Proff, the three piece suit you are wearing in this video is the most stylish thing one could wear. Certainly my favourite outfit of yours. Keep on inspiring!
First pair of long trousers was at boarding school, mid 60's, awful grey serge things with cuffs. Grandparents, mother's family, loved to dress well and so do I. They were farmers, ordinary folk. My sense of fashion is reserved old-school, inherited my grandfather's cravats, overcoats, and walking sticks. Immediately subscribed, love the show, the banter, the pointed comments. Cheers from NZ!
Just the comfort alone is reason enough. I started making my trousers full-cut after I saw Proff’s videos. They are soooo comfortable. Super comfortable. Mobility is much easier!
Originally, the reason why i prefer full cut trousers is that my thighs and lower legs are a little bit thick because of sports. So they don't fit any of those ready to wear skinny trousers. After watching Proff's videos, I do agree that wearing full cut trousers needs no further explanation. Keep going there.
Full cut trousers are fantastic. The skinny look is questionable at best. You are also on point regarding natural symmetry. Thanks as always for everything you do here.
This tends to be the case if you care more about how the cut makes YOU feel than you care about what random people who think pyjamas in public are "hip" would think.
In the US, when you go through basic military training pretty early on they take you to clothing issue to do full body measurements to have your dress uniform tailored, they instruct you not to bother asking for your dress blues to be made slimmer/skinny because your uniform is supposed to fit a very specific way. Alot of guys complained during/after about the “bagginess”. Most were the same guys that didn’t know how to tie a tie.
Love your stuff Proff! Just started watching you guys and I already love it here. Another reason full cuts are so great is (I'd imagine) having an air bubble inside your pants would prevent heat transfer (Sun hits pants and pants on skin contact transfers it to the body thereas basically making wearing pants useless.) on a hot day, and provide insulation (trap air in the pants and heat it up with body heat) on a cold day.
I recently found your channel and love that you mentioned wearing suspenders which is something I don’t hear many so-called fashion experts mention. It looks so bad when a man wear a belt with a suit, especially a three piece suit. It distributes the line of the suit. Suit paints should have either side adjusters or suspends. All my suits are made with fish tail back and button so I can wear suspenders.
I am amazed how much you think similar to me regarding this subject, and I am a woman; I feel the same way about women wearing straight pants as opposed to skinny pants that fit close to the body. Excellent video!
All very valid points, Okey. Not sure if you specifically mentioned drape, but there is a minimum fullness required for good drape, of course. The trousers will not be in harmony with the jacket if the jacket is relaxed and draping well without disturbances and wrinkles, but the trousers are wrinkled and skintight.
I have always worn semi-full cut trousers that are bespoke. You will always get compliments. Certainly if the breaks of the trouser cover 2/3 of the shoe.
Wow, myself I’ve always disliked slim trousers for work suits. But definitely feel their popularity. Lately a coworker and I have gone to wearing slightly bigger and I love the comfortability and pleats. After seeing these cuts and higher waist trousers I am fully on board and hope to see more appreciating this for what it is. A style choice and preference. We men should stick together and not bash things that are different or don’t understand. I think it’s a great style and should never go out of style. Great vid. 👍🏾👖

