Thanks that evens works for walk behind the black rubber garment screws in and out down where it attaches to the choke on the engine like you said it don't take much but it's a solid fix great video!
I can't thank you enough. This video helped me with an issue I've been struggling with for over 2 years. I just cleaned my carburetor and replace the needle valve without fixing a thing. This simple adjustment took me two minutes, solved my problem and helped me to understand how it works. My engine is a Briggs and Stratton V-Twin. Worked like a charm.
You are a life saver! I was sratching my head trying to solve this. Now I am up and running and don't have to use starting fluid anymore to get my mower started.
Probably the best video I've seen in awhile. My issue was exactly what you described and your tip worked flawlessly. I know my neighbors are going to be glad I finally fixed that damn thing! I cursed it up and down for months! Thanks again!
Two seasons dealing with this headache. I'm not a small engine mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined. Thank you for sharing your experience, you saved me a ton of headaches this mowing season. I adjusted the cable housing as you instructed and the mower fired right up. No more fighting to get this beast running anymore.
Absolutely spot on with your video. I just picked up a slightly used ZT1 and had to use starting fluid. Your video changed all of that for me. Thanks for your intelligence and taking time to put the video out.
Yup! Exactly what I needed as well. Starts like a champion now. Saved me buying anything.
I'm so grateful that I found this! Thanks for putting this fix on RUclips. Just got a new 42 inch Cub Cadet zero turn from Home Depot a few months ago and started having this problem. Took me about 5 mins to get it started each time I needed to mow the lawn. Saw your video, went out to the garage and maybe 10 mins making the adjustments and now starts right up every time! God bless, appreciate it!
Right on glad it helped!!!
Brilliant...a RUclips video that actually fixes something!! Thank you!
This was very helpful. Exact issue I had on a new mower and saved me a lot of troubleshooting and/or service calls.
Thank you so much. Been having issues starting for a while now. Did this and it started right up. Hasn’t started that quickly since I first bought it. You saved me time, energy and money.
I believe this little trick worked for me. I popped off the air cleaner, looked at the choke butterfly with the throttle lever on full-choke, and pushed up on the choke linkage like you did and I saw that it wasn't completely choked and there was too much of an air opening for the butterfly to properly choke the carburetor in full choke position. I loosened the bolt, moved the cable over to the left about 1/8th inch and tightened up the bolt, rechecked in the full choke position and the butterfly was now in full choke. I look forward to starting the engine in a couple days to see how it works, as having already started the engine earlier in the day with starting fluid, it always starts the rest of the day. But, your solution looks to be the fix for the cause of my starting issue on my 5 year old Cub Cadet Zero Turn mower, with the same engine that you showed. Thanks for the solution and for putting it on RUclips!
Exactly what I was looking for! Made the adjustment and Bam! All fixed! Thank you.
My Kohler engine would crank but not start. Followed your instructions and it started right up. Appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise.
Same issue! I've looked and looked for a proper description of my problem on my Kohler engine that I have like yours & you did it! Can't wait to adjust this cable tomorrow morning! Thank you!
Kohler. It’s spelled Kohler and pronounced “coh-ler”.
come on, we all noticed but he solved my issue
@@caniwishformorewishes8654 If it solved the issue then that what counts I'm with u LOL
usually I just call that mower a POS so never learned the proper name
@@EverydayImTECHnIt I agree that solving the issue is the most important thing, and you showed how to do that. But when you pronounce the name of the mower wrong at the beginning it makes some people think maybe you don't know what you're doing if you don't even know how to pronounce the name right. Then you called the fuel pump a fuel filter, it may not be important but it hurts your credibility and people may turn your videos off before they see that you actually know what you're doing.
Pos fixed thanks dude.
Wow! I’ve had the same problem with my John Deere for years and could never figure it out, countless cans of starter fluid later finally found your video and fixed the problem. Thanks
Thank you. Bought a new Cub Cadette last summer. Just tried to start it up today, and this was the problem. Thank you for your help. Might I add, only 3 minutes into the video, I was able to go out and give this a try, and it worked. Now I'll watch the rest of the video so I can totally fix the issue. Again, thank you.
