A note about durability - there are reports of the headbands cracking within a year. Hopefully this is something Rode can address.

My experience with Rode support has been nothing short of outstanding. We have sent NTG microphones back for repair, fully expecting a repair bill, and they've either repaired with no cost or straight up just sent us a new mic, no questions asked - both times with a 2-week turnaround (though we are in Australia and not overseas). They are just brilliant. I'll buy from Rode before anyone else simply because their support is amazing.

Its covered under warranty. Sadly this is a common issue with alot of headphones not just Rodes. Some companies actually design it in intentionally as planned obsolescence.

Your impressions of this headphone match mine exactly. Thanks for another great review. And I totally agree with you that Rode is really onto something with the design and build quality of the NTH-100. I had them for a couple days and it didn't take long for me to realize that since I already have and enjoy AKG's K371, I don't really need these as well. It's a pity that the K371 isn't built nearly as well as these or that the NTH-100 doesn't sound nearly as good as the AKGs. If someone takes the best of both worlds and combines them in a new closed-back, they've got an instant hit!

  • @daniannaci3258

In my opinion you are pretty much spot on with your review, particularly concerning sound quality. They don’t sound bad being the Rode’s having nothing really wrong, nor anything really right (except for comfort). Certainly they can’t hold a candle in any respect to my home speakers, but I need an isolation headphone for location recording that I can stand wearing for more than 15 minutes. So I’m keeping my pair. The Rode NTH-100 is the epitome of pleasant inoffensiveness. They win by default.

Really nice tip on the felt removal, love the sound with them now quite a bit more. I mostly bought them out of curiosity and love a lot of the interesting stuff they did with the build. It's solidified me on the need for Alcantara padding on everything. Need more headphones aside from Meze and now Rode doing it.

I received my generic inner foams similar to sennheiser hd6xx/600/650 inner foams and it calmed the shout just enough to make it sound refined without being muffled like the stock thick felt. I got this idea right away because the naked driver without any damping reminded me of the extra shout the senns get when removing the front foam. All in all a success. Sound and build combined, This is my favorite closed headphone in this pricerange now.

Maybe the voicing is deliberate.. Mixing using the NTH-100s help me work the mid and the top because of its voicing, so that when I compare to my Grado SR225e's mixes it sounds so much more defined and balanced. Even the Grado's agree : )

@@TheHEADPHONEShow Very cool to hear from you! I have been liking a single layer of 2 ply toilet paper cut to size in place of the thick felt. I dont have a rig to measure with but I'm sure curious what it would be. It seems to have take away the sibilance or hotness that was there without docking clarity. Again not a golden ear like you but I too noticed the veil when I got them and dont feel like its there now. I wonder if there is any mod that could turn the sub bass up just a touch. *update, my set cracked in the adjustment mechanism as well after 5 mo of only sitting on my head or the headphone hook. can't recommend due to this.
Mine doesn't sound quite as dead in the air regions as the graphs suggest, I don't know if it's unit variation or just my ears. It also is not as boomy as something like an hd 599, and since it's a gradual clockwise tilt in the mids and not a contoured midbass hump I wouldn't say it's bass dominated at all. In terms of technical performance I find it matches at least the k361 and bests it in imaging, although that's not really a high bar. For my ears the harman over-ear target is way too sharp in the mid treble so the nth100 is more to my preference. It's also free of the treble peaks that other closed backs have at this price point.

I got the K361 for a steal and as a longterm M50X user I can confirm it’s vastly more comfortable and as good or in some cases better sounding, but not built as well in a nerveracking way. A friend had the Rodes and we both are more taken with them than Andrew, but the sound isn’t as much better than the AKGs as price and aesthetic would suggest. They do look indestructible though and I’d like that peace of mind. For editing while fighting off thugs they would be top 1, though M50X, the iron man red edition no less, have served well in combat.

