@@psychott6 when it comes to scheming, I'm pretty sure Ayato shines a lot more than Ayaka, so she wouldn't pose him to much of a threat (but he probably will feel guilty for trying to separate her from her friend, but would deem it good for her) and about the abyss sibling thing, I'm pretty sure Ayato wouldn't go as far as to harm or kill the traveler and would probably just manipulate them into doing what he wants, in which case the abyss sibling wouldn't really give a fuck.

Ngl as a honkai player who's played genshin, he'd be so fucking dangerous if he's a villan. I mean just look at otto, he doesn't have that much potential and power than most of the heserrchers, but is still dangerous as fuck, mostly because of cunning he is.
Damn I just feel so bad for Ayato . . . he and Ayaka were both forced to grow up so fast, especially him, seeing as he had to take care of her. Ayato pretty much sacrificed his childhood to make sure the Kamisato clan stayed in power, and he's been forced to do some really shady stuff, including organizing the Shuumatsuban, to keep that power. Stuff that no one else will probably never know the extent of, not even us as the player. I just hope that he'll be able to relax and be happy for once now that the Vision Hunt Decree has been lifted because he deserves it so much and DAMMIT I'M CRYING OVER A FICTIONAL CHARACTER AGAIN.

Well it's kinda apple vs orange because Kokomi has to manage a whole island that is scarce in resources. That's not to underestimate Ayato as he managed to secure his clan position in the Yashiro commission but still, it's still just a commission
I like this. This AMV gives a good representation of Ayato's mentality --- his willingness, his manipulations and sharp wit. Going towards any lenght to eliminate all form of unbalance within Inazuma's political world. His ruthlessness --- he'll spill blood against any enemy that dares to stand against his goals. Anything to protect his nation's stability and dear family. And yet beneath that smile, you can see his vulnerable side -- his duty as clan leader cast a heavy toll on him, physically and mentally, and if he ever stumbles --- his mask will crack. And when everything is said and done. The elder Kamisato finally tears the mask from his self and step away from the darkness. Shredding all burdens aside, his human side blooms again. He allows himself to be Ayato. Smiling gently at his younger sister, spoiling Paimon with food and hanging out with the Traveller, walking amidst the warm sunlight of spring. Kamisato Ayato is a man of multiple façades, able to wear any mask thast fit him --- but nobody is able to see through _the real him._ His methods may be morally questionable and many may think that he is goes too far, but his goals are ultimatly noble. He is a good man. However, the loss of his parents, dealing with power-hungry figures and forced to throw away his freedom --- Ayato has learned from this trials, that noble actions alone can't change the tides of any situation.