Mine has been doing this since it was 2 years old. First video Iv found that finally gave me an explanation. Every time I wanna start my mower I have to drain the batter and put it on the charger and takes a hour or more to start. So glad you made this video!
thank you for posting this video!! i've had this same problem with my Ariens riding mower and this resolved my issue.
Thank you! I watched your video and took me about 2 minutes to resolve the same problem per your direction! thank you again.
Amazing, this simple fix corrected my difficult-starting issue. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
Thank you so much for this simple fix. Every spring I battle with this issue. Made the adjustment and BOOM...fired right up.
I watched a multitude of vid's illustrating how to start a mower by using starter fluid (I went to kindergarten a while back - I knew how to use a spray can) I finally found your video on what was causing the problem and how to fix it. I spent several frustrating hours before watching your video. It took less than 5 minutes after your demo and I was "back in the saddle". Thanks.
Good to hear it helped get you back in the saddle!!!
I had this issue with a husqvarna 46 in. lawn tractor I inherited from the previous homeowner, and had tried just about everything. I resigned to the starter fluid game, and told myself "I'd get to it later" thinking it'd be a hassle to troubleshoot. I happened to run across this video, and THANK YOU SO MUCH! I literally laughed with glee when it started right up after fixing it. THANKS!!
Same 24hp Kohler on my Craftsman zero-turn, same problem. Perfect fix.
THANK YOU!!!
I just bought a new Cub Cadet and used it for 9 hours. I checked the filters, removed and replaced gas (thought I bought some bad gas), checked carb, spark plug and finally found this video. A 5 minute fix would have saved me hours. Honestly it shouldnt come from the factory messed up but I didn't have a way to take it in for service so was trying to fix myself. Glad I found this! Cab Cadet needs to fix this!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I replaced the carb, starter, spark plug, and solenoid and my mower still wouldn't crank. Saw your video, made the adjustment and she cranked right up. Your video was the first one ever mentioning this choke adjustment. Thank you, again!!
My man you are a genius… thank you saved me a trip to the mechanic. Thx
I have the same issue with my Kubota zero turn. It has a 25 hp Kohler engine. I did what you said and it works like a charm now. Thanks a bunch.
I have the same Kobbler engine. This was the fix for me! You sir are a gem!
Heck ya glad to hear I was able to help you fix it!!!!
You are the man, fixed it instantly. I was having the exact problem you described.
Hell ya that's awesome u the issue solved glad the video was able to help!!!!
I'm on RUclips all the time, but this is one of the first times I've ever 'Liked' a video. Simple and straight to the point. Mine came like this from the store for some reason. I figured it was something simple, but I'd always forget until it was time to mow, and I didn't want to be bothered with researching it, so I just did the starter fluid trick and forgot about it until the next time. This took 5 minutes and my mower that hadn't started for 2 weeks started right up at a bare turn of the key! Thanks!!!
Same thing been using the starter fluid for 2 years, gona try fix this am maybe fix my problem liked video, clear and straight to the point thanks,
Just got back from purchasing some starting fluid and ran across this video I will surly give this a look ,,,,THANKS
Thanks alot I have a cub cadet less than year old and this turned what I thought was huge problem into a 5 minute problem~! You tha man!
You are a savior!!! I was about to sell my mower. My fix was put 2 space heaters in my shed and run them for 30min to get this gosh darn mower to start. THANK YOU!
I can't thank you enough!! Been fighting this issue for some time now to the point that I would drain the battery frequently. Definitely saved my starter. It's below freezing today and after applying this fix it started on the first try. Can't believe it was so simple.
Dude!!!!!! Dude!!!! This fixed my mower instantly. Thanks
OMG, this fixed it! RST-42S with a Kohler SV715 with the single lever throttle/choke combo. Put the lever on full choke, loosened the screw (torx bit required), pulled so the choke lever is fully up (=closed), WORKED!! Thanks so much. I had replaced the carb, fuel pump, hoses, fuel filter, plugs... still would not start w/o a shot of starting fluid. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I've read through countless threads of advice on how to fix this problem over the past two months, pointing to everything except for the Choke Cable. Based on the symptoms most of the advice did not make any sense. Stumbled across your video this morning and within 15 minutes I had the rider mower starting again without Starter Fluid. Thanks, Great Video!!!!
That Awesome Glad To Hear It Helped Get Your Mower Runnin & Solved The Problem!!!!! Great To Hear!!!!!
