Isn't it strange how when society judges those on the streets strung out and addicted. Society calls them junkies and etc. Yet we have actors and actresses who come out as addicts and we say oh how sorry we are. Yet we don't give those on the streets the same compassion.

Very true. Help, unfortunately, is mostly for the rich. MP wrote his book. Good for him. But most people can't relate to his story. Spending millions on rehab and help ? Calling people when you hit bottom ? People on the street are on the street because they reached bottom. Period.

As long as you are an addict on substances, only God has the power to help you. Nothing is a bigger waste of human lives than drugs and alcohol. It’s extremely sad. For what it’s worth, I pray for the people on the streets whether it’s by drugs or mental illness or other circumstances. Just because it isn’t publicized, that doesn’t mean people don’t care. There are programs to help them you can participate in too. If they know people care it can encourage them to care enough about themselves to change. I never think much about the celebrities. I usually pray they’ll stop being stupid in general.

Exactly, I never could tell he was facing all this. He's very professional obviously. Where as Charlie Sheen even though a good actor, you could tell he was a little intoxicated or inebriated toward the end of Two and a Half men. How both guys managed to do their job still is amazing.

@@easye5653 The thing is, everyone looks and judges everybody from the outside but nobody knows what's really going on the inside. You can look perfectly healthy and happy and still be both unhealthy and suicidal.
There are RUclips videos of seemingly happy people who then killed themselves the next day. You just never know what's really going on behind the scenes but I can assure you, some of the most happy-looking people are often the most miserable, just by the mere fact that they desperately try to look happy to everybody else.

I'm halfway through his book & it just makes me want to cry, then watching this, you want to reach through the screen, take his face in your hands & calmly say 'Matty, you ARE enough'. Sadly, like too many others we've lost to this disease, 'before their time', it just sounds like the end of his story would be just as inevitable. As much as he's missed, I so hope he's finally found the peace & lasting happiness that had eluded him for so long while he was here with us.

I never had an addiction, well in my early 30s it was beer for about 3 yrs and realized it was not what I wanted and stopped.
I will buy his book because I'm curious of his struggles and why taking so many pills. I hope maybe people who know someone addicted can buy this book to give to them to help them. I don't know anyone addicted but perhaps after I read it I can bring it to a homeless shelter to share or a church or rehab center. I don't know where but will do something with it. #MatthewPerry

This is a heartbreaking story. I was under the impression Perry had been clean and sober for many years, so I was shocked to learn of his most recent relapse and serious set-back from recovery (which has severely impacted his health). I'm no expert, but opiates and meth seem to be extremely dangerous, powerful narcotics that alter a person's brain and body chemistry - making it excessively difficult to remain clean and sober. In contrast, many people will typically tire of the insidious, insane nature of cocaine, and quit the drug after several years. This does not seem to be the case with opiates (whether pills or heroin), as well as meth - as people who desperately want to quit seem incapable of doing so. My heart and prayers go out to Perry and all of those family's who are suffering from this horrible affliction.

Can't speak on celebs behalfs with the money and people just handing shit out to them (just what I've heard from other interviews over the years - there's Hollywood dealers) but as a recovering addict I never in my life thought something would ever control me. And painkillers just took over. I was nowhere near Perry's consumption but the 500mg a day oxy habit was the HARDEST thing I've ever experienced kicking. (5 years clean now as well as full custody of my two little girls.)
Started out with back issues at 21, herniated some disc's doing construction. Docs wrote the script and just continued writing them like candy. Goes from those 90 lasting a month to four days. It takes years to just learn how to be normal again. As an addict, from my own experience it's something that's always there and you deal with your entire life. What still helps me is just staying busy. I can only imagine what it's like being in the spotlight trying to deal with it. Hope he keeps his head up, keeps himself clean, and lives out a happier, more fulfilled life.
Almost 30 now and honestly I wouldn't change it. Made me grow as a person. Learn from the mistakes you make. All any of us can do. Advice to anyone thats there, or thinks they're too far gone - I promise you it's possible to make it out the other side better than ever.

Quitting drugs or alcohol is like 20% of the work. The remaining 80% is the every day work on staying clean and sober. That is the hardest part. Most addicts relapses sometimes in their lives.

This is beyond “difficult” to watch at this point. What a tragedy…
I can’t help but wonder what his last moments must have been like. I mean, he’d obviously been through hell and back several times throughout his life, but ultimately seemed to be in a very good place, all things considered. I’m not sure we will ever really know what happened to Matthew Perry and while I think it’s true the world wasn’t “surprised,” it was (and continues to be) SHOCKED. Everything I read and/or watch about Perry just makes it more and more depressing. While I absolutely hope you now, “rest in peace,” it’s somewhat comforting to know that you might have finally found some peace in your life, after so much pain. 🙏🏼