@@moafighting1597 Unless you have some familiarity with Chinese "political dramas", you won't really understand his story quest. On the surface, he's saying that he just wants stability for Inazuma. This is level 1, and meant for political appearance. Level 2, which is for the audience, is the presentation that he hard reads Matsuura as being a moron that doesn't understand how politics works. It's a satisfying "I'm smarter than you" story where things kind of fall into place and Ayato is this incredible intellect who is just better than other people. However, level 3 involves the subtlety and backup plans. Ayato can't actually guarantee that Matsuura will follow what is essentially a bluff and call off the wedding, even with Tenryou involvement. But he has a backup. He tells Kamaji Kujou that in order for the plan to work, they will have to play the part of villains but he never reveals the Yashiro Commission doing anything at all. He convinces Kamaji to make a very public show of force and he knows exactly how this looks, especially given the current political climate. If the Kanjou Commission goes through with the wedding escorted by the Tenryou Commission, Ayato's backup is basically to destroy Kamaji politically by showing continued proof that the Kujous continue to be a power hungry military organization. This, combined with the Tenryou and Kanjou now having a lot of animosity and focusing on each other will place the Yashiro in a much stronger position to influence Inazuma politics. Ayato never needs to pay any political cost for any of this because every step is crafted for him to have plausible deniability with "I had no choice." He says "we" have to play the villains but he never actually does anything remotely risky. This whole backdrop is Ayato's real plan, and it's likely Matsuura actually knows, but there's literally nothing he can do, which is the point-and Ayato's true genius. He manipulates Kamaji into placing the Kanjou Commission into checkmate for him at Kamaji's own expense. He takes advantage of Kamaji's kindness and political naivete to create a position good for himself. A Lawful Neutral character would just allow the wedding to go through, because it doesn't actually influence stability all that much once you think about it in the context of all the information presented in the rest of the quest. Matsuura just wants to take power, which is mostly whatever. The argument that they're stronger with Chisato than without is pretty weak. Chisato is never really presented as a good political leader and she...isn't. If Matsuura is better, he could easily lead Kanjou better than she does. The real issue to Ayato is that he doesn't want Chisato to combine forces with Kamaji because that's bad for the Yashiro Commission. Regardless of her decreased influence after marrying out, she's still going to hold some sway with the Kanjou, and with the Tenryou being politically vulnerable, Ayato would prefer that political alliance not happen right now. So he weakens Chisato's position in Kanjou by presenting her marriage as mildly hostage in nature. He weakens Kamaji's position in Inazuma by presenting him as a military dictator in the mold of the last leader. I don't actually doubt that Ayato's lawful evil. The greatest trick that a lawful evil character can pull is to convince you that he's lawful neutral.
The man who can make Yae Miko reminds us "don't let that smile fool you, because no one knows what he's thinking" But according to the feeling when playing the plot, he is the type of person who will be kind to those who are grateful to him and will respond mercilessly to the person who harmed his family. I mean, they're actually a nice person, completely not a villain, doesn't has any mean intention, but has to do so for the better good. And yes, Ayato has this criteria:'D

I can imagine this dialogue with his EN voice. He sounds serious, yet there's a glimpse of sadness when he speaks about his sister --- and as well, a bit of stoical acceptance about his role as leader.
Absolutely amazing. It perfectly captures the cunningness of Ayato as well as the lengths he is willing to go to for Inazuma and his sister alike. But it also acutely shows his struggles with what he is doing sometimes as well as his troubled past - basically, that there’s a human behind all that brilliant scheming. And the editing, the art, the music… my god, it is incredibly well done. Hats off to you!
most players say his story quest is boring, but for me it's not. ayato in that story quest amazed me on how he handled the situation, neatly strategized.
Yeah, I've had a debate over Ayato's story quest. Bro said it was boring. But I liked it a lot bec it portrayed how he works on the background. And besides, a political figure can't just run around Inazuma during a problematic time.
To the point of practically BREAKING himself inside, he has had to ruthlessly manipulate or kill others in order to survive and protect himself & his sister. From kid to adult the pressure mounts, then the Traveler arrived and bright a welcome change. FINALLY Ayato can take a breath and his worries eased. A terrible policy that would doom him & his sister by taking their Vision was revoked and his sister now has a friend who has no other motives or loyalties to worry about. Such a person can also become his friend and he can RELAX now. Smile for REAL now. No Breaking!
And its true this guy mind is a mind of a super political power who is luckily on the good side. If he was a villain then the travellers story would have been ended right then and there

