Never been a day in my life I have not been able to really play (except broken fingers, vacations, etc). But yet I wake up everyday needing to play to make sure I can still do what I was doing the day before. Never been able to shake that feeling.
I don't know about you but after a significant time without playing guitar and then playing again, even when my technique got worse actually I find myself being more creative and I have a sense of freedom that translates in my improvisation and and writing.
Uncle Ben, you're legitimately the best guitar teacher on this platform. You have no clue how many times I've been stuck on something, watched one of your videos, and then started making some progress. Cheers for being a fuckin madlad
It's funny how technics evolve , it's exactly the same thing for build up speed in running. People realised that training fast for longtime is painfull and not worth it , instead running slow pace and alternate with speed it's better. Well done uncle Ben you're a wise Guy with lot ofexperience ! 😁 And thanks a lot for your channel it's a gold mine
Thanks for yet another insightful lesson. Just wanna add that whenever I find myself out of shape my go to is the punisher you've shown on one of your early vids. Really gets my chops in order.
Hey brother you have totally changed my outlook on guitar playing and I am on the verge of turning 60 years old and when I listen to you you make my day or night whenever I'm listening to you and you make a lot of sense and everything you talk about man thank you for all your wonderful information the way you handle things really inspires me God bless power to the people Jesus name
This is going to be one hell of a life saver for me next month. Studying for a hellspawn of a test until early november, and not getting the time to practice hahah. Thanks, Uncle Ben! Now my shredery is safe and sound!
Great video and instruction. I’m an old guy that loves playing rock/thrash. Just missing a couple of days is enough for the arthritis to slow me down. Thanks!
All my music projects went to shit, I haven't played in 6 years. About to start back up going to use this technique. I will be in long term rehab. LOLZ!
Another one i do, usually after doing different combinations of 4 notes per string, its doing the c major scale across the whole fretboard, and also going from 8th notes to triplets to 16th notes, sometimes i also try other timings for practice, btw, thx uncle ben, you are the best, ill be doing this soon (hopefully) once im back from my rest (i injure myself for being stupid and building to much tension on my fretting hand :( by over practicing none other than tornado of souls btw lol, also a million thx for that awesome video on it as well, really helpful and insightful)
Excellent advice and explanation, as always. The upstroke variation is a great addition to help develop powerful and crisp alternate picking. This sounds like a great method to practice scale patterns and sequences with also, rather than the typical straight 8s, triplets, or 16s. Thanks!
I'm definitely in need of some guitar rehab..used to play everyday for hours years back..then adulting happened and as a single mom i had no choice but to focus on other things more...but some things have changed for a better and i need my chops back.thanks for this vid! 🤘🤘🤘
Great advice. When I'm practicing or learning something new I have a preset that barely has any distortion and no effects at all until I've got it down perfectly. BTW congrats on the new house!
I generally play to a backing track and if I feel I need a fast part over it I will work out the fast part first then just hit the ground running and play it. I won't get it but I don't go slow at first to fast. If I make a mistake I repeat and concentrate more on that mistake the second time through till I have it. This takes time and lots of mistakes to start with but me challenging myself and driving my fingers forces them to move even if they didn't hit the target. They get closer and closer till I nail it.
Use this for string skipping too. Start with playing octave chord type shapes, then swap fingers around so your playing a backwards octave chord. Works with powerchords too.
Hey I'm probably old enough to be your older brother, but I've watched a few of your video's and you raise a lot of good points, so if it's uncle Ben you want, uncle Ben it is. I ain't arguing with that, especially if your helping my guitar sucking bits out. Cheers uncle Ben 😜👍 you have one more subscriber
watching this specifically bc I am getting sore in said drumstick area, had no idea you would formally address this specific area, so....double bonus, and many thanks again. I literally get like, panic-level, when any guitar playing associated pain creeps in and immediately try to back off and if possible, properly diagnose and course-correct --and these are great tools for doing just that. The thought of being completely grounded is effing terrifying. I have only ever had acute/stupid accidental non-guitar related upper extremity injuries and any time in a splint or cast is just depressing at best, but it's finite (I'm not counting any superficial fingertip/side of thumb shredding injuries which is more character building/earned). But the thought of a sidelining chronic thing like a neuropathy or sumthin' . As always, thanks Uncle Ben.
I Like to practice the 3 note per string runs in the beast and the harlot by avenged sevenfold. Those licks sound furious and are really good if you want to practice 2 way pickslanting. I think synyster economy picks that but I prefer alternate picking.
The last 3 days i didn't practice because school and stress things, well, that is going better, and i noted that kinda "disappear" my shred powers (? this helps a lot with my preocupation about picking sloppynes. Greetings fron Argentina ♡
Rehab clinics = helps you get clean Rehab with Uncle Ben = helps you play clean This video is a godsend. I've been trying to get back into playing guitar and I was almost ready to use that weird green demon-shaped pick that two those fat dudes gave me, but I think I'll just keep using your lessons Uncle Ben. Happy Spooktober!
Greetings dear uncle Ben! Awesome instructions and videos. I've learned all the Opeth tutorials that you've made, and I can definitely tell that the way you teach 'em to play is the easiest way and also is the most righteous way to play those songs. I'm having a tutorial request if you may: Pleeeeeaaaaasssssseee make a tutorial on Opeth's Hours of Wealth! I'm making this request cuz there isn't any legit tab or video out here to find that out, though the song seems not to be so hard to play. and also I've seen some footages of Mikael playing it live, and it seems he plays it kinda different...idk tbh! I'm lost without your help basically!
I give a thumbs up to anyone honest enough to admit they'er in Rehab!
Gaston MacMillan the first step IS admitting you have a problem!
How can i be on rehab if i was never good?
Bois i learned to shred
Rehab is for quitters. Lol but Ben is one on the best teacher on RUclips
@@maffooo2040 yay
Uncle Ben's "rusty" is like me on my best day... dreaming I'm fifty times better than I really am.
Never been a day in my life I have not been able to really play (except broken fingers, vacations, etc). But yet I wake up everyday needing to play to make sure I can still do what I was doing the day before. Never been able to shake that feeling.
Ben is turning out to be the best teacher on RUclips
I don't know about you but after a significant time without playing guitar and then playing again, even when my technique got worse actually I find myself being more creative and I have a sense of freedom that translates in my improvisation and and writing.
Great video Ben. Thanks!
I hate moving. Always a hassle. I love the shred tips, though.
Nice. You are starting to make me think I've found the guy that can help me get where I want to get. This excercise makes so much sense! Nice...
Good God, your channel is a gold mine for everything guitar related! 🖤
Haven’t played guitar in 2 1/2 month because I was at boot camp this exercise works so much
Uncle Ben, you're legitimately the best guitar teacher on this platform. You have no clue how many times I've been stuck on something, watched one of your videos, and then started making some progress. Cheers for being a fuckin madlad
You said playing bass with Andy Timmons!!! Congrats man that's fucking awesome. He's a God damn Legend.
Zenremstate 22 thanks man, check out the Bohemian Rhapsody video I uploaded last week.
Glad you found them. :)