Thank you for this! Been driving myself nuts trying to figure out why the mower wont start when it gets into the 50s in the fall. Figured it had to do with the choke somehow but was unsure how to adjust it. Cant wait to go work on it tomorrow.
Thanks a lot man. I fixed mine before the video was over . On the road.
Thank you!! Had the same model. Fixed the problem in 5 minutes. I was just about to take on the carb, spark plug, etc. before finding your video. Didn't even get my hands dirty.
We purchased an Cub Cadet lawnmower on 9/6/23. The lawnmower would not start on 10/1/23. We watched your video Sir. Let me tell you, IT WORKED! We are so thankful for your video. It has saved us a lot of headaches, like several service calls, repair store...ECT. We can't thank you enough.😊😊😊 May GOD bless you and your family 🙏.
Thank you so much! I have been looking for this fix for almost 2 years!!!
My mower was driving me crazy not starting. This video was a life saver.
Thank you
You just help me i was about to go home but after I watched your video I started my day working thank you alot
Thank you!! After trying all the "Common" solutions....watched your video, few minutes later after adjusting the cable she fired right up!! Thanks :)
Just tried this on my cadet that only had 14 hours on it. Worked perfectly. Extremely simple fix. Thanks
Wow it solved my problem. No more having to shoot the starting fluid. I previously changed the air filter, replaced
the spark plugs, new fuel filter, oil change and still wouldn't start without the starting fluid. I found this video yesterday and it took me less than 5 minutes to fix the problem as you instructed. My mower started right up on the first crank!
I really appreciate your video. I'm going to subscribe to your channel!!
Hell ya glad to hear it helped Thanks for the feedback ya I kinda did the same thing just about before I finally had the apple fall on my head & I was like holly crap that's all it was I was happy to finally figure it out tho. LOL
Thanks for the information, I had the same problem with my machine. fixed it. Thank you for posting this!!!
Dude I just found this video and I went and did the adjustment and it fired right up. its a two year old ZT1 Ultima with a 22hp Kohler. Its been getting worse and worse from day one. and this was my issue. I really appreciate it much
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! It was the exact issue I had. It only took maybe 3min to adjust. Works perfect, starts every time
FIxed my mower right up!! Thank you for the video!!
Thank you so much. That did the trick. I took off the cover I didn't have any starter fluid so poured some gas in the carburetor and it started up. So I adjusted the throttle cable. So now it cranks up by itself when I hit the key thank you so much for that RUclips video
Thank you, I’m gonna try this in the morning.
Thank You Much! Fixed my starting problem!
Fantastic video! Solved my issue perfectly!! Thanks!
Dude thank you so much. This issue was bothering me for over a year. I can’t believe that’s all it was
When I first looked at this video, I thought "No way this is the answer to my problem"! Same symptoms, but surely my cable wouldn't just loosen during the winter. I thought, might as well try it...You, my friend, are a genius! (or at least you get honorable mention!) The only question...is Kohler pronounce "Kosher" over yonder in Kansas City? LOL! Thanks for the video! Worked like a charm!
Most small engines that are hard to start and have been properly maintained are caused by this. But everyone attacks the hard stuff first.
Great advice for DIYers!
Nice. Worked like a charm. Mine is a zt1 55inch cub cadet kohler 7000 series v twin
Thank you! I had tried everything I could think of that was easy to do...ethanol free gas, new spark plug, changed the oil, new air filter, ran Seafoam in the gas. Not too handy with carbs so I ordered a new one and was about to put it on when I came across your video. Ran out to the garage and in 5 minutes had the issue fixed! Started on first turn of the key. Also ran with a lot more power.
When your lawn mower is turning you into a shade tree mechanic this is what you go through. By the time you're done with this mower you will be a certified pro because you have already been through the whole trial and error phase. You might save somebody a few bucks someday. My Cub Cadet has put me through the ringer over the last two years. I can now diagnose certain issues.
Thanks for the tip. Same problem on a Briggs and Stratton. Replaced filters and plugs with no luck. Saw this video, went out and manually choked it and the engine fired right up
Thanks for the tip! Although my cable came in from the right side and was held down by a T25 Torx. Starts like new!!!
I’ll have to try this in the morning appreciate it
Thank you! This was the problem you hit the nail on the head! It worked just as you said to the tee> Thank you thank you thank you again!