It's hinted at in the game but I feel like it gets buried there a bit, unless you sit in his char screen and click the same relevant voice lines over and over. AyaOtto, the man with Thousand Face would only reveal his true face and relax with Ayaka: His family and little sister whom he protect from the political clan. Ei/Raiden Shogun: Loyal to her. Thoma: His victim when it come to new food or drink. Aether/Lumine/Traveler with Paimon: Not a suspicious person with the Traveler love to disguise with a Fatui Mask and accompanied by a flying talking Emergency Food.
While he is loyal to the Shogun, I wouldn't say he'd relax and let the mask slip with her. They aren't friends, unlike his relationship with Thoma and the Traveler. To Ayato it would be another political "smile and nod" kind of interaction. He fulfills his duty as commissioner, but it's purely professional. Ei is friendly to the Traveler partly because Yae Miko sided with them, and Miko is her familiar who is looking out for her best interests. She also respects the Traveler's conviction/determination and strength in challenging her on two separate occasions and (mostly) holding their own, ultimately succeeding in shaking her ideals of Eternity and forcing her to look at her people rather than basically being selfish and focused on the past.
I genuinely believe that Ayato is more of a gray character and even if it's not Canon I won't stop to think that. I don't think he's evil but I genuinely see him as someone able to do anything for what he wants and I to protect the things and people he care about, even if that might hurt his sister (emotionally not physically), I genuinely see him as someone who would put himself and what he wants first but for the sake of the people he cares about. Ayaka is the one acting in the open, interacting with the people and pretty much the face of the Kamisato Clan. Everyone loves her, Ayato acts in the shadow so it's hard for me to think that he's not doing some shady bussiness behind his sister and Thoma's back. I know that it's not Canon (at least for now) and it most likely won't be but it makes Ayato character way more interesting than simply accepting his parents death and being all happy and cheerful. He was a kid when his father died and he had to take the role as leader of the Clan, the stress plus grief while being forced to be strong for Ayaka so that she could grief and get consoled by him can make him end up being either someone who now accepted that and swear to protect those he cares and in a more pure way or a more selfish way and I feel like the second fit better with his story, behavior and appearance even because there are already a lot of pure kind hearthed characters so I need a bit more of twisted characters even if they aren't bad, actually it's better because not all good people are 100% good people. In short, kinda like Ei wanting to protect and keep Inazuma the same but wrote better. Don't get me wrong, Ei character story isn't bad but it's badly written in my opinion. It makes sense that her Trauma caused that and the people of Inazuma to suffer because she was way too strict and protective in a way, however everyone simply forgave her and treated her as she was the only one suffering so much so her actions were justified. Now in more recents updates they are actually making people react better to Ei presence (by making them scared and unsure if they should approach her in the first place) but it still doesn't really make it better how they dealt with her at first. Everyone wasn't scared of her during her Story Quest (not the Archon Quest), they felt like it was a honor to see the Raiden Shogun and while it is after who knows how many years of her barely being seen they should have still have been made more scared/unsure than euphoric and accepting. Anyway, the point is that I definetely love this twisted good/"hero" version of Ayato and the balance of Ayaka being the face of the clan and the purest one while Ayato act in the shadows and is more shady etc. He would collaborate with bad guys and 100% betray them after he got what he wanted or even kill them then arrest whatever group of bad guys was there without leaving any clues of his connection to them and even if someone found something or suspected of him Ayato would 100% get rid of him and find a way to make it look like they just moved away or something because of some illegal stuff. Even Yae can't read him at all, and she's pretty much the same as Ayato however he seems to be smarter than her (confirmed by Yae herself) and I feel like he might be even smarter and more strategical than Kokomi because he's unpredictable/unable to read. Kokomi and Yae too are confirmed to share the same level of intelligence and understanding, so if Yae can't read Ayato then most likely that's impossible for Kokomi as well.

i feel like all the hydro characters have some sort of mask that they put on to conceal themselves? for example, childe is secretly part of the fatui, stuff with his delusion, etc xingqiu is secretly the author Zhenyu barbara is an idol and constantly has to have her perfect idol 'mask' on mona hides the fact that she is broke kokomi and her true identity and beliefs with her people and now ayato with his multiple facades makes me excited for what Fontaine will be lol

Granted we don't know the details, but it's hinted at both in game and in his character story that after their parents died people tried to take advantage of the Kamisato family and he was forced to step up and fight for their power and name. That kind of political scheming needs a level of Machiavellian intelligence, and Ayato is a very smart man. I mean, during his quest he basically tells someone that if someone won't shut up it's best to cut out their tongue. Plus he does mention that one of his hobbies is "watching people squirm" so I mean, the man's gotta be at least a little unhinged. Childe but with manners.

