In 1995 Becker was already in great shape but against Sampras not in the believing of winning. Except of Stuttgart in 1996 he lost all big finals. Hannover was very close and unlucky. Maybe Becker‘s best match ever. In this match here, you see after the first 5 minutes he was blocked and have never thought that he would win it. Same against Agassi in the semifinals of the US Open in 1995.

Becker Agassi US Open Semi 1995 was a classic. And Becker beat Agassi in Wimbledon Semis 95 and probably would’ve beat Agassi in Australian Ipen Final of 96 had Agassi not lost to Chang in semis

Becker post 1992 was never quite the same player that he had been from 1984 - 1991.
He has admitted this in interviews in the last 12 years or so.
Sampras got lucky with the independent decline of Edberg and Becker after 1992-1993.
However, if you look at the matches that Becker had with Pete in the 1990-1991 seasons(when Becker was still operating at his absolute peak)..........he gave Sampras a few lessons in power tennis.
Ofcourse.....in 1990-1991, Sampras was still fine tuning his own game.
But make no mistake, Sampras was up there as one of the best players in the world in the late 80s and early 90s(as evidenced by his US Open win in 1990).It's just that he has Lendl,Becker and Edberg in front of him.

I always felt Edberg troubled Sampras more than Becker did. Sampras was an improved version of Becker. Becker had a great game but was simply too erratic to trouble Sampras or even Agassi. No wonder Becker's head-to-head against both Sampras and Agassi in Grand Slams or really important Finals is so one-sided.
Becker was a slow-starter, and would have "off" service games every now and then. While this tendency didn't hurt him much against his era greats (like Lendl, Wilander, Edberg) against whom Becker could often claw back from behind, this lazy tendency always proved very costly for Becker against his next-era greats like Sampras and Agassi.
