- MILDRED PIERCE star beautiful ANN BLYTH lovingly reminisces about playing VEDA PIERCE, and working with the great JOAN CRAWFORD (who won the Oscar for her performance), EVE ARDEN, JACK CARSON, ZACHARY SCOTT, director MICHAEL CURTIZ. Interviewed by the "Czar of Noir " EDDIE MULLER at SF's legendary CASTRO THEATRE- the event, produced by SF impressario Marc Huestis in July 2006, attracted 1000 fans of the movie & the star. Academy Award ® Nominee Blyth (for her role in "Mildred Pierce") shares tidbits of information on the classic (for example SHIRLEY TEMPLE tested for the role of VEDA) and provides more than a touch of class in offering a glimpse into the Golden Age of Hollywood. Special surprise at the end!
She was great as Veda! Unforgettable!
She's one who aged extremely well. And she still has that beautiful smile. She's done great work in her career, but I'm sure she's most proud of her five children.
Ken Owens
So, the most important things in women in your mind are appearance and having children.
Stone age thinking.
But the truth. Look at women now scrambling to get pregnant via artificial means and preserving their looks via plastic surgery after they passed their shelf life. You can’t deny biology.
@@PungiFungi Stop it. You wouldn't judge men this way. Keep your woman-hatred to yourself.
Women of course are never allowed to age. Do you know how horrible and insulting this sounds? This was recorded back in 2006. I doubt she looks like this now at 91.
@@ValleyoftheRogue assumption on your part and when have pointing out biological truths “women hating”? Yup, just toss the misogyny label and that supposedly proves you are right. Typical SJW.
Dear Lord is she a class act
I took my daughter there to the Castro see this, and she loved it. There is no better experience than seeing an old movie on a large screen with a crowd of glorious gays in San Francisco (I'm one!).
No one could have played Mildred besides Joan, she was Mildred.... And Veda, wel,l Ann Blyth was simply amazing in this classic, extraordinary film....
Vicki Lawrence is a great VEDA
I liked Carol Burnett's parody Mildred Fierce as well. And seeing as Mommie Dearest was clearly a comedy, she would have been much better for the role than Faye Dunaway was. She (Carol) looked more like Joan than Faye did. ;)
Unfortunately Joan was Mildred in real life, treating her own children so very very awful. Truly vile and evil woman that Joan Crawford. Mentally ill for sure.
Dear Miss Blythe,
Your intelligence, talent, and honesty can barely be matched today.
Ann Blyth was so good in Mildred Pierce...She delivered very well after the fact it was her 5th film only and she was 17 we ca say she is one of the best and I am Happy that she still alive today.....Have a long life Ann Xxxx
Ann Blyth is a treasure of the Golden Era of Hollywood... The sad truth is that so few of those stars are still with us. MGM really knew how to cultivate movie stars that the general public could put on a pedestal, and I think Ms. Blyth is a total testament to that. She carries herself with utter grace and poise and knows all the most perfect things to say through this interview, and obviously her remarkable talent is no less diminished (not to mention she looks like a million bucks on that stage). It's true what they say: they just don't make 'em like they used to.
yes it's a shame that so much time has passed and these kind of interviews have only become a thing in the last 10 or 15 years. Curtiz, what a great director
Such a beautiful, gracious lady. This kind of class is sorely missed today.
What a lovely, gracious lady Ann Blyth seems to be. A lot of Hollywood celebrities could learn from her on how to conduct themselves.
If I were asked to give the definition of a true lady, I would say Ann Blyth. Gracious and beautiful.
Down to Earth, gracious, classy, and beautiful on the inside and outside. Way to go Ann.
A beautiful lady. A faithful Catholic, mother of 5 children, opera singer, actress, married to the SAME husband for 60 years...
A model of elegance for any young woman today. God Bless her.
Her brother in law was Irish crooner Dennis Day.
Mildred pierce is my number one fave movie.
Anne Blyth Joan Crawford and the rest of the actor's in this film are fascinating and fantastic
Thank you for posting this interview. So good to see Ann Blyth looking so beautiful. Who else out there has that kind of deportment and class without showing the least sign of arrogance and snobbishness? The new generations should take lessons with Miss Blyth.
Blyth looks sensational here!
I love that she didn't fall for the bait when he was trying to trudge up dirt. It's often easier to trash talk someone instead of sticking up for them despite popular belief.
She’s a class act
Mildred Pierce is my second all time favorite movie. Such drama!! So nice to see Ann Blyth...what a lovely woman.
+suki44883 Please tell us! What is your first favorite movie?
pyccoye and talent
I have seen the movie 650 times....watching every morning for three years!!!!!!
@@carlgagnon3103 Wow! That's amazing Carl! :D
What’s your first?