Love this!! Really depicts Ayato well + hints he was behind leading Traveller's steps to solve Inazuma's crisis, which did get resolved. Thats why cant dislike him although he's rly manipulating everyone cos he has good goals/ intentions in end + takes care of pple.

@@moafighting1597 Unless you have some familiarity with Chinese "political dramas", you won't really understand his story quest. On the surface, he's saying that he just wants stability for Inazuma. This is level 1, and meant for political appearance. Level 2, which is for the audience, is the presentation that he hard reads Matsuura as being a moron that doesn't understand how politics works. It's a satisfying "I'm smarter than you" story where things kind of fall into place and Ayato is this incredible intellect who is just better than other people. However, level 3 involves the subtlety and backup plans. Ayato can't actually guarantee that Matsuura will follow what is essentially a bluff and call off the wedding, even with Tenryou involvement. But he has a backup. He tells Kamaji Kujou that in order for the plan to work, they will have to play the part of villains but he never reveals the Yashiro Commission doing anything at all. He convinces Kamaji to make a very public show of force and he knows exactly how this looks, especially given the current political climate. If the Kanjou Commission goes through with the wedding escorted by the Tenryou Commission, Ayato's backup is basically to destroy Kamaji politically by showing continued proof that the Kujous continue to be a power hungry military organization. This, combined with the Tenryou and Kanjou now having a lot of animosity and focusing on each other will place the Yashiro in a much stronger position to influence Inazuma politics. Ayato never needs to pay any political cost for any of this because every step is crafted for him to have plausible deniability with "I had no choice." He says "we" have to play the villains but he never actually does anything remotely risky. This whole backdrop is Ayato's real plan, and it's likely Matsuura actually knows, but there's literally nothing he can do, which is the point-and Ayato's true genius. He manipulates Kamaji into placing the Kanjou Commission into checkmate for him at Kamaji's own expense. He takes advantage of Kamaji's kindness and political naivete to create a position good for himself. A Lawful Neutral character would just allow the wedding to go through, because it doesn't actually influence stability all that much once you think about it in the context of all the information presented in the rest of the quest. Matsuura just wants to take power, which is mostly whatever. The argument that they're stronger with Chisato than without is pretty weak. Chisato is never really presented as a good political leader and she...isn't. If Matsuura is better, he could easily lead Kanjou better than she does. The real issue to Ayato is that he doesn't want Chisato to combine forces with Kamaji because that's bad for the Yashiro Commission. Regardless of her decreased influence after marrying out, she's still going to hold some sway with the Kanjou, and with the Tenryou being politically vulnerable, Ayato would prefer that political alliance not happen right now. So he weakens Chisato's position in Kanjou by presenting her marriage as mildly hostage in nature. He weakens Kamaji's position in Inazuma by presenting him as a military dictator in the mold of the last leader. I don't actually doubt that Ayato's lawful evil. The greatest trick that a lawful evil character can pull is to convince you that he's lawful neutral.

But it also acutely shows his struggles with what he is doing sometimes as well as his troubled past - basically, that there’s a human behind all that brilliant scheming.

Yeah, I've had a debate over Ayato's story quest. Bro said it was boring. But I liked it a lot bec it portrayed how he works on the background. And besides, a political figure can't just run around Inazuma during a problematic time.

Same most my friends who play genshin found it boring but to me it was one of the most intriguing and refreshing one.
To the point of practically BREAKING himself inside, he has had to ruthlessly manipulate or kill others in order to survive and protect himself & his sister. From kid to adult the pressure mounts, then the Traveler arrived and bright a welcome change. FINALLY Ayato can take a breath and his worries eased. A terrible policy that would doom him & his sister by taking their Vision was revoked and his sister now has a friend who has no other motives or loyalties to worry about. Such a person can also become his friend and he can RELAX now. Smile for REAL now. No Breaking!
He also has Itto but he lacks the same high status the traveller.

