We've had so many request for this video and are really happy to bring you Then vs. Now on My Little Pony! What would you like us to compare next? - Jeremy
@scaredmilk im holding off S9, Rainbow Road special, and the extra stuff in the Friendship is Forever shorts. Until some unknown time. I only knew about necromancer man from spoilers.
I watched midnight castle even though I am a gen 4 fan. The concept was awesome and had an excellent villian. But I thought it needed more time to fulfill it's true potential. For instance, I felt the scene where the human girl first met the ponies happened to quickly and she just accepted the idea of talking ponies too quickly.
Yes! They actually went on real adventures and honestly it wasn't too sugarcoated (something this current generation is used to) plus, the characters did have their own personality, the guy in this video was completely biased.
I definitely like Friendship is Magic more, and here’s why: 1. Colorful animation 2. Relatable characters 3. Great voice-acting 4. Beautiful storyline 5. Lessons about friendship and more 6. Amazingly orchestrated songs and music
I actually like the early 2000's one more. I think it's just cause it's the ones I played with and watched more. I did however watch some Gen 1 stuff then too. I liked the characters more then. My personal favorites are Lickety-Split and Minty
Some fans of the show go too far, but that shouldn't take away from how well-done this show is. It is probably one of the best children's show I've ever seen. And it just always makes me smile.
Thanks so much for this video. MLP has a rich history for fans to explore. If you ever get the chance could you do a video comparing the MLP 1986 film to the 2017 movie? Also any chance of doing videos about the villains? Discord is my fave from the current MLP series but there were some interesting villains in the older version that the 1986 film is based off. Anyway thanks again for doing this video. Had a lot of fun watching and thinking about how far this franchise has come.
Ami Sabanta The dark blue alicorn that controls the moon and nighttime, Celestia's sister, and in the first episode ever that turns evil and is dubbed Nightmare Moon
IWasAPepper I unfortunately remember that show. That show was one of the main reasons why I didn’t immediately get into My Little Pony Friendship is Magic because I thought it was going to be the same. But once I found out that Lauren Faust created it and she brought with her a lot of people who worked for Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends and my personal favorite The Powerpuff Girls I gave it a try and I have been watching it since November of 2014.
I grew up with the 1980's MLP since we had those on VHS. I will forever associate MLP with the original that I love. FIM is good and more familiar to others my age but the GEN1-3 has got my heart. The scarier episodes are what I'd watch all the time. And I can't even watch horror movies. I don't know, I just really prefer the older MLP.
R.I.P mlp. We will all miss u. I can’t believe it’s over, you’ve brought memories, happiness and excitement. You’ve gone strong for 9 years (I think). This fandom really appreciated your existence from the beginning. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Goodbye everypony, it’s been real.
I also love that one of the ones shown ALL THE TIME in the clips used here is one I had (and still do!)--Galaxy! The sparkle-eyed pony. I kept going "HEY I KNOW THAT ONE" the whole time. XD
@@nevergatoride7850 The old isn't creepy. It's just more realistic while the newer keeps changing in art style and looks like there is just a plastic pony on screen . In my opinion, it's just isn't as good as it's original showing. One, they never change the message of the show, every episode is the same lesson.
Boys watched MLP even back during the 1986 version and it's sequals. My older brother watched it with me and other boys in school also watched in. The 'nightmare fuel' villians made it a cool fantasy show.
@Clare Gundersen "I agree! The new villains are so underdeveloped and cheesy" Wow.. I didn't know it is possible to miss point so much 0_0 "Also, the original had the dark tones and painting, creating a more realistic, fantasy-like effect" I'm not sure you understand words "fantasy" and "realism". Dark as you say "tones" were typical for old style animation. It is not why people like that show as even Yogi Bear could be described that way, and I despise Hannah Barbera. It is because ponies did work with the demon and Spike was originally a minion in they first movie (what shouldn't be surprise as it was made by Marvel). That those things are still relevant after all those years is the reason why people like G4 again, despite modern style of animation. "while the new ones look like bright, cartoony, happy-go-lucky drawings an 8 year old could make" Because context is what really is relevant. Show style is typical for modern animation and design was deliberately made to be easy to replicate. Do you think why there is so many fan-art? That is by design.
