    I have received many requests that asked if the NTH-100 were good for gaming. The simple answer is YES!!!
    Do keep in mind that I mostly play randomly now on a PS4 Pro so I am not a hardcore gamer. I play mostly sim racing and sports games.

    • @NotTheOnlyMattAround

      I was pleasantly surprised by this as well. When the mail dropped these off, I was playing a bit of Bloodborne on the PS4, so I hooked these up for a few minutes of gameplay. "Immersive" is a quality that can be hard to nail down, but that was the only word that kept popping into my head the thirty minutes or so I gamed with them. I originally intended to use them just for monitoring, but they're surprisingly good for general use.

      Nice to hear a good review about an affordable headphone. Made me think of all the complaints I had tonight with comfort using other brands, and if you can wear these as long as necessary and still get extremely high quality audio, it's like a match made in heaven. I have $500 headphones that are barely wearable because of design, so it's nice to know these are out there.

    Thanks for this excellent review. Having watched a number of reviews such as yours and Z Reviews I have just ordered a pair on Amazon for £129 and even spent another £24 on a 2 metre long bright orange cable that Rode make for them just because orange is my favourite colour and I am easily parted with my money. They will add to my growing collection of headphones that currently consist of the excellent Austrian Audio Hi-X15, Audio Quest Night Hawk Carbons, AKG K712s, Status SM-CB1, Master and Dynamic (Leica 0.95) edition and a pair of One Odio headphones. Everyone I know thinks that I have lost my mind but I just love these things. No pair sound the same and I listen to so many different types of music that it is simply enjoyable to match certain headphones to certain types of music. Keep up the excellent reviews and you have just gained a new subscriber.

    Your review is spot on. I’ve had my Rode NTH-100 headphones for 4 days now and have hardly taken them off. I’ve used them with my phone, my TV, my Luxman, and my Tascam SS recorder. In all cases the NTH-100 is a pleasure and not at all fussy about their driving amp. The ‘phones are everything you said they are 👍. Now I have some remastering to do (it’s concert recording season) after suffering with my shrill, bleached (but great bass) Sony MDR-7506 monitoring headphones.

      @@TheHonestAudiophile they came in and I’m mixed on them. While I like the fit and finish of them, there’s something lacking to me when it comes to their treble, or a lack thereof. A lot of music I listen to has good drums in the mix and that being defined cymbal hits. The cymbals don’t have the same attack and presence that in would know them to have (I had similar gripes with the blessing 2). The bass seems clear and well defined, and the mids are present.

    I was waiting for the honest audiophile review after seeing some hype reviews. After I saw this I bought a pair haha. I agree with your review. I have an Audeze LCD-X and a neve RNHP for my reference phones. Needed closed monitors and practical every day cans. I like these a lot simply plugged into my phone. Seriously impressive plugged into low powered sources. They actually sound slightly hard in the midbass on the rnhp, but smooth out on low power sources. They may be compensated/tuned to sound right with low powered sources somehow. I think they're brilliant.

      @@TheHonestAudiophile I've just tried plugging that cable hole with a finger and it does actually make a difference for me, a bit of sub-bass goes away in that cup when that hole is completely covered. I've noticed some bass wonkiness before I started using the plug based on the fit on the head (pressing them in at the bottom, increases the sub-bass a little bit for me), I use the cable on the left and the right cup seamed to have more sub-bass sometimes based on the fit. So my suggestion would be to actually use the plug provided (plus it will probably improve the sound leakage as my guess, based on my findings right now, is that there is a vent in the cable wholes)

    I wish that the same people who developed the hardware for this headphone would collaborate with Hifiman, Sennheiser or master and dynamic, especially with these nice features like adequate padding and comfort, and the firmly adjustable posts. It seems like the people making the best hardware are charging a lot less, while the ones making the best drivers are charging a fortune for painful experiences. Does no one like us work at these places? I was wearing M&D's tonight and they have no room for ears at all, but the sound is great. Hifiman is the best for me, but still unbelievably spotty quality control considering how great the headphones are. If we could combine these things, and the quality speakers with tozo - level features for TWS, it would be quite a world.

