I'm from the US and had never heard this song or this band before, but from the first time I heard it and played it for my son it has been our favorite song!! Cold Chisel forever!!!
well I'm Aussie and this song is played everywhere here in Australia What a classic, I was in my best!!! and LOVE my vegemite!!! Cold Chisel really needs to be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
I could listen to this song over and over and over and over and over... One of the all time greats which brings back a lot of memories and will no doubt be involved in a lot more in the future.
Cold Chisel constantly touring ..Holden HQs ..Ford falcons..smoke filled pubs with endless bands..drinking an driving smokin weed.. scoring chicks..oh what a mighty era..gd n bad ..cherish the memories
I was a little younger but you brought back some childhood memories of my parents living that life. My Dad was in one of those Aussie rock bands and had a sweet Falcon.
I’m a Kiwi and I just absolutely love this song! It’s funny how the vibes from this song gives so much good feels! Lots of Arora from the little tiny neighbour across the Tasman
In New Zealand we got the best of both the British and US charts, but in the eighties while we had some quality stuff locally with bands like the Dudes and Hello Sailor, we also loved what the aussies were doing over the ditch! Chisel, Crawl, Men At Work, the Mentals, it was a golden era for aussie rock.
I remember playing this on my dads 5 CD changer. It was a Hitachi. I miss those childhood days even though I played it during the 90s. 22 years later and I still love it.
This clip brings back so many memories and the power of Jimmy's voice is amazing. Sadly it reminds me of a beautiful young friend who took her own life when we were just young teens. Forever-now!
I was a young teen and living in New Zealand and loving this song..still my favourite Cold Chisel song. Great to see a young Jimmy Barnes with that lovely hair....
30 years later and the best guitar tone is still from a strat and a marshall valve amp. makes me so home sick, stuck in the UK. Have a great Australia day chisel forever
What a classic, I was in my best!!! and LOVE my vegemite!!! The (now) late Steve Prestwich's first songwriting single release. Genius. And he's the DRUMMER 😀
Nothing like hearing this on the radio when the sun comes up workin Saturday morning in Oz. makes me so home sick, stuck in the UK. Have a great Australia day chisel forever So glad these guys are Aussie!!!
I miss 80's :( Great song!! Perfection from start to finish. Took me so long to learn that guitar solo when I was learning ... Mossy ... One of Aussies best
I miss 80's :( Great song!! Nothing like hearing this on the radio when the sun comes up workin Saturday morning in Oz. What a classic, I was in my best!!! and LOVE my vegemite!!!
Ah yes. The period when good music shone through without the need for a cast of 50 chicky-babes, mixing by a DJ, 10+ wardrobe changes, short skirts or gold bling/wigs, or exotic locations to keep the public transfixed... love this, thanks for sharing nzoz1981!
Nothing like hearing this on the radio when the sun comes up workin Saturday morning in Oz. One o my all time fave Chisel songs, ... but there are so many...
I grew up to cold chisel Songs with my dad blasting them.. It's been 10 Years since he's been gone i appreciate them more at 19 years old playing them and having a better understanding of the lyrics.
I love how the great song writer Don Walker, can't nod his head to the beat of the music. Just goes to show....... This is a great song by the late and great Prestwitch.
I was working doing my day shift at an abattoir in Southland NZ in 2000, this song was playing blaring off through the speakers. I was enjoying it and asked my fellow workers about the name of the band and it's singer. Nobody seemed to know then, some said it was Big River Band. Many years later in Australia only now I knew it is the Chisels. Love this song, band and artist immensely.
Dhuan Absa An abattoir !? How in Christ’s name could you have ‘ worked ‘ willingly in a murder-hole of that sort !? I’ve done all manner of the dullest and noggin-numbing jobs in the bush, but never, ever agreed to taking wages for the grotty and gruesome butchering of helpless creatures. Bugger all regard, on my part, for Aussie notions of ‘ grit ‘ and ‘ the coal face ‘.