Lol there are so many things wrong with this video! First of all, the 1980's ponies were NOT identical, they had compelling personalities which stood out among them, while the toys were molded differently as time went on. Sitting, running, prancing, head up, head down, and many more poses were incorporated into making the toys interesting, which is why MLP was a hit. Also, what's up with all the other MLP gens? Are they simply not good enough to be spoken of in the video? I get that MLP FIM is a great series, but all of the praise that it gets, completely debunking the rest of the franchise seems ridiculous to me! And by the way, Rainbow Dash is a DIRECT INCARNATION of the previous generation pony of the SAME NAME! Fluttershy is also a Generation 3 pony of the same name! Instead of getting an accurate rundown of the MLP series, we got a MLP FIM praise video! Clearly, I am disappointed, since I believe the video is a bit misleading. I just hope that the franchise keeps on growing while new fans still appreciate the classics.
Clare Gundersen Haha! Wow! I never thought anyone could put that into words! It took me years to get used to the current Gen! I felt very disconnected to it, specially because the ponies lacked realistic equine features, such as hooves, snouts, nostrils, muscles, ears, and overall shape! Their bug eyes remind me more of Power Puff Girls than of actual horses!

I think there is a difference between the ponies in the toy brand and the G1 TV show. While all the toy ponies may have been individually branded, it seemed that the TV show kept the personalities to a minimum, so it was hard to tell them apart. Whether or not you like the old designs better is fine, it's all subjective, I do find that the characters in FIM are a lot more complex because they're not only given individual backgrounds and stories, but also talents, passions, amibitions, flaws and development. It embraces the original concept of making them feel all like actual characters you can relate to.
Yeah...he literally showed just the VERY FIRST ponies for the "they all had the same pose" line. Right now on my desk, I've got (digs into box at random) a Twice-as-Fancy pony named Merriweather who has her head turned cockily to one side and a kind of snarky expression with one hoof raised, and two twins with their own individual poses and head-tilts despite also being TINY. And those are just the first three examples I pulled out of my old collection. (The Twice-as-Fancy ponies have their cutie marks _all over_ . Can you even IMAGINE what that would mean in the new show's lore? Everybody would be like AAAA YOU'VE BEEN CURSED! QUICK GET THE ANTIDOTE! ) I don't remember _as much_ personality on the ponies in the oldschool cartoon...but that's not to say I remember NONE. For example, one episode ended with Skyflier for some reason suddenly channeling Mr. Spock. XD (She responded to "And they all rode off into the sunset." with "It is illogical to begin a long journey just as the sun is setting!") This especially cracked me up 'cos I HAD Skyflier, and I'd also given her a headcanon personality, but...mine was completely different! :P
This, my dear persons from the internet, is what I call: Honoring the new by giving it a chance and face that we are actually not the main targeted group of this series at all.
I remember watching the older versions as a child and being a big fan, so one time I was in a store and saw a newer mpl magazine and was sooooo confused. Like "who tf are these?????" And the style was different and everything
My favorite pony has to be Pinkie Pie her randomness just makes me happy. Though i would like to point out a slight mistake when talking about Twilight as a Princess but using an image of her old unicorn form rather than her current alicorn one.
I know she's controversial, a fact that you hinted at in this very video, but my favorite pony is Starlight Glimmer. I just find her very relatable and adorable. And she had such good chemistry with Trixie as well!
She definitely do like Trixie, after all she would call her a sister in future. But before that they and her half-brother Sunburst need back in time on end of the show to tie all loose ends.
It's actually more telling that he is "grown up" physically and still says such childish things. Were he a child, it would be expected. ZackAttack, you do you. I'm a 32 year old woman, and my seven year old son, my 33 year old boyfriend, and I all love the show.
Looks like I will be the first to say this video show little to no knowledge about gen1. Yes they had a market to sell toys. I may not have grown up in the 80s but, that does not mean there weren't significant roles that each pony played. They showed a great deal of what friendship is capable of and, that working together despite the odds could work. Not only that Gen3 and 3.5 had various shows and movies to show how lying was bad, to always be responsible and, (no offense to the new show) had a plot that wasn't so obvious that people wouldn't already call out I know what's coming in 5 minutes of the show starting. Sorry I like the new show but, not as much as its older counter parts. Actually in Gen3 Spike shows us a map of the pony kingdoms revealing that Rarity a rare pink unicorn is the princess of the crystal kingdom. I grew up off of each generation and, know each video and, tv show they put out was to teach people how to work together and, take care of one another as friends should. Do some more research before you say it is to dark because, I won't hesitate saying my kid isn't allowed to watch mind numbing television like pickle and peanut, regular show, gumball or and, of the heavily mundane inappropriate shows for children.