I don't agree with using the extremes of skinny versus oversized. I am in the middle and wear straight fit trousers as I am bulky. Usually above drainpipe but no way billows. Totally agree on getting the proportions right
Thank you for the video! There were some eras when trousers with more narrow legs were worn. Apart from the 1950s and early 60 they were in fashion around 1913-1925. If you look at cuts from this time, it really looks interesting. But there was one huge difference between todays skinny trousers! (Even in tight pantaloons of the early 19th century), there was much space in the upper part and they were hight-waisted! I know, because I own some original pieces. Which makes it still so much more comfortable to wear them than most trousers of today.
This is an instinct I have been developing as a fitter and branching into more sensible cuts for my own clothes, especially in buying vintage and antique pieces. Several months ago I started suggesting the full-cut trouser to my clients by saying "Because of the breadth of your shoulders and chest, you can and should carry a fuller trouser." They often get nervous about getting out of their "comfort zone", but as they do not dress properly nearly as often as I do, which is daily, I assume they really have no comfort zone to be in. Wanting to look like a sportscaster or a picture from Instagram is not a comfort zone, it is a fantasy.
Mr. Okey thank you, thank you, indeed thank you, first of all for the fine historical education on men's trousers and secondly on the common sense approach of why fuller cut trousers are a better fit than as you call them drainpipe trousers. I personally prefer fuller-cut pants for many of the reasons you highlighted they give a more unified look to wearing a suit they do compliment your dress shoes with a proper hem, and without question, they are more comfortable to wear, tighter fitting narrow trousers are murder on the "family jewels" when sitting or walking... I recently purchased a 3pc suit off eBay, unbeknownst to me the trousers were narrow cut, at first I thought I would donate them to a resale shop, but because I really like the suit I took them to a tailor and was fortunate to have the trousers legs let out for more room, again thanks for all the excellent men's wear information you provide

Incorrect. Look at Daniel Craig's Heineken suit. It looks very good. Askokey's trousers are straight up potato bags. It doesn't follow the contours of the legs.

