Just to be clear, it is not the public that elects the US President. That would be the Electoral College (which should be abolished). Even Though Trump DID receive more of the popular vote (the first Republican in 30 years) this is really due to the failed educational system in the US that actively discourages kids to think for themselves (the educational system here is funded based on only two things: attendance and test scores - how do you make sure test scores are high? By teaching the kids to MEMORIZE information and data, NOT learning how to derive it or research it). This produces an enormous population the has incredibly strong opinions about nearly everything without knowing (supported by actual facts and evidence), or being able to think through anything (in this specific case - the US Government).
The answer to the question of this video, "Why would you pick a fight with a neighbor who's one of your biggest trading partners?" The real answer is: Mental Illness. His Niece (Mary Trump - check out her YT channel) is a licensed Psychologist that explains much of DJT's background, mentality, and behavior.

I hope Canada uses this moment to create a free trade zone within Canada. This would expedite the process of building east/west infrastructure, like pipelines and ports to Europe and Asia. If Canada can ship LNG and refined products at scale (1 or 2 million bpd each to EU and Asia) it will remove much of the leverage America currently has over Canada.

The Canadian Free Trade Agreement was signed July 1, 2017. This Liberal government also signed another 2 free trade agreements that did not include the USA. And this government has increased trade with the EU by 46%. All of this after seeing the writing on the wall in 2016. Unfortunately we now have a populist clown who can only repeat 'axe the tax'. And the problem is, when you remove the carbon tax, those trading partners just slap our exports with 'carbon tariffs'. You couldn't pick a worse time to roll out a horrible policy. And I'm afraid the Canadian population might be as lazy as the American population (90 million not voting).

We are happy to trade with the US, we are even happy to be friends with the US, but that doesn't mean that we want to be Americans. We are happy being Canadians. And we will fight to preserve that.

America has changed and unfortunately not for the better. We are generally polite and low key. Trump has ignited a new level patriotic nationalism. We do need to invest more heavily in our military NATO obligations. Canada has historically punched above our weight in military conflicts especially during both world wars. We suffered more deaths on a per capita basis in Afghanistan than any other participant. Trump is a narcissist bully and we will stand up to him . Canada has some vital raw materials that our critical to their day to day living. Trump is a Liar. If 🇨🇦Canada was smart it would consider joining the emerging BRICS economies which include China, Russia, India and UAE which is going off the USD.. As it stands now Canada sells 98% of its LNG and 60% of its Natural Resources to the USA for very low prices. The idea that the United States “subsidizes” Canada to the tune of $200 billion annually is an erroneous interpretation of the economic and energy relationship between the two nations. This claim lacks the analytical rigor necessary to withstand scrutiny when we consider the facts. First, Canada is a critical supplier of energy to the U.S., providing a substantial portion of its crude oil and natural gas needs. Approximately 60% of U.S. crude oil imports come from Canada, most notably from Alberta's oil sands, a resource that represents a significant part of Canada's energy production CANADA ENERGY REGULATOR . The United States also imports 98% of Canada’s natural gas, an essential resource that powers homes and industries across the U.S. during the colder months EIA . This energy exchange is a matter of mutual necessity, not a one-sided dependency. The term "subsidy" implies one party is providing financial support to the other. In this context, it is crucial to distinguish between a trade relationship and a financial aid arrangement. The energy Canada provides is not given as a charity or a handout; it is sold at market prices, reflecting the value of the resources being exchanged. The United States, in return, exports over $300 billion in goods to Canada annually, including vehicles, machinery, and technology EIA . This reciprocal trade benefits both economies and underpins millions of jobs on both sides of the border. Furthermore, Canada’s defense contributions are often undervalued in discussions like these. Canada is not merely a passive recipient of American protection; the two countries cooperate through NORAD and share responsibility for the defense of North America. Canada’s military, though smaller than that of the U.S., plays an active role in peacekeeping and global security efforts. The assumption that Canada “freeloads” on the U.S. military is therefore logically flawed and ignores decades of joint action. In sum, this claim of a "$200 billion subsidy" does not withstand scrutiny when examined through the lens of facts. Canada’s role as a supplier of essential resources to the U.S. is a mutual exchange, one that supports both economies. Similarly, the defense partnership is based on shared responsibility, not a hierarchical arrangement where one side is a mere recipient of the other’s generosity. Thus, it is neither logical nor accurate to claim that the U.S. is subsidizing Canada in the manner implied by such statements. Instead, the reality is a balanced interdependence, rooted in economic and security cooperation. 🇨🇦

It is Donald Trump and the MAGA/Republican Party who are sowing chaos and making absurd threats against our allies. Hopefully, nothing will come of Trump's nonsensical threats. Perhaps right now the US military style or arming up isn't the way to go at all. Seems to me like they might have a lot of expensive Paperweights on their hands now though. Absolutely but we as a nation have chosen to put people first which America just doesn't do which creates 2 radically different systems, we have never in our history asked for U.S. defense even though that's a popular myth in Washington DC , the only country that has ever attacked us is America much like today and we fought them off (several times) America needs to remember that allies are a force multiplier and as such a great thing to have , should the trump administration fail to see that ,Canada can easily pivot completely to asia pacific and EU trading partners......

