This is a video of some of the mill work required to make my auto-retract threading tools. I've been very impressed with the performance of these inserts, both in the APKT/APMT and SEKT configurations.

A classic example of project creep. It started out so simple.

This is a test of the ability of the threading tool to resist chatter. The material is 1 in. diameter stainless steel pump shaft (grade unknown), threading 8 threads per inch. This is the coarsest thread which the tool and insert are capable of cutting.

Demo of my recently developed automatic retract threading tool. This tool uses standard 16ER-AG60 threading inserts which will cut from 8 to 48 threads per inch. It is triggered by a stop fixed to the lathe bed.

This time it's a female with cub. There was a trash bag with watermelon and canteloup rinds that had some holes in it, so despite the ammonia, the smell attracted this bear. She didn't spend a lot of time before moving on to easier pickings.

Since the Dixie fire in 2021, we've had a major uptick in problems with displaced bears. Being tired of picking up the mess, I started putting our trash in the back of a little used car until the morning of pickup. That worked well for 2 years, then not so much. Not wishing to suffer any further property damage, and finding that WM had nothing to offer, I decided to fortify my trash container. ...

It's been 9 years since I posted the first video about this splitter, so I decided it was time for an update. I purchased this splitter in 2010, I'm still very pleased with it. I see that Home Depot no longer carries the Homelite branded splitter, but they do have the Ryobi model, which is identical. Still $299 after all these years.
