Two things that help is oil on the wedge and always split from bottom of the log .The bottom of the log is base of the tree some one told me that and it always helps on tough logs 90% of the time
The piece of plywood that I used to stabilize the splitter failed under the weight of a 28 in. diameter green oak. I replaced it with a piece of angle iron which is more than sufficient.
Good idea ! You just ran a strap between the 2 controls right so one stops the other engages till it works looks like a nylon strap or tire tube bungy?
It's just a piece of flat nylon cord I had laying around. The two controls move simultaneously until the electrical actuator bottoms. Further movement is transmitted to the hydraulic control.
Buy a cheap foot peddle from e bay lock switch on , plug splitter in foot peddle . Like your table .take off rings ,ware hard shoes and safety glasses .Be careful where you put your free hand! I built a platform on my workmate. Love my 5 ton ,had it for about 3 years.
Plug the splitter into the foot peddle plug the peddle ( I use a short extension cord ) any 110 outlet .Get a good out door cord. Now take a look at the push button on switch . There is a kind of guard that guards the button , drill small hole in each one .i used a small finishing nail to hold the switch in Take care of your free hand ,watch where you have it at at all times. That's why they make it a two hand deal in the first place Five ton or Twenty ton will take your hand right OFF . Be safe and stay.warm There is no other warm like a wood fire wood stove , fireplace, or campfire.
Have one of these and i got to say.. one video shows exactly what i wanted to do to mine! On a bench, make it hands free.. AND so stupidly simple! (Compliment not insult)!! Guess i know what i doing today!
Phineas J. Whoopee i walked into garage, looked around.. grabbed 4 milk crates flipped em over... two and two. Looked in corner, hey my broken mechanic creeper there is table top! I did the on off button mod issuing a old lock hasp i had.. works like a dream! Thanks again for reminding me k.i.s.s. (keep it simple stupid)!
Yours is the best solution......not having the motor run continuously. Going to do that to mine, thanks a lot!
Nice fix that gives you the ability to hold the log while splitting if need be. Thanks for sharing.
Best explanation for a simple set up. Looked at so many , this is truly well done.
Thank you.
fantastic, thank you for sharing, we are searching for how to modify our log splitter to make one touch, this is brilliant help, thank you

I'll sure use it! I love SIMPLE! Bodacious thanks.
Simple but ingenious.
Having just bought an electric woodsplitter, i toyed with a few ideas to make it less 2 handed, but this is clever as fuck!
Why thank you.
Great job. I will try to set mine up
Phineas watched a lot of McGyver growing up.Good ol' American ingenuity
Nice job

Stupidly Simple Design! Now why didn't I think of that? Well done.
Brilliant!
brilliant. we'll be making one just like it. thanks
Awesome! Good job 👍
That's genius... thanks for sharing! Just wondering about the pedal placement. Do you prefer to stand behind the splitter, and not at the side?
Yes, I stand at the end of the splitter so I don't have to reach over it to get the next round out of the truck. YMMV

Phineas J. Whoopee - Hey thanks. That video helped me understand your set-up! I'm working on a diy stand right now.

Pat, can you show a photo or how you lock the switch on AND where do you plug in the pedal?

Stupidly simple is the objective. Thank you.

You're welcome. It's always gratifying to turn the crap you've been holding onto into something useful.