America has always liked the fact that the northern nation above them was not a super militaristic world power sharing the continent with them. Even in the 60's America convinced the PM to not develop long range air craft and instead buy long range missile systems from them. Pushing Canada with threats to buy more equipment from the US is bad policy for Canada. It would make it far easier and more equal if the manufacturing of these weapons could be done by Canadians. We will bankrupt ourselves if were are required to buy with out the infrastructure and economic benefits of building up military capability for ourselves. Trump wants to extort Canada and pressure them to fatten up the USA's military industrial complex instead of building an ally with it's own capability. That is were we are , we won't be extorted by Trump or any other world leader.

General Hodges … I very much appreciate your support of Ukraine but with all due respect … to suggest that there is a case for Canada becoming a US State is just plain wrong. Canada will reach the 2% GDP target but we shouldn’t loose sight of the fact that in dollar terms, Canada is still one of the top contributors to the NATO alliance. From Korea to Kandahar, Canadian soldiers have fought and died, shoulder to shoulder with our American brothers in arms in the defence of freedom. Canada punches above its weight and is no laggard militarily. In the arctic, America should accept the obvious … the Northwest Passage is in Canadian territorial waters and they should recognize this fact. As to the US border, you probably know that Canada has very strict gun control laws yet illegal weapons flow north across the border. Canadians want no part of the US gun cult … stop sending us assault weapons. They have no place in a civil society. I hope America rights the ship before it’s too late but alas, the immediate future seems bleak. Again, thank you for your candid and helpful insight’s into Russia’s illegal war of aggression.

I like everything the General said except about Canada's investment in defense. USA always seems to think we should be fielding a military presence similar to theirs. How would this even be possible with one tenth the population they have and similarly smaller economy. We also have the same problem getting the public to join the armed forces.
The General seem to suggest the USA protects Canada. In what way? We significantly support NORAD which can only be interpreted as we help protect USA. Not Canada. Just get out a Globe of the Earth and see where the USA/RUSSIA missiles fly. Over Canada. All the Great Circle routes from USA to RUSSIA go over CANADA! If RUSSIA/USA could shoot down nuclear missiles, where would they land? CANADA! How is that protecting CANADA?
Let's not forget that while CANADA entered two World Wars to help Britain, the USA was years late doing so.
Let's not forget that CANADA supported the USA in Korea, Gulf War and after 911 in Afghanistan.
We have shed more blood and treasure (per capita) defending and supporting the USA than they have directly for CANADA.
For being such a good and protective layer against USA's enemies we are now being threatened with words of Economic War and Annexation.
I hope the World will see USA's weakness and bring Armageddon to them. We may also die but the burn will be so delightful.

I hope Canada will take this opportunity to improve their relations with China and built a real economical partnership based on respect and honesty. I would start by removing tariffs on Chinese cars to show them goodwill and because they are a lot better than musk lemons.

If Trump puts the 25% tariff on for very long, it will destroy the Canadian auto industry then there will be no reason for tariffs on Chinese cars.

@ Reality. China is the largest manufacturer in the world. They are also a major consumer of food and other products Canada produces. This will be the second time in 10 years that the US has broken a trade treaty with Canada. The US is not a reliable trading partner. Will they always be our largest trading partner? Yes. Can we depend on them not to abuse that fact? No. Canada needs to trade with Europe from our east coast and Asia from our west coast.

The USA is pis sed off with Europe and Germany at the latest, as a lot of trade is conducted in euros instead of dollars! If the dollar were totally replaced as the main trading currency, the USA would be totally finished, due to its immense foreign debt.

if you think the euro is more stable than the dollar, I'm sure it will prove very interesting when Russia invades Poland and see what the euro can do while the Trumps America will sit back and watch what European unity can be without the US 'interfering' .

Didn't like Ben Hodges saying that the UK's exit from the EU weakened NATO. That was a ridiculous statement and was more indicative of his political leanings as a Democrat. The UK leaving Europe was the most democratic thing the UK has done since the suffragettes won women the vote. And how is it possible to weaken an alliance built on democratic principles if a country exercises its democratic right. Other than that, I think he's a fine man.