I can understand wanting your kids to watch decent and meaningful cartoons, and share your feelings towards Pickle and Peanut and other shows such as the reboot of Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls, but there are some really great elements to Gumball and Regular Show. The primary demographic of the shows is meant to be a bit older, but even with that being the case there is an element of originality and creativeness with not just character designs but animation as well. The older children get the less interested they're bound to be in shows rated TV-Y, just saying. As for your opinion regarding the G1 mlp, I agree there was a lack of research done there, but g4 has gone through censorship on some of its episodes due to parents being concerned that the characters are too offensive. I didn't grow up in the 80's either, but I don't think g1 went through too much censorship when it came to its characters. Characters were certainly far more terrifying in g1 in my opinion and character designs were different then.
MLP FIM doesn't have the inappropriate or mind numbing problems you mentioned. Plus it already has ponies in it so you should probably try to get your kid to watch it.
If so she was based on G1 Firefly and only look like G3 Rainbow Dash. This same way G4 Twilight was in fact based on G3 Wisteria, when G4 Starlight Glimmer is G1 Twilight.
The egghead thing was probably intended to be a joke. It reminds me of my friends. If we’re gonna say something about someone in our group, we’re gonna say it to their face.
I'm not a brony! ( just wanted to make this clear, no offense to any brony out there) I have a little sister and she loves this show! She makes me watch this with her all the time!! She's super addicted to this show!! Since my sister made me watch this show.. it got stuck in my head... so I kind of like it, since I've watched it a lot.... so you can say I'm a fan of the show! ( I'm not calling myself a brony, because that word just seems weird to me. I'm calling myself a person who likes the show because it got stuck in my head) my favorite is twilight sparkles! Ok awesome video, love you ChannelFred, bye!! ( just curious this was uploaded yesterday but then taken down, just curious) bye!
I feel exactly the same way besides the fact that I started watching it because I wanted to see how bad it was. Twilight is also my favorite because she is almost exactly the same as Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls.
Basing Original 80's My Little Pony world building off the cartoon is a bit of a mistake. Considering the aspect of UK comics in the 80's that were not sold in the USA, there was more going on with MLP back in the 80's than what FIM centered fans imagine. You also are not considering the backcard story each individual My Little Pony was sold with, Each toy pony had it's own individual story, it's own sticker it's own unique brush/comb and ribbon. There was a lot of work put into the individual toys and a lot more world 'building' than your video suggests. And lets face it, If you were into MLP back in the 80's you'd get what I was talking about, however people coming into it through FIM don't really appreciate 80's MLP because of they're narrow view of the brand through the cartoon. And it's probably best to not to sort of belittle the brand simply because the 80's cartoon was created to 'sell toys'. I'd suggest not forgetting that the toyline was invented so that children could have they're own little pony, and in that children would develope and create they're own ideas about they're ponies. The Hasbro 'men' at the time poopooed on Bonnies Idea, told her girls only wanted to cook and iron. So using the term 'toy' and seeming to belittle what 'we' had in the 80's fails the see the impact it had on some of us 'girls' back in the 80's. Ponies actually taught a lot of us to be independent and we didn't have to be "BARBIE" to be awesome. The video seems to play up the idea that G4 is better because of it's world building. I would agree in part, however since I grew up in the 80's my ponies were nothing like what I watched on the cartoon. I got into MLP in 1983, I didn't have a cartoon to base my ponies off when I started. The cartoon was an accessory to the toys and I developed my own ideas of the ponies personalities regardless of what hasbro and the writers came up with on a cartoon. So in some way the 80's ideas seem far more appealing to me instead of being a zombie to whatever Hasbro or the cartoon writers decide for the ponies. I'd also like to point out Paradise Estate was not released till around 1985-1986. So as far as the ponies living in Paradise Estate that didn't happen till A full 2-3 years after MLP toy line started. My Little Pony houses that existed before Paradise Estate are as followed: Show Stable, Pretty Parlor, Waterfall and Dream Castle. My first MLP house was the Show Stable, which I had a long while before I ever saw a paradise Estate. In fact I owned the stable before I ever saw a My Little Pony cartoon. I think when doing video's like this, I think it's sometimes a good idea to actually talk to the 'adult' fans who existed before FIM adult fans. These kind of videos generally come across as not very knowlegable of the original brand or at the very least don't have any input in perspective of those who loved the brand back in the 80's and tend to be fixated in Generation 4.
