Azerbaijan is not much afraid of Russia militarily, especially now, and also because they have Turkey’s military support if things go that way. Missiles don't actually hit a plane directly, they have a proximity fuse which makes them detonate when they are near the target and the explosion of the missile sends hundreds of tiny pieces of shrapnel towards the target. If the shrapnel hits the fuel tank or engines the plane can catch fire or start smoking, but a passenger plane is huge and it doesn't have "flammable" components everywhere. So the missile didn't literally "hit" the plane, it exploded near the tail of the plane and then the shrapnel damaged the hydraulic system.
As a whole, I find DW to be a very tepid news station. Stories are presented as if the audience is 5 years old with no knowledge of anything. Doesn't everybody know in this day and age what flight data recorders are? These pundits give out information as if they have some unique revelation in knowledge. What exactly does DW actually contribute towards advancing a narrative and introducing pertinent behind the scenes information with kindergarten grade presentations like this? The Embraer 90 is about the same size as a Boeing 737 it's not a small plane. It's also larger than the B17s used in WW2, many of which flew a long way after taking extensive damage. It is rare, but not impossible for a plane to take damage like that and keep flying. A lot depends on the type of warhead and where it was in relation to the plane when it exploded. If most of the shrapnel hit the tail rather than engines, fuel tanks or cockpit, then the plane can remain airborne for quite some time.

I copied one those pictures to my desk top and enlarged it no holes from shrapnel just crush damage. And those supposed holes in the tail that show entry wounds don`t show exit wounds bit strange. The Korean airline 007 was not mistaken by the Russian fighter plane. He knew it was a passenger plane and still fired on it get your facts straight.

Tell that to all the crews whose planes were hit by missiles and did NOT explode immediately. E.g. the DHL Airbus that was hit by a missile over Baghdad, and managed to land with no fatalities. The plane was wrecked, but they got it on the ground. Stop pulling nonsense out of your rear body cavity.

Troll. Aktau is closer to Grozny than Baku is, and there are no mountains to fly over to get to Aktau. That's an important consideration for a plane that lost pressure and can't fly above 10,000ft.
The pilot wanted to land in Russia after being hit but the Russian authorities refused and forced him to fly over the sea.

Why are there no shrapnel holes in these two pictures of the fuselage but suddenly they appear on subsequent pics. I copied one those pictures to my desk top and enlarged it no holes from shrapnel just crush damage. And those supposed holes in the tail that show entry wounds don`t show exit wounds bit strange. Just saying
