This move hurt the target physically, but it hurt the user psychologically.
This looks like the work of a... stressful situation due to the agonizing progress of society and how it imposed its capitalist way of grinding down the humans to the minimal extension of their full potential...
and hurts the opposing trainer emotionally
Emotional Damage!?
So it is always a very effective move?

I love how collectively everyone agrees Larry is basically the best character because of how real he is
I wanted to open up a can of UFC grade whoop-ass in Larry. Not on his pokemon, but on Larry himself.
It was inevitable since he stands out so much specially on a Gen that has Iono
So of course both became the most popular followed by the Rapper Grandma
I still love the Isekai joke with him.
Exactly!
And because literally every character sucks major ass
The sudden realization Korone got when she pointed out the other gym leaders have second jobs, a patsierr, a cook, a streamer, it all came down at once.
Well, in my eyes, it's just a natural extension of how this game explains the gym challenges.
Firstly, instead of trainers starting at a specific age like in the earlier generations, gym challenges are usually brought up after a certain amount of time at the school. This means that gym leaders don't have to consider the random kid that just had their birthday and thus don't need to fully focus on their gym trainer schedule.
This also leads into the fact that being a gym leader/ battling with pokemon isn't as major a thing in Paldea compared to other regions, being a theoretical pathway in life rather than the dream of pretty much every kid. So the people who do end up as gym leaders often have other passions that they pursue in their off seasons/time off from gym leadering (aside from Larry being a... special case).
@@happymagician1699 Kiawe was fired from his part time job in Ultra Sun & Moon. I think it has more to do with the fact that after every battle they lose they get mugged.
@@happymagician1699wait Gym Leaders in other regions don't need second jobs? Someone needs to tell Roark, he's blackening his lungs for no reason.
Even in other regions they have other jobs, in gen 1 Most gym leaders had a side job, I think the exception was maybe Brook. But Blaine was a scientist, Misty Made aquatic performance, Sabrina was a fortune Teller, Kouga was a Ninja instructor, Geovanni was a Mobster and so on...
@@ollievirus6695 We also have 3 Chefs cook, a teacher, a fasionista model, a rock singer in GEN 5, even Professional Golf in GEN7.
I think the impression of Gen 8 Sword and Shield's GYM system treat it as main sport event full time. And GEN 7 treat it as traditional Island challenge. Player forgot that GYM leader also side jobs.
Also, some lore in GEN9 state that Geeta kinda worked the GYM Leaders and Elite Fours a bit too hard to the point everyone hate her. I think that the League in GEN9 didn't pay well.
No wonder the move works better when you have a status ailment. When you’re in serious pain, the brave face you put on has to be even stronger to compensate.
The true "This is fine." move. 😭
Bro people really do not know what facade means huh? Like the english version makes just as much sense its just not a mouthful.
@@kayden2119 Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it. I know some English-speaking streamers go "I don't get it" when Larry used Facade lol
That is just classic streamers being stupid though. @@cainyourkids
@@kayden2119
I would disagree. A facade is much simpler than からげんき in meaning, and can be used to mean any sort of false pretense or appearance, so I assumed they weren’t really that weakened by the move but pretended they were to get the jump on the opponent.
It’s also that a facade isn’t really how people in the west would describe themselves, since a facade is closer to being fake than putting on a brave face.
Pokemon Company: "Hey kids, look forward to adulthood, you'll never feel joy again!"
Lol.
It’s entirely perspective.
Me? Every day I show up at work is a brand new adventure. Or a day to goof off. Sometimes both! I’ll be goofing off and the day rapidly changes into a savage mode raid where the boss enemy appears and we all have to work together and use our special skills to vanquish the boss problem before the timer runs out and the company misses a sale.
Or you could get bored and only excited by the prospect of the weekend. Every Monday is torture because you have 4 whole days of work ahead of you.
I’d rather have fun. And if it’s all perspective then it’s entirely my choice whether I have fun or am exhausted by work.
@@Mathignihilcehkhahaha i happy for you have a fun job buy dude, its not about perspective. The stress, overload work and so much example, this all are real thing that why there a lot job that make adult miserable and yes we hope that this can be fix.
edit: there are reason why japan has word that specifically mean die from overwork. its not japan only many job in this world like that but i happy for you and i hope you always have nice day
@@hatootranslator4134 Stress is 100% perspective. You cannot get stressed about something you do not care about. You CAN get stressed about something you shouldn't care about.
For example, if your job is to drive packages from point A to point B, all you have to worry about is that you spend your time at work driving packages from point A to point B. The company may want you to meet random metrics, etc. And that may help the company's bottom line. But that's for the company to worry about, not you. You do the things that are in your control, and if the company doesn't get what they want, that's a damn shame. Let the company worry about making money.
If the company is actually likely to fire you because you didn't get emotionally upset, despite doing everything in your job description, then you shouldn't be working there. Very few companies actively want stressed employees... those specifically negatively impact the company's bottom line. In multiple ways. They may be unwilling to put in any effort to reduce stress, but actively firing employees for their emotional response is frankly insane.
The only employee at a company who should give a damn about the company's success is the owner. Everyone else is just doing a job. Focus on doing the job well. Nothing more.
If you own stock or earn considerable performance-based bonuses, then yeah, you can care about that. But frankly, I'd still never worry about something outside your control.

1:51 This series of events lol. Will-o-wisp, which powered up Facade, and then terrastalizing, letting Ceruledge get hit.

Yup. I paused and commented on every. Single. One of those mistakes...
We've known since gen 3: don't status normal-type users.