It's funny you sound a lot like Lauren Faust who created g4 when she describe growing up with G1. The characters she put in the show, which where just her personifications of the pony toys she played with growing up. I wonder how the kids growing up now will take the franchise next. Hmm....no one ever seems to talk about G2 - G3.5.... probably for the best.
One of my biggest pet peeves. G2 did not have a cartoon, but it's a common misconception among the newer MLP fans. I believe they mistakenly refer to G2 as MLP Tales cartoon as G2, which is incorrect. The toy line was exactly the same with Tales, same molds and nobody back then called it G-anything, it was MLP, even though the show was a tad different the toyline for it was exactly the same. The generational term applies to the toy line in My Little Pony, considering the fandom that existed before FIM centered fans came into being in 2010 or thereafter. The G2, or generation 2 title was given to the line of toys because Hasbro reused names. You have to realize back in 1997, the internet for collectors was in it's infancy. Most of us MLP fans who got online were looking to complete our collections but some people would sell G2 line ponies as G1 ponies becaus of the reuse of names. The collecting community started labeling the 'Friendship Garden' ponies as G2 ponies. So if you had Sundance, we would know if it's G1 or G2 Sundance (etc.). Everything that came before G2 toys falls under G1, this includes MLP tales and the toy ponies characters.
For some reason I never got that into MLP/FIM.... But I absolutely LUV the 1980's MLP version. I personally feel that it's a better show, plus I prefer the darker villains of that series. It makes their win over them that much more! Good conquers evil n such, u know?
Diana Wackrow You know that a lot of the G1 villains were selected to be G4 villains, right?! Heck, we literally GOT Grogar in all his demonic ram glory in Season 9. And they improved on Tirek. When I watched “Rescue at Midnight Castle”, I didn’t really see Tirek as all that intimidating. Yes, he used his “Rainbow of Darkness” to change ponies into monsters, but seriously, he was mainly just sitting on his throne doing NOTHING, but making threats to chop off Spike’s head. G4 Tirek on the other hoof, he drains magic, causes mass destruction, is insanely evil, and grows bigger each time he drains magic. Catrina wasn’t all that of a villain. She was more of a “embittered person” who got a quick reformation that I knew was coming. I respect your opinion, but if you were to watch G4 now, you’d certainly be impressed with it.
I've seen both old and new. I like G4 more. As for my favorite ponies, I have two. One is Fluttershy, the other is a background pony named Lyra Heartstrings.
The 80‘s version with him was probably my favorite one. I was born in the 2000‘s but somehow ended up adoring the very first „movies“. In the Episode, if I recall it correctly, with grogar he appeared with his magical realm Tamberlon(which only appeared every *insert insanely high number* ages) and tried to capture ALL the Ponys and other inhabitants, so he could take over Ponyland and swap their position with him, until his time was up, which was measured by his magical bell. There were two groups focused. The ones who were captured and thrown into dungeon and the ones who hid in the forest and tried to escape Grogar and figure out a plan to Save everyone in time. I, as a Child, was totally fascinated by the whole „capturing“ and „surviving“ and „dungeon“ stuff, Not having Seen anything of this kind in any other Cartoon I knew that Time. Of course, rewatching it almost as an adult is something different (as a child I Never bothered about Animation of something like that, because I just LOVED it). But still in this Grogar-Episode Things like friendship, support and compassion played a major role, I will Never forget. As Well as Grogar... *so sorry for the long answer and possible mistakes, but I‘m Not a native.
Yeah, back then they didn't pull any punches because kids needed that sort of adrenaline. The 80s was a dark era and those of us who lived through its media love it for that.
I will always love the old my little pony, even though mlp:fim is my generation. But I absolutely loved the old cartoon, it was way more entertaining in my opinion.