While he is loyal to the Shogun, I wouldn't say he'd relax and let the mask slip with her. They aren't friends, unlike his relationship with Thoma and the Traveler. To Ayato it would be another political "smile and nod" kind of interaction. He fulfills his duty as commissioner, but it's purely professional.
Ei is friendly to the Traveler partly because Yae Miko sided with them, and Miko is her familiar who is looking out for her best interests. She also respects the Traveler's conviction/determination and strength in challenging her on two separate occasions and (mostly) holding their own, ultimately succeeding in shaking her ideals of Eternity and forcing her to look at her people rather than basically being selfish and focused on the past.
I genuinely believe that Ayato is more of a gray character and even if it's not Canon I won't stop to think that.
I don't think he's evil but I genuinely see him as someone able to do anything for what he wants and I to protect the things and people he care about, even if that might hurt his sister (emotionally not physically), I genuinely see him as someone who would put himself and what he wants first but for the sake of the people he cares about.
Ayaka is the one acting in the open, interacting with the people and pretty much the face of the Kamisato Clan.
Everyone loves her, Ayato acts in the shadow so it's hard for me to think that he's not doing some shady bussiness behind his sister and Thoma's back.
I know that it's not Canon (at least for now) and it most likely won't be but it makes Ayato character way more interesting than simply accepting his parents death and being all happy and cheerful.
He was a kid when his father died and he had to take the role as leader of the Clan, the stress plus grief while being forced to be strong for Ayaka so that she could grief and get consoled by him can make him end up being either someone who now accepted that and swear to protect those he cares and in a more pure way or a more selfish way and I feel like the second fit better with his story, behavior and appearance even because there are already a lot of pure kind hearthed characters so I need a bit more of twisted characters even if they aren't bad, actually it's better because not all good people are 100% good people.
In short, kinda like Ei wanting to protect and keep Inazuma the same but wrote better.
Don't get me wrong, Ei character story isn't bad but it's badly written in my opinion.
It makes sense that her Trauma caused that and the people of Inazuma to suffer because she was way too strict and protective in a way, however everyone simply forgave her and treated her as she was the only one suffering so much so her actions were justified.
Now in more recents updates they are actually making people react better to Ei presence (by making them scared and unsure if they should approach her in the first place) but it still doesn't really make it better how they dealt with her at first.
Everyone wasn't scared of her during her Story Quest (not the Archon Quest), they felt like it was a honor to see the Raiden Shogun and while it is after who knows how many years of her barely being seen they should have still have been made more scared/unsure than euphoric and accepting.
Anyway, the point is that I definetely love this twisted good/"hero" version of Ayato and the balance of Ayaka being the face of the clan and the purest one while Ayato act in the shadows and is more shady etc.
He would collaborate with bad guys and 100% betray them after he got what he wanted or even kill them then arrest whatever group of bad guys was there without leaving any clues of his connection to them and even if someone found something or suspected of him Ayato would 100% get rid of him and find a way to make it look like they just moved away or something because of some illegal stuff.
Even Yae can't read him at all, and she's pretty much the same as Ayato however he seems to be smarter than her (confirmed by Yae herself) and I feel like he might be even smarter and more strategical than Kokomi because he's unpredictable/unable to read.
Kokomi and Yae too are confirmed to share the same level of intelligence and understanding, so if Yae can't read Ayato then most likely that's impossible for Kokomi as well.

Granted we don't know the details, but it's hinted at both in game and in his character story that after their parents died people tried to take advantage of the Kamisato family and he was forced to step up and fight for their power and name. That kind of political scheming needs a level of Machiavellian intelligence, and Ayato is a very smart man. I mean, during his quest he basically tells someone that if someone won't shut up it's best to cut out their tongue.
Plus he does mention that one of his hobbies is "watching people squirm" so I mean, the man's gotta be at least a little unhinged. Childe but with manners.
