Meanwhile, I get many Pokémon that you can easily and randomly catch in the wild which is honestly annoying though I will admit that some I have not yet caught did show up and saved me time to evolve or find them. For me, I trade Eevee and Charmander. For those who missed Charizard the first time around and can’t wait for the 2nd round, there we go. The reason why I am trading away Charmander from breeding is because I want a Timid Charmander. No luck so far. For Eevee, it is so people have no need to hunt down Eevee’s evolutions if they want to evolve Eevee themselves. I am trying to get a Modest Eevee so that I will get a Modest Sylveon or at least a Sylveon with the Pixilate ability to take on Charizard solo when the time comes.
I'd honestly love to see Hololive do a kind of competition collab where they all try to guess which Pokemon they are based only on their English names.
E and I are interesting. There was an event in the english language called "The great vowel shift" where E and I traded places. You can see it getting swapped back around all the time in JP pronunciation.
A lot more changed in the great vowel shift than just the E and I. And those two didn't exactly change places either. Important to note right off the bat is that only long vowel pronunciations changed. A (mate) turned into a diphthong: EI E (beef) roughly took on the pronunciation of I I (kite) turned into a diphthong: AI O (good) roughly took on the pronunciation of U U (brute) didn't change during the great vowel shift A bunch of diphtongs like OU and EA also changed pronunciation. And there's also a very solid reason why JP pronunciation uses the old stuff. That's how those letters are still pronounced in nearly every other language that uses them (with some room for slight variance, such as an U pronunciation that doesn't even appear in English, and a bunch of whacky diphthongs). Because of this, standard romaji assume that standard pronunciation, and that's what they tend to reference when mentally converting the word to katakana they can pronounce. The correct romaji representation for kite would be ka i to, but if you don't know the word, it's easy to assume ki te.
I'm happy that the english names stay the same on an overseas pokemon even if they aren't nicknamed....don't ask me why I'm happy about it I couldn't tell you
I haven't done any Wonder Trades yet, but if this is anything to go by I have a strong feeling I'm going to receive an overabundance of cats. EDIT: I have not received a single cat. I _have_ received plenty of Charmanders, though.
This made me realize that the reason they don't have voices in the game is because even the developers don't know how to pronounce the majority of the pokemon 😂

(sure pokemon series has 1000+ pokemon at this point but i don't think any game has that many pokemon coded in them? pokemon go might eventually have but iirc even its something like 750 or 800 atm).. dats a lot of work and money for a thing that currently few coders can produce instead

Now, I thought that Emolga would be either “Emoruga” or (to better fit our pronunciation) “Imoruga”, since that’s how it would be spelled in a direct transcription, but nope. It’s “Emonga”. It comes from “emon” (drapery) and “momonga” (flying squirrel).