2:28 - The accidentally perfect comedic timing of "Oh, I thought it was gonna be Endure- AAAH I'M THE ONE WHO ENDURED!"
Also suggesting Endure as the dark humor move, great idea!
There's a reason that people, both inside and outside of Japan, relate so profoundly to Larry (Aoki). The core fanbase of Pokemon has been slowly trending older as those of use who have been playing since the beginning age and fewer new fans join on the younger end.
Gen 5 was a lot more serious than people want to admit. Pokémon slow has been adding more serious characters since then.
@@zerotodona1495People are too busy telling you Pokemon is still for children or how Generation 5 sucks to bother understanding, but yea I agree.

Me, who knows how hard this throw is:
Music: *happy jolly music*
Larry: "i hate my life"
Who would have thought the way to break through the special technique of the working adult was proper sleep and spending time with friends? XD
If Larry's like this while depressed and working 3 jobs, I can only imagine what his midlife crisis would be like.
Forming an actual villain team as its boss and trying to pull a Cyrus.
With how much he's working he may already be in his mid-life crisis... or it might've already passed
Maybe he's too busy to have a mid life crisis
He's gone through his midlife crisis, and is in the middle of his midlife catastrophe.
Midlife crisis' are expensive, do you know how many overtime hours he'll have to work to pay for one? Tch.
Of course, Shuba would be the most upset at that😂
I imagine Larry japanese VA being Tsuda Kenjiro, just because he has a nice low and constant tone to his voice that fit Larry very well
And unlike most of his other roles who are Darwinistic Pleb-Destroyers (or Elitists) that feel like only one person is worth their time in their profession of pride lol
"ALL OF YOU ARE PLEBS THAT MUST BE CLEANSED FROM THIS WORLD! THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON WORTHY OF EVEN BEING MY RIVAL IN THIS PROFESSION THAT I CONSIDER AS THE TRUTH OF THIS WORLD!"
Edit: Befitting this is that one of Kenjirou Tsuda's actual Pokemon roles was the Pokemon Masters adaptation of Cyrus.
dudes voice came to my mind immediatly when Larry was introduced. He has the ultimate "depressed office worker" voice
Larry reminds me a lot of Nanami from JJK (voiced by Tsuda)
@@kira-inthehood648 I mean, Tsuda actually voiced the Masters version of Cyrus/Akagi...so....
Rikiya Koyama would be a great choice too.
Lize using will-o-wisp was some "moment's before disaster" shit. Normal tera Staraptor, burned, with Facade... The only world where her Ceruledge could survive is the one where it hangs on to not make it's trainer sad.
Subaru understanding the danger of a paralyze at the end there makes me proud, she's come so far...
I thought Ceruledge was ghost type
@determinedhelicopter2948 She Terastalized which made it a pure fire type which allowed Larry to hit Facade/Fake Cheerfulness
@@allingbrodniak8819 the funny part is the game knew she was using tera, he would not have gone for the normal move if she had not used tera

Wholesome is... a word you can use for her, I supose
Wholesomely sweet as she cuts off your fingers.
My favorite is the girl who’s like “ I know a working adults weakness! Yawn !” XD
So Facade's name is roughly "Fake Cheerfulness" in Japanese?
makes sense, as to do a facade is when you put up an act.
It's even worse in Chinese, it's translated to "force oneself to go on"
Love how Facade can be interpreted as both a deceptive combat strategy and a robust business strategy.
And then we have Kara Genki. Literally empty energy. Implies "faking your enthusiasm". Just straight up "This man is not okay"
Larry really said "Fake it until you make it."

Fake Cheerfulness. AKA; The customer service smile. Deep in your soul you want the world to burn, but you have to force your face into a smile to keep your job.
If they end up doing a black/white 2 ultra sun/moon style game in this gen Larry should be the champion he deserves that big promotion
It seems like some trainers took direct damage from that attack
The Japanese Version: My life is miserable.
The American Version: I may be superman, but I’ll never tell.
Man I love localizations.
The American version still has his "my life is miserable" thing going to. By the end you really hate Geeta for what she's doing to Larry, abd later hearing from Grusha that his gyms is all he has left and Geeta us a constant threat that he could lose it.

I like the fact that Korone mentioning the other gym leaders have a second job implies that they don't make enough money to get by just being a gym leader in this region. I'm sure the real reason is they just have a hobby outside of constantly battling students/trainers, but the doors opening for other possibilities is interesting.
Ngl a lot of their secondary jobs don’t feel like hobbies, Larry is a salaryman and Koufu is a chef

It does. To relieve stress and frustration, aside from drinking their sorrows away, some adults sing their worries away while drunk.
@@user-fg9oy3uo3h I think she was referencing how in japanese culture or work culture in general it's hard to say no when your superior asks you to join for karaoke or drinks after work even if you just want to go home and rest or spend time with family, in order to stay in your superior's good books. I played the Titan and Team Star storylines first for grinding purposes and upgrade Koraidon before going for the Victory Road storyline.
I constantly swap out my team in order to prevent overleveling for some challenge, and challenge I got. Atticus nearly wiped my team, and I was using my highest level mons at the time. @@addison_v_ertisement1678 Media often makes a lot of cultural references, but they simultaneously downplay them because it's easy to get sued over simple references. For example, Kadabra's spoon and Japanese name (Yungerer) were a silly reference to illusionist Uri Geller, who actually took Nintendo to court over personality rights and they had to stop printing Kadabra's card from the Pokémon TCG and stop showing it in the animes for nearly 20 years.