Al
Yes. Had same issue thank u so much for ur help I'm a women that have no idea about this stuff and this step by step was easy enough
Man thank you. I was gonna sell my mower until I watched this. It really works. You the man.

Right On Glad It Worked For U & Helped!!!!
I haven’t tried this yet but i just bought a new cub cadet XT1 XL 46” and i ended up sending it back because of this problem and when the replacement came i found the same issue. I just unpackaged my new one today and couldn’t get it started. I’m going to give this a go tomorrow
thanks for this video! I just was able to fix my generic generator with this little trick! I thought it was the spark plug but I couldn’t reach it Because it was buried under the panels so I looked up your video and lubed up the cable wire to the choke, and lo and behold it started right up! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks for watching & feedback!!! Glad it helped & you got it fixed!!!
Thank you so much worked like a charm! Appreciate it!
Thanks so so much!!!!! I got my cubbie running with no starting fluid🎉🎉🎉

This worked for me! Learned something new
Thank you sir , I was having this issue on my 33 inch cub cadet
Fixed my problem thank you!!!
Worked perfectly thank you pulled the slack out of cable
Can't believe it fix . thank you man
Ok thanks for the INFO, fine business!
I have had this problem for YEARS, not enouth Choke. it took me abt 25 seconds to pull air cleaner and dump a little gas to carb then it would always start and run well and restart if not off for a few days. My mower is a Troy/Bilt 50" zero turn with 25hp Kohler and have checked for years for someone with enough drive to trouble shoot the problem, I was just toooooo LAZY abt 8 or so years ago I did adjust the cable and it worked for a few years then stopped working so back to adding gas. Now that you showed the problem and showing the actual CHOKE linkage. I added a TYE WRAP and or with the large end pushing on the CHOKE linkage to close the CHOKE plate. Now it starts without adding GAS!
BRO! You are a saint!!!! I have a higher end Kubota with briggs motor and this solved my problem. Kubota kept wanting to sell me different parts and charge me labor hours to look at my zero just to "diagnose" even though im telling them what is wrong. This took me 2 seconds to verify and your video deserves more views
Heck ya I love to hear it sometime if you want it fixed you got to do it yourself lol
I have a craftsman 52” zero turn z6900 same exact mower except mine has the two steering handles… but I had the exact same problem… thanks for the video…
Worked for me. Moved it over about a quarter of an inch. 👍👍
Thanks, it helped with my sv720 motor!
Thanks I’m going to try that on mine. Hopefully it works.
After 4 hours and lots of wasted money …. This video was all I needed. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video! It fixed my problem in 5 minutes. I was so frustrated and was about to bring it to the dealer. Saw your video and bingo!!!! Great job! Thanks again.
Glad it helped ya kinda weird issue for sure
I have another question I hope you can help me with. When the mower starts it pulls to the left. Do you know what that would be from? Thanks so much!!!
@@michellemarcello4947 If i had to give it my best guess i would say to check the clutch/safety pedal u push into start & forward pedal to make sure it is adjusted correctly under mower it sounds like it a issue with left side staying engauged in forward not 100% sure tho but has to be a pedal adjustment issue you probably want to check in rear underside of mower by like back axle hope that helps!
Thanks for the tips!
I have a brand new troy-bilt z54 zero turn mower, with a Briggs & Stratton professional mower on it.and its doing the exact same thing to me right now.i also have 3 more troy-bilt 54 inch mustangs mower with the same moter on them except there 25 hp,there the z54 is 24 hp.so ill try your advice tomorrow now.i also have 2 troy-bilt super bronco 54 & 50 inch mowers with the klopers on them and beleave me now they love gas now.they burn 2 × more gas in 1 day of mowing that my troy-bilt zero turns do,I have a big lawn mowing business and to me right gas is very very valuable these days!!!!!
BRO YOU ARE A WIZARD! Worked immediately for my mower. Consider me subscribed.
Just tried it, thanks, save me a lot of time too
Glad it helped & worked for u!!! Thx for the feedback!!!
Thank you for your videos
Thank you very much. Great troubleshooting tip. It was my choke. Adjusting that cable did it. 1 year old machine? I was wondering what happened . 👍🏻
Fixed my issue.. thankd