What I find so interesting (and annoying) about these videos is this attitude of what My Little Pony is. The assumption seems to be that "My Little Pony" means the animation. And then when discussing g1, it is always stated how it was a commercial to sell, eeew yuck, toys! as if G4 isn't! Come on, it's a brand owned by a toy company! Even if the line is more influenced by the show now, you can bet that if the toys weren't selling that they would stop making the show. I guess that this "animation first" mentality makes sense because of the Brony movement starting on an animation site. However, as a long time fan who grew up in the 80's I find this attitude backward. "My Little Pony" whether then or now is a toy line. Anything else, including the animation, no matter how successful it is, is extra. I also didn't like the statement about how the toys were unappealing and that somehow made it harder for g1 to be animated in a nice way. And the fact that they were hand drawn, within a limited budget and time frame didn't have anything to do with it? Not to mention that the toys were absolutely not unappealing. There is a reason that My Little Pony was a huge thing to begin with. Little girls like myself found the toys to be hugely appealing. A lot of people now days seem to forget that culturally artistic tastes change and those people look down on anything that came before as if it is inherently inferior and not just a shift in what is currently popular. In another 20 years, there will be a whole new generation of fans looking down on G4 with the same attitude that G4 loves to pass on to G1.
I can understand most of these points despite loving the original cartoon. (The animation doesn't hold up well today at all) But the points about worldbuilding and characterisation don't take into account that Friendship is Magic has had many more seasons and episodes than My Little Pony and Friends had. Friendship is Magic is going on 9 seasons soon iirc. MLP and Friends only had two, and they were fairly short seasons with less time to set up character arcs and worldbuilding per 10 minute episode. Even with the little time they had, I can still remember memorable places like Tambelon, Flutter Valley, and the location where Sonambula took place, though I can't remember the name exactly. And there were some good memorable characters like Shady, Wind Whistler, Surprise, Ribbon, and Fizzy. I think if they had more time, they would have fleshed things out really well, they were on the right track.
KingIceHunter G3.5 was the G3 ponies but as little fillies and with huge heads. G2 I believe was Pony Tales, a show that aired after the first MLP show, or some people also refer to it as the new line of MLP toys that came out after G1
Agree, they are part of the serie just as any season no matter if it was bad or not. I also dont like how he talks like g4 is the superior, it is a great show but it is not a god...
I love that he said that the toys/shows struggled to find support outside of the 3-and-up intended age range. Does that mean they wanted to expand down to newborn-through-2 as well and struggled?
G1: More complex narrative, darker themes, more action/adventure oriented, more mature characters, consistent storytelling (every 6-10 episodes run in arcs that focus on one specific storyline). Dated music, dated animation, dated aesthetics in general. Less individual character focus overall G4: Less complex narrative, lighter general themes. More story/ character oriented, less mature characters (changes based on the whims of the episode). More detailed world setting. Better music, animation, aesthetics in general. More focus on individual characters. G1 is for those who can stomach pretty cringey animation/ dated musical selection in order to enjoy a series that is consistent in story and handles its themes and characters in a much more serious way than its later counterpart. G4 is for those who want a focus on characters, consistent character development, worldbuilding, and having it all happen in a neat and polished setting.
Lol I love Rainbow Dash for her NeverEnding confidence , I'm not a very confident person myself and I admire her. But I also appreciate Pinkie Pie because her main goal in life is to make other people happy and I think that is a great thing to do to be happy because other people are happy
I used to watch the old style my little pony so much when I was younger! I couldn't quite remember what the old ponies looked like, but seeing them now has such a strong strike of similarity :3
I really like the 80s my little pony more Why? Here's a list 1. Better sound effects 2. Realistic movement 3. Better artwork 4. Better names 5. Good story lines
I loved the old one, they used to mostly be the same, because most that I had only one had wings but I still loved them: the story was so gripping instead of odd plots and stupid BWAHAHAHAHA's and there wasn't just one best pony, the monsters were amazing, the creatures were amazing and had me hooked instead of me watching horse fucking (literally in cadence's case). The creatures had more variety and morse eye verity (I mean pupils) in my opinion. The places didn't have pun names as well. I find that the old one should have stayed because it was overall better.
I have seen all of the versions. I was raised on the 1986 version and the one after that from the mid 90's to early 2000's. The one where the main pony was named minty.
I love doing Disney Dark Secrets but honestly (so far) THIS video was my favorite one to put my voice too! So...whos' your favorite Pony? In case you can't tell mine is Starlight Glimmer! :) What Then vs Now should Channel Frederator cover next?
