Jen Campbell is hosting a readalong and I can't wait to finally get to it...In regards to what you said about violence - it sounds pretty reminiscent of fairytales which are shockingly violent and tamed down by Disney versions. I don't think it's a stretch to nominate "What Makes the Red Man Red" from Disney's Peter Pan as the least politically correct song ever!
I really don't think that Disney stay close to the original! Just an example (and there are many), Hook was originally educated in one of the best boarding school in England, Eton, but in the Disney movie, he comes out as a buffoon. Very different interpretation which Walt Disney made his own!

The original was Peter and Wendy and then Disney called it Peter Pan