How do they fair to the Focal listen pro? I’m currently in the market for a work from home headphones. The thing is I’m still not decided on what kind of headphones. Since i sit and stare at my computer screen for 10-12 hours a day I need something light and comfortable, good breathability would be a huge bonus. So that kind of shift us to open back design, HOWEVER working from home and living in an apartment I have to deal with some noises. Like a drilling neighbour or a barking dog or neighbour kids ogolony around.
I currently own the B&O H6 2nd gen. Which i bought a few years ago to be my travel/ on the go set. But then mu original Fidelio x1 died. So I’ve been using it with some EQ and BOOM 3D dsp and eq on my MacBook Pro. They sound great, they look great, are light and comfy. However my ears are getting swetty and hot eventually. As the sheepskin leather albeit very soft is not super breathable.
Fidelio’s were giving me neck pains as I often lean over the desk to sketch something ( I’m an illustrator and a concept artist ).
So ideally I’m looking for an improvement in comfort ( breathabilty / less hot during long sessions )
I did get Devialet Gemini as an ANC earbud as well as B&O EQ. But I seriously cannot last more than 2-3 hours in those , but I use them ( mainly Devialet for their awesome ANC when that is needed)
I was considering Focal Bathys as an end game all in one solution, but since I have an ANC setup not sure that’s a good idea. Especially since the bterry will die eventually.
So all that being said, am I destined to go with a Classic like HD600/650 ( I’m from Europe, No drop stuff for me ). Or would you guys suggest something else.
I could Afford Focal Utopia but I don’t believe that going over certain bracket is worth it. I’d like to stay under 1000 the cheaper the better. As being reasonable and responsible adult I have other Man toys to get as well ….😅
I listen mostly to Classic rock, bossa nova, chilly asian Lo Fi while working. Imagine Dire strata for example. But I’d like them to be an all roumder if possible

Oh and the headphones to look good would be a huge bonus. I’m a sucker for good designs being an artist an all ;)
P.S No beyerynamic suggestions please, not my rade sonically nie design wise. Focal Elegia/ Elear or those rode or meze designs speak to me.

Do you think there are unit variation, my pair dosent sound as you describe, saying that I'm also not sure I like their tonal quality, maybe it's the foam insert isn't being produced to a constant spec, thinking on sending these back, is the akg 361/371 (build excluded) a better entry cost critical listening headphone without EQ do you think, or anyone else please feel free to answer if you have heard all 3. I am after a closed back entry level neutral headphone to compliment my other couple of closed backs which are colored and I love them for it

They sound so informative, revealing and the soundstage is immense. I have 20 headphones including buds, iems, Sennheiser, AKG, M4U, Grado and Sony and these are the most involving and enjoyably musical that I own. Your review makes no sense whatsoever. It's just you..

I used to hate these cans for their weird frequency response and sound reproduction, but it turns out they can be EQ'ed with Sonarworks Reference to sound like a great pair of neutral cans with good resolution, natural mids, clear highs and fast (yet not very detailed) bass. Yet they're mediocre at best out of the box.

I bought my NTH100 and they broke in 3 days since I bought them...I'm a bit confused ...I agree they have really good sound, but I wouldn't say it's well built. I reseached and noticed that the clips keep breaking, there are lots of complains about it ...Built quality is what it s lacking. I l iked your video, but I dont agree. I dont think the built quality is outstanding at all

Is the mod easily reversible? Anyone? I was willing to try, but wanted to know if it's possible/ easy to put the original foam back in place. I have some different density foams here and wanted to play with them to see how it turned out. But always with the possibility to return to the og.

It's kind of a deep subject, and if you're interested we cover it in this video here: ruclips.net/video/LrIoNMeo_GI/видео.html
But in general, it all comes down to individual head-related transfer functions (HRTF), and the measurement rig has one as well.

I bought the NTH-100 and immediately returned them. These are amp dependent. They sound oK with my Topping A50s amp. But they sounded distorted with my class A Keces E40 amp, like they couldn't keep up with the signal. That amp drives my Sundara headphones perfectly.
