Great shots of Hwy 99 (which was then called 499) with the old toll booths and street lights. The shot at 2:00 of the descent to Skaha Lake and OK Falls is significant in that it shows the old routing of Hwy 3. Prior to 1965, Hwy 3 ran north from Keremeos past Yellow Lake to Kaleden (now the Hwy 3A route), and then shared the roadway with Hwy 97 from Kaleden to Osoyoos. The present Hwy 3 route from Kaleden to Osoyoos via Richter Pass didn't exist as a highway until 1965 - prior to that, it has been a secondary road to the Nighthawk border crossing, and a rough back road through Richter Pass.
I learned to waterski on Osoyoos Lake in 1967, but I totally forgot about those white donuts that we strapped to our waists!! And yes my uncle made one of those boogie boards back then too😉 Thanks for the memories!!
CKOK??? Wow, my mom was the station manager many decades ago...(first female radio station manager in Canada).....thanks for the memories - takes me back
That's awesome, we'll I used to try sking at my uncles cabin on his lake, always face plant, never could get up so I gave up trying, I was 12, lol this is the same but i was in Nova Scotia Great video
I love seeing old videos like this my parents were in their mad youth I wasn’t born yet (71) and they frequented these areas camping just like in the video even had a boat they both were in love and life was so different then things really mattered back then and the govt was not feeding the public lies and propaganda! What happened? This was living and my car a 1963 chevy was brand new in kamloops sad are the days gone by and the lost values family had back then!
Exactly what happened ? When and where did anyone allow government to take over ? They are supposed to be our servants and do what we the public tell them to do!
I DRIVE BACK AND FORTH THRU THAT TUNNEL DAILY IN A COMMERCIAL TRANSPORT TRUCK .TUNNEL STILL LOOKS THE SAME ASIDE FROM FEW MODERN ADDITIONS..OTHERWISE THE SAME..TRAFFIC OBVIOUSLY FAR HEAVIER..I REMEMBER GOING TO A HOUSE PARTY IN LADNER WITH A BIG GROUP OF FRIENDS DURING HIGHSCHOOL..MISSING THE LAST BUS HOME TO RICHMOND..SO ABOUT 15 DRUNK TEENS HAD TO SNEAK OUR WAY TO THE TUNNEL..AND RUN THRU ITS LENGTH TO THE OTHER SIDE..RICHMOND..THAT WOULDVE BEEN 83 84..COULDNT DO THAT NOW..
Renaming Haynes point ,which is a white man-made feature😂.... with some indigenous name that nobody can pronounce is an absolute travesty. People aren't okay with this destruction of our culture😢
I TOTALLY dig the picnic stop. I love remembering those. Now I think back and think,"Those were the best."
So much fun to watch and see things how I remember them.

Really nice to see how "normal' life was
Completely different than this freak show society we live in now

It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one noticing; it often feels that way to me.
This is so very cool.
Phenomenol footage of the 499 through Richmond. Funny enough not much has changed along that route,
Reminds me of Sheridan Lake summer holidays in the 80s and 90s.
1963 was Peak, the absolute peak of Canada and also Western Civilization. it's been literally downhill since then.

Camped at Shady Lagoon many times. South, just before the U.S border
And JFK was still alive.