Albert Arthur Parsnips. Somebody has to do the job. I'm just the very few at the beginning of the chain. Hundreds more workers involved till the meat arrived at the overseas destinations or local supermarkets, bro. The industry give employment to thousands of people, who want to work, great income for the meat companies and revenues to Australia and NZ. What is wrong with that?
Dhuan Absa ‘ Shut up ‘ !? On what grounds ? That you’re peeved and appalled ? Hardly the most solid of foundations, I’m afraid. I could not give a proverbial toss with regard to your wafer-weighted ‘ excuse ‘ for needs for employment amongst a doubtlessly needy workforce. Pardon my swank, posh, elitist presumption,.but in years of desperate searches for gainful employment in the 90S, it’d have been , even then, beyond the original pale for me to accept a wage to batter and harass the bodies, and slit the throats, of mere children for a few quid. And, no, I’m by means inclined to obey any crude and vulgar yelps from YOUR likes to ‘ shut up ‘, sport. You have Buckley’s chance of popping a gag on my cake hole, cobber.
Didn’t go outside of Australia, jimmy Barnes and Molly Meldrum apparently didn’t get along so well, never got tours or promoted anywhere else besides Australia really.
Oh believe me there was. I have an older brother. He's 15 years older than me, lol. I don't know if he listened to this one. He was big Van Halen fan, lol.
I emigrated to Australia in 1982, just a wee lad from Scotland, bought a radio, this was the tune that was playing when i switched it on and will stay with me forever. Back in Scotland now however.
One of my favourite Chisel songs ever! I took a Chisel album to the States in the 80s, and the people couldn't believe how good they were. They wanted know why they hadn't heard of them. So did I!!!!!
So glad these guys are Aussie!!! Nothing like hearing this on the radio when the sun comes up workin Saturday morning in Oz. What a classic, I was in my best!!! and LOVE my vegemite!!!
Hey Wheatfields Im glad to hear that Barnesy has fans in the States, the song Forever Now is off an album called "Circus Animals' and absolute classic. Forever Now was written by drummer Steve Prestwich who passed away last year sadly. Ive seen Barnesy live 4 times since 2003, but I was in New York when they Toured again in October last year-DOH!!
Circus Animals is a fantastic album, filled with so many killer tracks, some of the best written songs and showed off the great talent that Cold Chisel had back in the day.
This is close to being my favourite song ever, was my sisters favourite before she died in 1982. Ian Moss's guitar lines in this are damn near perfect, tried covering it a few times but have left it well alone, am happy to just listen instead :)
Respect from Canada. Grew up in Bondi listening to this, didn´t appreciate it then, I do now. 30 years later and the best guitar tone is still from a strat and a marshall valve amp.
Yeah I was in Bondi listening to this great band when this came out in the early 80s. Now back in the UK where I was born, and often think, especially now, what have I done. !!!
stratmad True, Cold Chisel are as good as any of the great US & UK rock bands. Had they been from either of those places, i truly believe _they'd have been as big_ and as succesful, world-wide, as The Doors, CCR, Deep Purple, and other similar, legendary rock acts.
Yes of course there is and this is one such example of well thought out guitar parts in the body of the song, a guitar lick that hooks the listener's interest before the the verses and a well constructed outro guitar solo. What Ian Moss played serves the song, without being over the top flashy and without outstaying his welcome. Getting the job done with taste.
+stratmad As a guitarist myself, I've always thought that Mossy had a unique way of playing his solos in terms of note choice. I would love to sit down and talk to him about sometime. :)
This song is incredible amazing arrangement and guitar work and theres something incredibly attractive going on with the girl at the table.Love the syncing with the editing and fly swat
Before Jimmy starting screaming everything-brilliant. Especially love the "tink tink" cymbal playing on tea cup/sugar jar-half the table is a drum kit. Pure classic-they just don't make 'em like this anymore.
