Except all was not lost, not yet anyway. If she first sent out Makuhita and did the Fake-out, then switched to the dark type, it dies, go back to Makuhita do a second Fake-out and Tediursa is dead
I almost got destroyed by Katy too but I did a soft reset and redid it again by using that Flying-tera Pikachu. It worked like a charm… All the gym leaders after her, though, wasn’t actually that hard.
So, not gonna lie, I didn’t know how Fury Cutter works. That is a scary thing if you don:t see it coming. I had journeyed counter clockwise starting on the right side so this was one of the last gyms I went to…
I went to them all out of order. Not left to right, and not right to left. I just kind of wandered around and challenged whichever ones I somehow stumbled across.
Pokemon is generally too fast paced for it to build up sufficiently. Realistically, without a level advantage, you shouldn't be tanking more than a couple raw hits from your opponent safely. And if you're in that position, you probably don't need a move that rises in power to win. It's good for very, very niche scenarios in challenge runs, though an actual setup move would be far more efficient
Funnily enough I got caught off-guard here as well. Felt a bit silly to be swept by Fury Cutter like 5 year old me playing Pokemon Gold for the first time.
How unfortunate... the rain halved her Fuecoco's Fire moves' power, which her power got nerfed when it is not necessary! ...Maybe a Flying type or a Rock type could also help?
something annoying about Scarlet and Violet's weather system.. If you have a pokemon that either changes weather by switching in, (like Tyranitar.) or by using a move (like rain dance.) it could for whatever reason just fail. Even if there isn't any weather effects currently active. I've even had weather effects not work during Arven's battle for no reason at all.
XD that is some luck! Not only it was raining but Tediursa seem to have good enough Sp Def to not die from multiple incinerates and thus able to increase Fury cutter. I do not think there will be so many players out there that had such luck. 1. The rain, and having your main ace for that gym to be fire type. 2. It's an open world, for example, my first gym was the grass gym which was Lv. 20, but I had a clodsire by then....so....it was not an easy gym but not hard either. It was mostly because I had only one lv 20 pokemon by the first gym that was above 20 and it was the only one with advantage typing. Some people have even made the water gym their first gym. 3. Not many people would make fury cutter rise by that much. Kanata has such great luck that she fulfills all the requirements for Katy one of the easiest gyms ever to kick your butt no questions asked. I am actually amazed by the luck skill of Kanata, that is an actual talent.
@@Flare790 Hmmm, I forgot what exact number I did it with, but I think it was my fifth gym. It was a very sunny day when I beat Katy. Maybe it did not trigger for me?
That's why when planning to take on a Bug-type gym, you should include at least one Flying-type in your team. That way, you have a backup plan in case the weather changes to rain.
@@Noobzlikeu True but at the same time, when was rain in a pokemon game a natural game phase through day cycles that can affect multiple areas? Especially you would not think the first gym would use rain dance in a bug gym.
Issokay, I lost the first gym here too. My Charcadet got an unlucky 5 hits from it's Fury Swipes, from there it was just sweeps against my Sprigatito, Ralts with it's Fury Cutter 🙃
So fun thing you can do in, say, Pokémon ORAS. Get a Ninjask, get a Metronome item, get a Substitute Pokémon with Double Team/Minimise and Baton Pass then set up for Ninjask during the main game and watch a tiny little critter tear through every Pokemon in the game. Not even one Swords Dance required cuz the Metronome and Fury Cutter stack.

This, ladies and gents, is the Bugsy Experience (tm). Once that Fury Cutter is powered up, it's straight GGs. Johto was a very traumatic experience for a first time pokemon player is all I'm saying.
Indeed, I feel like people understate how difficult Bugsy was quite a bit (or I just sucked back then, but a freaking Scyther? In the 2nd gym? A Geodude can wall it, but that's about it, and a beginner wouldn't know that) Although I feel while the first part of Johto can definitely be traumatic, once you're through the 4th gym, and the game kinda lets you go where you want, the level curve kinda turns that around and makes it a breeze... until you have to face Clair eventually, who you have to face with nothing super effective.
At first I thought "Oh rain, so the actual games took a page out of fangame books on making the bug gym more challenging" but the other comments make it seem random. Can't believe I gave Gamefreak some credit, even if it was credit for plagiarizing.
It definitely is. But the main issue was her extremely bad luck with the rain coming in (halves damage of all Fire moves), and not having a contingency plan in case things went south.
