First bike; same advice I’d offer to any beginner; training, training, training! One on one track-day coaching, with a strong emphasis on street survival. Build your street-smarts first. Build your bike handling skills with plenty of seat time on small displacement dirt bikes. Then commit yourself to cementing those survival skills for the next 18-24 months. Seriously, find a mentor/coach with proven abilities and listen up. The first 2 years on the street will make or break the rest of your riding career. Building safe practices is actually Fun, so enjoy it!
My first bike was an 04 yamaha vmax. My advice is just based on personal experience. Respect the power these bikes put down and ride like every vehicle around you is going to try and kill you. Vehicle in front of you? Anticipate they're going to slam on their brakes. Next to you? That they're going to change lanes into you. Waiting to pull out? That they're going to pull out in front of you. Always have a plan of what you're going to do defensively in regard to the vehicles around you and as long as you aren't being reckless, you'll be fine. Riding is dangerous enough because of other vehicles and road conditions, no need to contribute to it.
I think it was super rich to account for the extra air at the speeds it will be ridden at in the higher gear. Kawasaki claims an extra 10 hp methinks... I hope it isn't to lean in a real world scenario at this speeds now. I enjoy watching your channel! I can't say anything, as my first bike at age 19 was also a ZX-14. Great machines.
I agree. The tune should account for increasing air pressure as the bike’s speed increases. Kawi’s engineering team knows the math for that whereas the average tuner is not likely to have a handle on fluid dynamics.
I used to think this. However, I have a wideband sensor and gauge on my 2009 ZX14. The stock map is super rich at any speed. There is an air pressure sensor in the airbox the measures airflow and the ecu adjusts. Even when tuned at 13:1 , the ecu always adjusts. The worst is the crusing speeds and idle, stock map is 12:1, this is extremely rich (even for wot that is too rich)
Just FYI on why the fueling goes so rich at the top of the RPM band. Kawasaki tuned it this way to keep the factory catalytic converters from getting too hot and destroying themselves. In case anyone was curious. This info specific to the 2008-2011 bikes.
@@MrJayjay0420 Mind me for a small correction: in the airbox there's an air temperature sensor; on the left (#1) throttle body there's an air pressure sensor, for reading air intake air pressure; on the left side under the pillion seat, there's a 2nd air pressure sensor, this one exactly the same part as the latter but for reading atmospheric pressure.
