I really neeeded this video thank you so much, I thought I would never kick high or do splits again after this. This gives me hope to keep training and come back from this
Comforting video, thank you. I have the same as you which came about after a t-bone car accident. Did you ever feel your hip was sore to touch or swollen? I'm six months out and it's very sore and looks inflamed over the C-section. Thanks again
@@uimprovedpt So, I got the surgery because I was in so much pain. Ended up with massive labral tear, rim trim, torn ligamentum teres and synovitis, and chondral loose fragment lodged posterior aspect of the acetabulum. Rehab quite tough but I read Kelly Slater had a similar injury accidentally doing the splits on a wipeout and he's back to surfing! Everyone's hip pain is different. Time will tell if I feel better.
Im starting to get better slowly slowly, I found some exercises that have been helping a fair bit also my flexibility and end ranges are getting better.@@pinkdeini
@@pinkdeini Not anymore! Typically, if a movement increases pain, that means that it is irritating the tissues. I simply trained the ranges and movements that did not increase pain, preserving the tissues, then slowly over time (months, for some movements years) explored further ranges, avoiding painful ranges.
What types of exercises and mobility did you do and probably still do? I am 17 years old and just got diagnosed with pincer fai in both hips and my PT is recommending surgery to prevent arthritis in my future. I want to keep my active lifestyle and I have a feeling surgery is going to take that away from me
Surgery will definitely keep you from being active for a few months, but as you can see, I had surgery on both hips, STILL had FAI and labral tears AFTER the surgeries, and can do everything I want to do. I actually got really into health, fitness, and strength at your age. Check out this video for some guidance on the types of exercises and mobility exercises: ruclips.net/video/zJ7zRLLqI8M/видео.html
How do you know if you need surgery or not and when it is indicated? I have fai CAM/pincer and also a PT but dont see any improvements in mobility and function. I dont know if I have to get the surgery because I dont progress and cant really do any leg training because of knee and hip pain. I feel at my limit
It is a difficult decision to make. Typically, if conservative (PT) treatment does not improve your symptoms, consulting a hip preservation specialist would be a good next step. I would also recommend getting a second PT opinion (PT evaluation and treatment vary wildly and sometimes they don't have the time or resources to properly assess and help). I recommend finding a PT who works 1-on-1 with their patients (usually self pay but totally worth it). Hope this helps and good luck!

Brilliant resource and a noble path you've taken. Thank you
Thank you! It's been a long and tough road!

If you are experiencing those symptoms, best to get them checked out by your physician or surgeon. Safety first!

Martial arts is my passion! Just make sure you continue to work on improving your hips and managing your pain, just like I did!
You’re not worried about causing more inflammation and irreparable damage?? I’m in the same boat 😢

Also maybe the severity of the bone shapes matter?