Well said there Proff, definitely agree with all the points that you made here in this video regarding the trousers. Your video also pretty much sums up the reason why I stay away from skinny/slim fit trousers and basically I'm the guy who always wear high rise full cut trousers daily. My style is definitely more to the 1930s-1950s which is why I always wear high rise full cut trousers and stay away from the today's skinny/slim fit trousers Anyway, keep up the good work there Proff!
I'm 56 year old African British male. In my teens I worked in clothing stores dressing up "city" typed if you will. I learnt a lot about suits and classical gentleman dress, but I've never been able to afford a bespoke suit. I'd love full cut trousers.
This makes a lot of sense and explains why I get treated differently whenever I wear full cut trousers ... I always get a very formal business like attention My very expensive slim fit suits barely get noticed .
100% agree, but I have a question. Following the rule of 2/3 of the trousers width at the hem and shoe, Should the width of the trousers be 2/3 of the length of the shoe or cover 2/3 of the shoe? It is not exactly the same thing. For example, a trouser 20cms wide (40 cms circumference) at the bottom would not cover 2/3 of a 30 cms shoe because the trousers open up due to the width of the ankle and leg. A 25cm trouser (50cm circumference) at the hem covers 2/3 of the shoe because it covers about 20cm of the shoe lengthand the remaining 5cm is the opening of the trousers at the bottom. Regards from Spain!
The hem should be slightly wider than 2/3 the length of your shoes. I wear size 40, the shoe length is around 28.5cm, my hem is 21cm. If I took 19cm (which is 2/3 the shoe length), it would not open large enough due to ankle and leg. A safe fornula is: Your shoe size EU minus 20 then add 1 or 2 cm. My case: 40-20+1 = 21cm. Works pretty well.
As i explore a more refined style, I've found myself drawn more to a full cut rather than slim, which has been my go to for ankong time. As a muscular guy, slim fit can be trucky to pull off. Just found your channel so have some binging to do 😆
The tight and short modern suit reminds me unintentionally of the suit used in movies by the comic Norman Wisdom, who intentionally took a suit coat with a smaller size.
We all need measurements of our 1) waistline where we actually wear our pants, 2) rise, the measurement from the center top rear waistline, down under the crotch, and up to the center top front waistline, 3) hips, level crossing the hip bones and over the widest part of the butt, and 4) each thigh, covering the widest part (and using the widest of the two). That's the "core" from which we can choose the leg taper.
@@AskOkeyInc Your content actually confirmed what a good tailor told me: all dress pants start full because they have to fit our core, but too many bigger men don't accept their core size and try to follow the taper trends.
I don't typically buy completely full cut trousers, but I still ensure that the trouser legs have room. This ensures comfort, a more harmonious look, and doesn't stray away too far from my naturally slim build. I feel like if I went too far with the fullness, the trousers would stand out. The minimum fullness also depends on my shoes, though. I am very tall, 6'7", to be exact, and I naturally have a very large shoe size. The trousers need to be full enough that my shoes don't stand out as much as they would otherwise. The goal is to tie all of the idiosyncrasies of my build together and, as you said, create a kind of unit.
I personally think wear whatever is comfortable and compliments your figure. I’m shorter and if I wore trousers like the gentleman is wearing here, even in my size, they will look baggy and puddle up at the ankles. I wear mostly slim cut trousers and to me, they are not uncomfortable at all. They fit well and are made of good material. I’ve actually fallen asleep in them and had no issues!
This was one of the reasons why I was wearing more slim fit clothing, to give more illusion of height, but recently I’ve seen better arguments for a middle ground from shirts suits to pants it’s all about the silhouette
thanks for this great video. So you're recommending in your example a 10-inch hem and a 12-inch knee, but what's the width at the upper leg for trousers like yours
Different strokes for different folks. As a 6'5 man, my body is very slim so I can sometimes get away with some slim dress pants. Though I have to be careful in picking them but I also like a straight leg as well. Body type is what it comes down to for me.
There is a reason most guys eventually want to dress like their grandfathers and great-grandfathers. These men wore classic, timeless, and elegant attire. While the skinny leg look can be sold to young people, they eventually move to wherever the trend tells them. Essentially, their "style" is disposable and fleeting. Classic dress attire never goes out of style.
Full cut trousers are not just a fashion statement, but a reflection of a man's character. They exude a sense of style and sophistication, paying homage to traditional fashion while still being relevant in today's society. Men who choose to wear full cut trousers are not trying to relive past eras, but rather, they are making a statement about their own individuality and confidence. These trousers may not be as tight or form-fitting as their skinny counterparts, but that is precisely what sets them apart. Their understated yet visible presence speaks volumes about the wearer's personality - they are not looking for attention or trying to fit in with the latest trends, but rather, they are comfortable in their own skin. On the other hand, skinny pants, or 'drainpipes' as they are often referred to, are nothing more than an eyesore. They are uncomfortable, restrictive, and give off an air of someone desperately trying to be trendy. A man wearing skinny pants is not someone who has their own sense of style and vision. Instead, they are following the crowd, lacking self-awareness, and unable to make fashion choices that truly reflect their personality. It's like comparing a first-class flight to an economy class one - the latter may seem appealing at first glance, but ultimately falls short in terms of comfort and class. But it's not just about style and fashion, it's about manners and personality. Men who wear full cut trousers are known for having impeccable manners, something that is often overlooked in today's society. They pay attention to details and notice things that others may not. They are the type of gentlemen who will not hesitate to offer their seat to someone in need. These small gestures speak volumes about their character and make them stand out in a crowd. In comparison, men in skinny pants often lack any sort of sophistication or manners. They may be dressed in expensive clothing, but that does not make up for their lack of knowledge or substance. These are the type of men who cannot name a single artist and confuse Tolstoy, the renowned Russian author, for a brand of vodka. It's clear that the way a man dresses says a lot about their personality and interests. As a woman, I would not be impressed by the expensive labels and stylish accessories of a man in skinny pants. But a 95-year-old gentleman in a well-fitted pair of full cut trousers? Now that's someone who would have my undivided attention and admiration. So next time you see a man in full cut trousers, remember that it's not just a fashion choice, but a reflection of their style, character, and manners.
Dear prof firstly i would to sabu hv an excelent body and full cut trouser bring out ur style and it suits u very well do not let anyone discourage u and thank u for the lessons
Proff please make a slim fit trouser for yourself, and try to compare with with your full cut trousers. I think this way we will have much better understanding about this "Silhouette" that you've mentioned in the video. I do agree that full cut trousers look WAY better 👌
Thank you Proff for another informative video! I have been replacing my slim trousers to more classic full cut trousers recently, and I have basically ditched belts for suspenders. But as the warmer months approaches, a question arised for me: is it acceptable to wear suspenders over short sleeved polos?
Yes proff.. Full cut, pleated and high waisted trouser are godsend for short king like me😂not only short but compact as well😂. Now not only my suit trouser are full cut even my casual trouser also full cut.my profile pict was from 2021 and have skinny fit,low rise and flat front.i look ridiclous in that pants😂.wish i know better back then
In my opinion, suit looks good only when it's tailor made corresponding to a figure and emphasising strengths of the figure. In other words figure should not be totally lost in the suit. Then trousers should be tapered for most men and it fits perfectly for massive tighs, ending up with hem width around 1/3 of shoe length (btw. it's still golden ratio, isn't it? 😉). Anyway it's a great pleasure to listen to this gentleman, greetings from Poland!
I have a question. I always hear that if you wear suspenders; don't wear a belt. I'm a retired Law Enforcement Officer. I often carry a sidearm even today. I try to carry a smaller weapon I'd possible. I still do personal protection from time and that requires a full size pistol (Colt 1911 and 2 extra magazines). This requires a wider ( 1 1/2" to 1 3/4") belt. I like suspenders with the belt to help distribute the weight of the additional gear. (Don't forget handcuffs a small flashlight. Thanks
Indeed Proff, how to style suspenders with trousers as well as different models of trousers. For example fishtail trousers where the back top of the trousers are just a bit elevated or a just normal high waisted trousers with an even waistband. Where should I been keen in general and in button placement?
Exactly. Both look rather silly. In my opinion, how Brian Sacawa of He Spoke Style gets his suits tailored is a good middle ground, if not leaning a little toward slim due to his slim build.

