I can get back to where I need to be. Thanks guys. P.s. the back swing is a big thing with me.
Great content! My question would be if Brad is getting his hand out of the baller quicker, would it always amount to a ball change as well? What would be dependent on that? You mentioned your ball rolling weird. Thanks guys! Good luck in Texas!
Not moving the ball until my second step is a constant struggle. One thing I'm having trouble with as I'm getting back in the game is taking big enough steps to make it to the foul line. I'm actually ending up a good foot or so before it. Any drills I can do to help with step size and getting to the foul line better?
You can qualify for PBA membership by cashing as a guest in a PBA tournament, averaging 200 or more in league, or by averaging 190 or more in a sport league. To actually get on the tour requires enough money to pay entry fees and travel expenses. I would suggest trying PBA regionals as a guest before committing to PBA membership even if you already meet the average qualifications, so you can see what the level of competition really is.
Hey guys, I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now. Honestly, I’m considering getting back into a fall league. The funny thing is I haven’t bowled in a league since 1993 and now I’m 54 years old. I was a scratch bowler the last 3 years of league bowling and want to get back to that point. I’m looking for suggestions on bowling balls. Back then I used 5 different “1st” balls and 1 spare ball. All were Columbia 300 balls but seriously looking at Storm balls. My thoughts were getting one asymmetrical ball, one symmetrical, and one spare ball, to start. What thoughts do both of you have, that can help me on my journey back to league bowling. Great videos and good luck on tour
You're right he's hesitation is because he forcing the timing of a 4 step approach into 5 steps. Only way to slow it down with the movement is hesitation.
So, I am a new bowler and was just wondering if he was crossing the foul line on purpose. Don't the pins reset every time you foul? So instead of resetting the pins with the button after every shot, the system is doing it automatically so he has a fresh setup each time. Just curious.
Im a two handed bowler, I'm interested in your coaching lessons/videos but knowing both of you are traditional one-handed bowlers, what do you suggest? Will your lessons be able to help me too?
I bought a starter pack of ball, bag and shoes at my local bowling alley's pro shop. The ball is a Storm Matchup. I have used the ball several times now and I am having more trouble throwing strikes than I was with a lane ball. I am great at making spares with it though. It seems like I am not getting good hook with this ball. What would be a good step up to use?
I know it’s not a storm ball, but I’ve had a radical squatch hybrid since March of last year, and it’s doing wonders for me, it’s great on a lot of lane conditions, so maybe give that a try, and I’ve had a rhino for six to seven years, and I’ve shot a lot of 200 games along with my highest of 269 and I’ve loved the ball, so those would be my recommendations but I don’t have money to buy more balls, so I don’t know about many others, but I did have Columbia 300 blur hybrid that also worked well for me

That being said, my mechanics continue to be the main issue in consistency and I don’t have the time to invest in ratcheting them down. I’ll keep trying, though. GREAT video! Loved it!
Now both of y’all are with Storm, y’all should do a vlog at the Storm bowling HQ in Utah!
I’ve been working on wrist strength, in my opinion having the strength helps sooooo much with control

My coach back in college always told me with my push away, to think "up and over the bar" to keep my timing good... Worked ever since
I just got the by-rode by storm I love it and I used it yesterday i need to work some stuff
Thank you for your hard work.
step moves,timing and hard.
It`s very helpful . I`ll practice right away.
Kyle, your tip (holding the ball longer to the second step) worked for me! I added that plus no longer pushing the bowl out... great tips!
This was really good. I paid for a coaching session with coach Jasnau, back when the USBC was in Reno. “That’s for you Belmo.” - 😂 😂
Been a while since a Belmo jab. 😆
I miss bowling so much! Going on almost a year without it thanks to Covid. Got two weeks of practice with my new Ronavirus ball when our alley reopened and then CA shut them down again. 😔
Same boat. :-(

Its cool to see you guys on my neck of the woods. I live in salt lake. It would be awesome yo see a pro tournament come through town. You guys rock
I was told years ago about my high backswing. Once I lowered it in practice, I also felt like my arm barely went higher than my knees.
I've worked on maintaining the ball still for the first steps. as well as balancing myself
I do the exact opposite of what brad does. My ball literally hits just before the foul line. Im also working on a lower backswing like kyle because if i get too high me hand wobbles all over the place. Great content, keep it up!

Looks like you were at Ben Lomond Lanes in Ogden. My grandmother bowls league there

Me too Curtis, and I'm closer to 275 on my good days. Lol
Is that ben lomond lanes in Ogden Utah
Great video guys! I really enjoy taking your tips and adding it as part of my game.