I lover her! Mildred Pierce is one of my all time favorites!!
Oh my Gosh.... She sure aged well! She's gorgeous & a class act.
Ann Blythe has that same star quality that Joan Had. She speaks like a star and looks incredible. No one has that sense of decorum and elegance anymore.
Amazing and this was 10 years ago. She's alive still at 92. Last of our Hollywood Icons.
OMG!!! you can still see little Veda on her face!!! Amazing lady!!!
She blew me away at the end! Such a lovely, gracious woman! She reminds me a bit of Kathryn Leigh Scott! Such a treasure!
I adore Ms. Scott as well! I admired her greatly from 1960s Dark Shadows.
that voice is stunning not only in general but also for her age
Wow, beauty, poise and talent. THIS is how it's done Hollywood!
Miss Blyth is a joy to listen to. She's like the daughter Joan deserved to have had in real life. She's just as beautiful and classy as Joan.
What a wonderful woman. A true star in every way. God bless her.
One of the great moments of my life was shaking hands with Ms. Blyth after her performance in "Kismet" back in 1967. She was so gracious and had blue eyes that left me speechless. Truly a great lady.
Now that's how an interview is done...allowing the guest to answer the questions without interrupting. This was fun and informative. Much praise to Eddie Muller, who did the interview!....Ann was so gracious here and the epitome of class! Not to mention how beautiful she is. Her daughter sure got that from her Mom. Ann just turned 92 on August 16, 2020 and I hope she is doing well....One thing I wish they had time to ask Ann about, is if she had seen Carol Burnett's hilarious spoof of "Mildred Pierce" that they did on her show....it was called "Mildred Fierce"...lol. Anyway, Carol was great as Mildred and Vicki Lawrence was awesome as Veda...plus, Harvey Korman did an uncanny Monte (Zachary Scott)....I remember reading that Joan Crawford had called Carol and said how much she loved the spoof they had done. I believe that show aired in 1976, just after another famous take they did of "Gone With The Wind"...called "Went With The Wind". Funny stuff! :D ....Here is the link to Carol's "Mildred Fierce"... ruclips.net/video/fLfSiKI3DsM/видео.html
Kids, they sure keep you hopping. . .
@@fkd1963 LOL ...that was a hilarious line!🤣
What a stunner, eternally young. A real movie queen.
I am watching this and hoping Ann had a great life. She was so lovely on the screen. Talented through and through. We were speaking about Joan tonight and then we remembered her incredible performance. All the best to the beautiful Ann B. So lovely.
This is what aging gracefully is all about! My God that movie was over 70 years ago. She looks stunning ❤️
That opening scene when Veda slaps Mildred and Mildred falls back in shock. Well, notice when Mildred stands back up that somehow she seems to be towering over Veda in righteous indignation? She isn't any taller than she was before, not really; but Joan Crawford by pure will made herself tower over Veda and she was on fire.
Agree!
The thing about showing this alone is that it's the climax of the longer scene with all the build-up to the scene on the staircase and is really more powerful when seen in full.
She is a class act and has done some wonderful films with Tyrone Powers on several occasions.
What a gracious, elegant LADY!! These were REAL STARS
What a sweet, classy lady! This was great to watch!
So glad Marc recorded this…I was there that evening with my dear partner who introduced me to this great film…I miss Marc, the wonderful shows at The Castro, and my partner…we were together 34 years.
She looks fantastic.
God it’s amazing to see Ann! So talented and fun! After all those years! She was fantastic! The movie is so amazing! She really had chemistry with Joan! How interesting to see an interview with this great, lovely woman ❤️she is obviously a guest of honor, I would have loooooved to be there! 👏🏼 very delightful! Thank you for the upload!
Legend. She looks beautiful.
I googled her on Wikipedia, and it states that she's 86 years old now. This interview was from 2006, and I was flabbergasted to learn this, because that would put her at age 77 at the time of this interview. Still very youthful, beautiful, and gracious.
I thought she deserved an Oscar for her brilliant performance as vida. I can't believe in this interview she was 77. a beautiful woman.
Veda.
Now she’s 93
Oh my goodness: now that’s a healthy voice with beautiful vocal technique. Amazing. 😱
Ms.Blyth is a first class lady! Thank you, for sharing.
I would say above first class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ann Blyth looking fierce and she is pure class
this was a wonderful event ..i am truly all smiles to see true Hollywood here as this legend is honored for her tribute to such a classic movie as Mildred Pierce...they sure dont make them like this anymore...todays actors should pay close attention to the pioneers of classic Hollywood. Stars such as Joan Crawford and Ann Blyth were true Stars and professionals in today what has become a thing of the past seemingly..
What a lovely lovely review. She was so gracious and showed a lot of class. Thank you for uploading this.