I'm 56 year old African British male. In my teens I worked in clothing stores dressing up "city" typed if you will. I learnt a lot about suits and classical gentleman dress, but I've never been able to afford a bespoke suit. I'd love full cut trousers.
@@welcometruthseekers I’m sure you dress well despite it sir

That was excellent great details and examples for balance I saved it for future reference when I purchase my next suite and discussion with my tailor.

This makes a lot of sense and explains why I get treated differently whenever I wear full cut trousers ... I always get a very formal business like attention
My very expensive slim fit suits barely get noticed .
Prof you are the “ Man”❤️❤️
I got running back thighs, full cut is perfect for me. The comfort is second to none.
I enjoyed the presentation it was very informative

Hi Okey,You are very welcome.❤️🙏🏼☺️

This guy can DRESS
Francis we are splitting hairs here 😅
Just take either measurement already
The hem should be slightly wider than 2/3 the length of your shoes. I wear size 40, the shoe length is around 28.5cm, my hem is 21cm. If I took 19cm (which is 2/3 the shoe length), it would not open large enough due to ankle and leg.
A safe fornula is: Your shoe size EU minus 20 then add 1 or 2 cm. My case: 40-20+1 = 21cm. Works pretty well.
@@algosightwithnhatbui6262 Fair enough! Whatever works for you sir
As i explore a more refined style, I've found myself drawn more to a full cut rather than slim, which has been my go to for ankong time. As a muscular guy, slim fit can be trucky to pull off. Just found your channel so have some binging to do 😆
We’ve all come through the same experience indeed.