I got the opposite problem of Brad. I have a hard time playing a bigger hook. I'm a lefty and play straighter the majority of the time, but when I need to open up my angles it's tough for me to do. I know, poor lefty and lefty problems. Bowling left-handed can be harder. 🟢

They old guy in back in all tan is killing me.
I’m actually really curious about Kyle’s shoes
Which brand is it ?
I’d like to know the same. The soles look thinner (mine are thicker than what I’m used to using House shoes).
About for 10 years straight then I can't get up but your guys videos pretty helpful Is me a new Look on how to do different things

costs especially when you're not making money back while on tour?
I know sponsors take care of some of if not MOST of the travel costs for
the PBA's best players but how does one go about getting sponsored if
they have the skill set in place and want to take it to the next level?
Excellent video!
After having had a few lessons with coach Jasnau i found Kyle’s presentation very familiar. 😃
Kyle would you consider keeping your backswing higher, but just lower your front arm to keep them level instead of lowering your backswing?
So, not trying to say I'm great, but I am a higher level bowler. Just want to say you guys are awesome, and I actually have a lot of the same issues. Hopefully now that I'm thinking about it I can get back to where I need to be. Thanks guys. P.s. the back swing is a big thing with me.
please sit down the both of you and talk about the balls and layouts that you guys work with. Maybe tell us your PAP and what layouts work for you .
Hello Brad and Kyle! I have been having Trouble staying balanced at the foul line. Is there anything I can do to stay balance d at the foul line?
Well you’ve probably heard this but keeping it easy and not forcing the ball helps
I've been having that same issue, especially when I try to slide.
@@martysnyder6799 I’ll try this, thanks for the tip!
Nice video guys !
What's your layout you go with
FINE TUNING!!! NICE!!!
Great content! My question would be if Brad is getting his hand out of the baller quicker, would it always amount to a ball change as well? What would be dependent on that? You mentioned your ball rolling weird. Thanks guys! Good luck in Texas!
Good video guys
So I sign up for your membership I get any storm ball? Does it matter what their?
If you sign up for the annual(500$) you get a storm ball of choice with it
@@BradandKyleBowl oh ok
Kyle got new shoes but his new enemy is the foul line
Are we not going to talk about him crossing the foul line
I thought I was going crazy for a second, I kept noticing that
Not moving the ball until my second step is a constant struggle. One thing I'm having trouble with as I'm getting back in the game is taking big enough steps to make it to the foul line. I'm actually ending up a good foot or so before it. Any drills I can do to help with step size and getting to the foul line better?
How does one get on the PBA tour?
From what i heard you have to be in a usbc league and you have to average like 220 or something
@@bxtchery I think it’s 200 according to the pba sight
@@drsausage5864 could be, but if so my dad couldve been in a while ago, he averages like, 215
You can qualify for PBA membership by cashing as a guest in a PBA tournament, averaging 200 or more in league, or by averaging 190 or more in a sport league. To actually get on the tour requires enough money to pay entry fees and travel expenses. I would suggest trying PBA regionals as a guest before committing to PBA membership even if you already meet the average qualifications, so you can see what the level of competition really is.
Hey guys,
I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now.
What are your thoughts about wiping the ball off or leaving the oil on the ball? This question applies to first and second ball deliveries.
Awesome hope I can play with you someday 😊
I've been working on my backswing as well, why does it feel like it doesn't come pass your butt? I thought it kind of odd when I experience it lol
Because your arm isn't used to it
I tend to twist my wrist when I bowl do you have any tips?
Hesitation likely is a timing response to lowering the ball. Eventually curing one will help cure the second.
You're right he's hesitation is because he forcing the timing of a 4 step approach into 5 steps. Only way to slow it down with the movement is hesitation.
Kyle was just lucky the foul lines were not on
Was just gonna say the same thing lol
Lol! For sure!
every single throw lmao
I don’t think they have foul lines I go here
@@tortle6011 what thhey just dont have them on
So, I am a new bowler and was just wondering if he was crossing the foul line on purpose.
Of course!
@@BradandKyleBowl last question! Is the only payment option the 1 time payment or are there other options available?
I bought a starter pack of ball, bag and shoes at my local bowling alley's pro shop. The ball is a Storm Matchup. I have used the ball several times now and I am having more trouble throwing strikes than I was with a lane ball. I am great at making spares with it though. It seems like I am not getting good hook with this ball. What would be a good step up to use?
I know it’s not a storm ball, but I’ve had a radical squatch hybrid since March of last year, and it’s doing wonders for me, it’s great on a lot of lane conditions, so maybe give that a try, and I’ve had a rhino for six to seven years, and I’ve shot a lot of 200 games along with my highest of 269 and I’ve loved the ball, so those would be my recommendations but I don’t have money to buy more balls, so I don’t know about many others, but I did have Columbia 300 blur hybrid that also worked well for me
if you want to stay with storm i would recommend the og hy road.. not too weak and not crazy strong either.. but stronger than the match up line.
You guys should do another arsenal video with the new balls
Kyle’s got the Charles Barkley yips!