Fantastic. Thank you. Best way for syncing the hands.
Thanks Ben, I love your analytical approach, just the sort of hard reset I need to unlearn those bad habits. I hope the move goes smooth.
Interesting exercise, I look forward to trying it. Thanks for sharing!
First day of tour today and this is perfect, thank you.
You are our hero

THANK YOU SO MUCH UNCLE BEN!
You 're a GOOD teacher dude!
Such a great practical lesson Ben, thanks so much 💃🎶💃🎶
I also add some string skipping, like
6th/4th/5th/3rd/4th/2nd/3rd/1st and vice versa
Your a legend.
Cheers Mr Eller
Awesome video. Thanks again for your help
Thanks for this video. I've always struggled with 16th notes but this method seems like a way in for me.

As always smart and cool tips from the Ben dude.🌟
This is one of the most useful lessons I have seen - thanks!

I moved, built a new home, last year. I was such a pain! Worth my music room now...Backwoods Lair is my dream place! Good luck, hope it goes well!!
Cool approach! Thanks
Thank you uncle Ben

super helpful. hope all goes well with the move
Thanks Ben, will add this to my routine.
Kiko Loureiro has a great exercise for eliminating fretting hand finger pressure btw.
What’s it called?
@@malcolmrff The minimal effort exercise you should know about
i never thought about how going through these exercises without a little gain was masking my lack of muting. Thank you!
This was insightful. I'm going to start incorporating it into my practice. Thanks for being my groove car driving instructor, Ben! 😎
Exactly what I need right now

Nice! ps i like to practice 1-4-3-4-2-4 on each string for example also
You are the best friend thank you 👍
Right on man appreciate it.
Killer lesson, Ben! Like the different exercises you presented for both hands- my playing is already improving with this- serious thanks!

Sweet. Andy Wood is the best guitarist I've ever met IRL.
Amazing content! Practicing this ASAP!
Thank you Uncle!
I´m gonna try and mix this exercise with The Punisher to see how things go.
Playing bass for Andy Timmons.... omg OMG DUDE!!!
Thanks Pop, this is good stuff. My step dad had me using a potato.
Another great lesson 😊👍😊

I was half expecting that you got a haircut and suddenly couldn't shred!
Please start a theory class starting at the beginning and helping us out!
Almost like you knew what I needed help with. My man!
Brilliant. I've got 30 minutes spare before I go out and a new practice routine!!!!! Guitar time.....
Didn’t realise how poor my picking was coming back up the strings compared to going down the strings. Thanks Uncle Ben 👍🏼👍🏼
It helps! Great lesson

Legato! Dave Murray mode activated!
Finally getting out of your stepdad's house?
Awesome cover of Mike Tysons punchout in the intro!
Lol!
Fantastic!!
How he had to INTENTIONALLY play “bad” to illustrate bad muting technique
Awesome!