Hey, this is the best Aussie Song I ever heard - amazing - theres my happiness - yes, I remember...brilliant guitar, awesome drums, outstanding vocals - and I'm kiwi telling the truth! I love ya Cobber!
Apologies if this is addressed in the other 976 comments, but is that Garry McDonald in the kitchen? On a more serious note, Ian Moss' phrasing and note selection is beyond reproach. Also Jimmy's range and emotive vocal phrasing is sublime. Thank you Steve Prestwich (RIP) for such an amazing song, that's stayed with me all these years.
Saw them at Adelaide Entertainment Centre tonight. Just amazing. The atmosphere, the bad themselves, just electrifying and nostalgic all at once, the crowd all on their feet before they'd even gotten to the stage... what a great feeling.
Hi to Jimmy and the Boys. Sad to hear of Steve's passing, we will always remember him for his contribution to the Music industry. Steve, you may have left us, but your songs live on in all who loved chisel.

Circus Animals is a fantastic album, filled with so many killer tracks, some of the best written songs and showed off the great talent that Cold Chisel had back in the day.
Honestly one of the best guitar solos ever. The tone is so perfect.
This could quite possibly be the best song of all time, and wow people say this song is bad.
This is close to being my favourite song ever, was my sisters favourite before she died in 1982.

Great song!!
I do love this song. His voice is strong and well controlled.
Ian Moss' outro guitar solo is as fine as any you will hear anyone play anywhere in rock in the last 40 years - Gilmour, Felder / Walsh, Santana, etc.
stratmad True, Cold Chisel are as good as any of the great US & UK rock bands. Had they been from either of those places, i truly believe _they'd have been as big_ and as succesful, world-wide, as The Doors, CCR, Deep Purple, and other similar, legendary rock acts.
Yup I'd agree with that
+stratmad In the context of this song i agree with you. But there are lots of amazing guitar solos out there man.

I'm so fucking proud of this upload... such a beautiful clear picture and awesome sound
+nzoz1982 Not kidding sounds is great and what a legendary song
+nzoz1982 Do you, or anybody else, think that Jimmy Barnes would have slipped in perfectly as a stand in for Brian Johnson?
Good question.. but I'd rather he stay in Chisel to be honest. Now you got me thinking.
Barnsey singing 'You Shook Me All Night Long' instead of this?
Very true
Absolutely, but he's a much better singer with a much greater range.
This is the favourite song of a old nurse i work with. She always comes in singing it when i put it on.
Don Walker...up there with Neil Finn and Paul Kelly as the greatest song writers ever.
I agree!
Neil Finn who is now the front man for Fleetwood Mac so cool, kiwi talent for sure 😊
Absolutely.
Altho tbf this song in particular was written by Steve.
I like the sentiment but Don Walker rules
Love this song, one that sticks in the head since it came out can listen to over and over.
Great song.. sounds like a cpl who lost track of each other is getting back together. .forever♡
My fave fave fave fave fave Chisel song. Love Jimmy's vocals and just love it!!! Did I say I love it????
the greatest aussie band ever
This song is so moving- they played it at my cousin's funeral a week ago and it just brought everyone to tears.
Great song 💕 Take me back to the good old days where music was good and people weren't offended by everything
Long Live your music Steve. Forever in our hearts. You will be missed dearly. :(
Apologies if this is addressed in the other 976 comments, but is that Garry McDonald in the kitchen? On a more serious note, Ian Moss' phrasing and note selection is beyond reproach. Also Jimmy's range and emotive vocal phrasing is sublime. Thank you Steve Prestwich (RIP) for such an amazing song, that's stayed with me all these years.
Saw them at Adelaide Entertainment Centre tonight. Just amazing. The atmosphere, the bad themselves, just electrifying and nostalgic all at once, the crowd all on their feet before they'd even gotten to the stage... what a great feeling.
great aussie music!!!
I miss 80's :(