Always go with full cut. Classic look makes a classic man.
The tight and short modern suit reminds me unintentionally of the suit used in movies by the comic Norman Wisdom, who intentionally took a suit coat with a smaller size.
Quite an analogy 😅
I’ve loved this!! please can you make more of these kind of video’s ❤
Of course Harry. We air one tutorial and one podcast monthly
Thank you sir for this video and all you do for men's style.
With great pleasure sir 😁
We all need measurements of our 1) waistline where we actually wear our pants, 2) rise, the measurement from the center top rear waistline, down under the crotch, and up to the center top front waistline, 3) hips, level crossing the hip bones and over the widest part of the butt, and 4) each thigh, covering the widest part (and using the widest of the two). That's the "core" from which we can choose the leg taper.
That’s a good approach Mister Told You 😁
Welcome aboard
@@AskOkeyInc Your content actually confirmed what a good tailor told me: all dress pants start full because they have to fit our core, but too many bigger men don't accept their core size and try to follow the taper trends.
@@mrtoldyou5589 PERFECTLY WELL SAID Mr. Told You 💯
Your tailor is ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON!
Joseph these are all principles we espouse on here at AskOkey

Always Delightful to hear from you 🔥
I personally think wear whatever is comfortable and compliments your figure.
Good for you Capone
Wear whatever you like

This was one of the reasons why I was wearing more slim fit clothing, to give more illusion of height, but recently I’ve seen better arguments for a middle ground from shirts suits to pants it’s all about the silhouette
@@lecookie007 Slim fit makes you look “SMALLER” not taller
Excellent tutorial
thanks for this great video. So you're recommending in your example a 10-inch hem and a 12-inch knee, but what's the width at the upper leg for trousers like yours
ABSOLUTELY 💯
Those are the precise dimensions of my DRESS TROUSERS
Welcome aboard 🔥
Different strokes for different folks. As a 6'5 man, my body is very slim so I can sometimes get away with some slim dress pants. Though I have to be careful in picking them but I also like a straight leg as well. Body type is what it comes down to for me.
There is a reason most guys eventually want to dress like their grandfathers and great-grandfathers. These men wore classic, timeless, and elegant attire. While the skinny leg look can be sold to young people, they eventually move to wherever the trend tells them. Essentially, their "style" is disposable and fleeting. Classic dress attire never goes out of style.
@@raykusko9365 Very well said Ray 🙌🏾
You said it

Proff please make a slim fit trouser for yourself, and try to compare with with your full cut trousers. I think this way we will have much better understanding about this "Silhouette" that you've mentioned in the video.
I do agree that full cut trousers look WAY better 👌

Thank you Proff for another informative video! I have been replacing my slim trousers to more classic full cut trousers recently, and I have basically ditched belts for suspenders. But as the warmer months approaches, a question arised for me: is it acceptable to wear suspenders over short sleeved polos?

Thank you , love your style, will start dressinmg like you
In my opinion, suit looks good only when it's tailor made corresponding to a figure and emphasising strengths of the figure.
I’m not sure understand your logic but hey, wear as you wish

I have a question. I always hear that if you wear suspenders; don't wear a belt. I'm a retired Law Enforcement Officer. I often carry a sidearm even today. I try to carry a smaller weapon I'd possible. I still do personal protection from time and that requires a full size pistol (Colt 1911 and 2 extra magazines). This requires a wider ( 1 1/2" to 1 3/4") belt. I like suspenders with the belt to help distribute the weight of the additional gear. (Don't forget handcuffs a small flashlight. Thanks
Well Keith, that’s a good problem to have 😅

Hey Proff, I would be very interested in an episode about suspenders in combination with your AskOkey full cut trousers. Where should I been keen on?
Please elaborate Levi.
You mean a video on how to pair suspenders with trousers?
Indeed Proff, how to style suspenders with trousers as well as different models of trousers. For example fishtail trousers where the back top of the trousers are just a bit elevated or a just normal high waisted trousers with an even waistband. Where should I been keen in general and in button placement?

Brother, you are wearing it well.
There is a golden middle between full cut and skinny cut
Exactly. Both look rather silly. In my opinion, how Brian Sacawa of He Spoke Style gets his suits tailored is a good middle ground, if not leaning a little toward slim due to his slim build.