    Thank you for your review. You said their frequency response is very balanced but I have seen a frequency sweep of the 100s and yes they are slightly bumped in the mid-bass which might cause that to mask their lower bass region. Also, they measured to have reduced output in the lower midrange but then had a large bump increase up in the upper midrange. They also rolled off earlier in the treble than is normally seen on good headphones. I must ask if these characteristics were not audible when listening? I do understand the Harman Curve but these appear to have exaggerated even that curve which is already questionably not really accurate. I haven't heard them but what I have seen it just appears they are not what an accurate headphone should be and that disappoints me from a professional microphone company. Thoughts?

      The Rode NTH-100 roast theK371 in every category.
      K371 are not even remotely close to natural, neutral or accurate especially for a monitor.

    You like these so much. I was looking for a budget planar headphones. But you gave these very good rating and think it's better than any sub 200 HiFiman headphones.
    I was thinking of getting HiFiman 400i 2020 but now I don't know. Please help me make up my mind. Why should I get these even though it's not planar?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Год назад +1

      The Hifiman are open back and the Rode are closed back so isolation of sound is one thing to consider. Tone and timbre is more accurate on the Rode. The detail retrieval is similar but resolution is better on the Rode. In my opinion the Rode sounds more natural in presentation. The Hifiman have a wider stage but the Rode are deeper and have more accurate image placement. The Rode are easier to drive. The Rode are my pick but it comes down to your preference.

    Wow, you really covered an impressive budget set of OEMs. My main question coming away from this video is for a neutral headphone how well do they handle power/respond to being pushed hard with EQs or bass heavy/noise heavy/busier tracks? I have a couple pairs of decent neutral monitors but each dislikes being pushed in one way or another ie (diaphragm crinkle on the dynamics or bass bottoming out at high volume on the planars). If these can take some punishment and still impress I might need a pair.

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  2 года назад +1

      I don't use EQ when listening to music on my desktop setup. But I do use some EQ when monitoring and the NTH-100 responded well but I didn't push them excessively. I find that the NTH-100 are well controlled and don't bog down in busier tracks.

    • @RafiGish
      @RafiGish 2 года назад

      These cans are NOT neutral though, there's a mid-bass overemphasis which is actually quite noticable (with electric bass guitars for example). There's a short mention of the boost in this vid starting at around 11:15 ruclips.net/video/Wc9hZ6x6zaI/видео.html , but gets neglected in the rest of the vid by mr Honest (he did warn us about his bias when it comes to Rode at the beginning).
      The AKG K361, those have neutral tonality, and are cheap.
      But... if we start comparing with the K361, the NTH-100 has better resolution, and a much better build quality to battle the K361's.

    How does compare to, say M50X. What I might like in Röde is Alcantara pads. The problem with M50X is comfort, pealing fake leather from pads and headband, squicky frame, rather claustrophobic soundstage. So how does Röde fares vs M50X, Shure 840, AKG K371, and DT 700X, DT 770

      I had Audio Technica ATH M20X many years ago and it was one of the worst products I have ever used in my life, zero comfort and the sound is nothing to talk about, not sure about ATH M50X. Never went back to Audio Technica after that. AKG is far far better

    • @TheHonestAudiophile

      Haven't heard the majority of those but for brief moments. I am unable to provide fair comparisons to M50x, 840, 770 or 77x.
      BUT I did review the K371: ruclips.net/video/35oKUP8-SwA/видео.html
      The Rode smokes the K371 in every way possible as a monitor, no competition.

      I own everyone of the headphones you mentioned except the DT700, the shure 840 has the best balanced sound but is a bit heavy and not very comfortable the AKG next best but weak build, then the DT770, but bass bloted and very high treble, M50X is very narrowed sound, I'd try a HD600 or AKG 612 pro, I've ordered the Rode from all reports looks like a winner for the $$$.