OMG - She looks exactly the same! Lovely lady with a great sense of humour. It's a great movie, going to have to watch it again now!
I never believed one word out of Cristina Crawford mouth. Joan was professional and a good human being
Great interview! 2023, she is still alive, age 94..
What a gracious lady. She was so kind and seemed to be having such a wonderful time with all those Castro Queens - and man could she sing.
Ann Blyth! A gorgeous talented legend💕
That was wonderful!
I was fortunate to meet Ann Blyth through her daughter Eileen. She was just a lovely as here in this video. I complimented her on one of my favorite films that she stars in, THE STUDENT PRINCE.
Still LOVELY...still BEAUTIFUL..
.so classy...and was wonderful in MILDRED PIERCE
It would be great to see a real Movie Star like Ann Blyth be invited to present an award at the Oscars!!
She is a true movie star 🙌🏻 I did have fun passing out Hostess products to my our sons. They never understood the “ I’m Anne Blyth for Hostess” remarks....
She's a class act, just like Crawford. Joan Crawford is my favorite actress from the "Golden Years."
Mildred Pierce is one of my favorite films of all time!
just saw this movie and had to find out more about her. So pleasantly surprised
Wow!! What an extremely gracious and kind lady. I doubt this majestic lady has ever spoken ill of anyone. What a classy woman.
ANN BLYTH . is so such beautiful sophisticated Lady. Now too - she is now 93, wow - looking great now too. Her Daughters and Son can be proud of these such famous sophistticated Mother. She is more as Mother, Lady she is Goddess of the World. Greetings from Germany to San Diego to her
Absolutely gorgeous! Gorgeous to look at, and glorious lyric soprano voice! Wow!
wow-what a lovely lady!
Ann Blythe is SO beautiful!💕
Ann Blyth is still beautiful, same beautiful smile!
I lived in San Francisco for a short time in 1999, and I wish I had gone to one of these showings at the Castro Theater. There is nothing so entertaining than seeing a great Hollywood classic with a full gay audience. If you haven't had the pleasure, do so. You will never forget it. I wish we had something like this in Greenwich Village in NYC. What a great city San Francisco is. I have never forgotten my time there. What an elegant kind woman Miss Ann Blyth is. God bless her.❤
pure legend
OMG! She has pipes!
Still beautiful!
Wow. So beautiful still.
Thank you for posting it!
Loved her work in Mildred Pierce, Another Part of the Forest and The Helen Morgan Story.
She and Joan Crawford were a real tour de force in that movie
Magnificent to see her and hear all her knowledge
Still can sing like an angel! ❤
Beautiful lady.
I could feel the love in room ❤
I absolutely love the movie
What a lovely lady!
Wow ! Great interview, thank you ! I love the way she talks about how "everyone has a dark side" (with apologies to Kelly Clarkson), and how she was able to tap into that ugly place for her performance , let it go "and not hurt anybody....that's the best!" How true ! Oh that we all might find a healthy outlet to release our pain, to avoid inflicting it on others.
Elegant and gracious lady and great actress
What a delightful person!
Oh I love her so! Who remembers her also in the hostess commercials saying... hello I'm Ann Blyth for hostess
I am 73 and have been a loyal fan since I was 11.....Love you Ann.....My wife accepts that also......Thank You for all the joy and memories.....Bless you and my God keep you happy, healthy and under his wing for many many more years
7:23 - She had the perfect voice to say "God Damn". I was bummed that she abbreviated it.
I don't think she got the impression that the interviewer and the audience wanted her to tell all the Joan Crawford stories she had to tell!
The queens love it to this day
What a classy lady...and a real beauty inside and out.
ROFL @ all the queens cheering in the background of the best scene in the movie.
We miss you Joan Crawford
What an excellent cast this movie had
Liked to hear about Eve Arden and Zachary Scott ;)
Jack Carson also seemed like such a nice guy.
What a great lady. Pity she didn’t win the Oscar.
I love the passion of the audience.
She is an absolute delight! The movies should have continued to use her in good drama and melodrama rather than the silky corn she was often cast in. So wonderfully articulate and quick-witted.
Thank God for you tube
Just like Joan if you write her she writes back!!!!!
Lovely lady and looks great.
What a class act! I love Ann!! :)
The most beautiful actress to come out of hollywood
The moderator wanted so bad to get Ann to bash Joan and talk ugly about the crew. Ann had too much CLASS for him!
He also apparently didn't know that Ann admired and respected Joan.
@@fliplinefungusEven though she told him more than once.
“Any time you play any kind of a part, you are learning something about your craft, no matter what the part is.” ✅. Brava! Magnificent voice, and made so many of the films that preserved for history the great operettas that are so rarely performed now.