Original MLP had cute designs but the characters lacked of personallity....some of them were only good. But MLP G4 they fixed that and maybe the ponies look more cartoonish but they now have a better character development.
At first, when I first watched MLP, I have onky watched the older version and preferred that one because of the design. Later, I prefer watching FiM because all the characters in MLP are great and loveable, even the villains are well written in my opinion
People say the old one is better or the new one is better, but I say, both the old and new is good, in different ways. Though I kinda dislike the old show's style, and I kinda still like the new show if I don't think of... Those disgusting bronies/pegasisters who almost ruined it for me... I used to love this show too when I was younger and liked childish stuff. Nowadays I usually cringe at childish shows, but MLP somehow doesn't. Only a few times. And I even still have those MLP OCs. It really depends on when you were born though. Anyone who was born at the time of the old one would probaly like that more, because nostalgia and all, and people born during the new would like that more.
Just a reminder that while some Bronies and Pegasisters are obnoxious and weird, all fanbases have people like this. The general fandom is meant to be a celebration of the show as a positive influence. It can speak to all ages, and a lot of Bronies are some of the nicest people in the world.
Theortheo Theortheo But that's every fanbase who has their black sheep. Star Wars fans can be annoyingly entitled, comic book fans can be very competitive with eachother, Rick and Morty fans can be toxic, etc. At least the Bronies and pegasisters try to inspire creativity and positive thinking. They're kind of like anime fans.
BunnyTaff My Little Pony Tales (1992). You know, the one with the anthropomorphic ponies where they walk like a human sometimes. Also, some of the voice actors from the show provide voices for some characters in Friendship is Magic!
Interesting video.....I still think the original 1980s cartoons looked good with high quality animation. The Ponies' appearance was more "equine-like". And personally, I seriously doubt that many kids had nightmares from the older TV shows or theatrical features. Besides, the contrived evil characters provide an almost necessary contrast to the Ponies' idyllic nature and world. It's a tried-and-true, entertaining and effective way to teach. Just imagine Disney's "Snow White" or "Pinocchio" stripped of their "scary" parts; these films wouldn't have the impact or stature they've always had. But then, the revamped "FIM" design is also attractive in a different way, certainly allowing more room for expression and humor (especially with the larger head and eyes). And this "new" character design is definitely influenced by the popularity of the Japanese anime look. Thanks for the informative comparison!

There was a rainbow dash in the original 1986 version, she just was a land pony. I still say she had the same sort of personality.
She has the same personality as Raity tho. Not the now rainbowdash.
I do know Firefly was the base personality for the current Rainbow Dash.
Are you referring to Sunlight?
@@FirestormDDash The use of rainbow dash and fluttershy as the names and appearances were due to copyright issues over firefly and other.

I remember that show!
Yes i got a movie of it also very minty Christmas but it more horrible

The 1980s G1 MLP where the best. They where sweet, innocent, soulful, looked like real pony's and the toys where adorable.
I also love that one of the ones shown ALL THE TIME in the clips used here is one I had (and still do!)--Galaxy! The sparkle-eyed pony. I kept going "HEY I KNOW THAT ONE" the whole time. XD
I personally don’t agree, but that’s me :)
the 1980 mlp toys are really creepy like if you agree
I grew up with them. The toys were the best, and the cutest.

"I agree! The new villains are so underdeveloped and cheesy"
Wow.. I didn't know it is possible to miss point so much 0_0
"Also, the original had the dark tones and painting, creating a more realistic, fantasy-like effect"
I'm not sure you understand words "fantasy" and "realism".
"while the new ones look like bright, cartoony, happy-go-lucky drawings an 8 year old could make"
Because context is what really is relevant. Show style is typical for modern animation and design was deliberately made to be easy to replicate. Do you think why there is so many fan-art? That is by design.
that is good to know

Clare Gundersen Yes! This was very frustrating while watching! He literally called the toys "bulky" and "awkward"... Simply unnecessary.

> @@googlyeyes4080 Just like did for animated scenes G4 ponies and creatures.
QUICK GET THE ANTIDOTE! )
I don't remember _as much_ personality on the ponies in the oldschool cartoon...but that's not to say I remember NONE. :P

K
MLP FIM doesn't have the inappropriate or mind numbing problems you mentioned. Plus it already has ponies in it so you should probably try to get your kid to watch it.

From a cutsie cartoon with the occasional dark story to a cutsie cartoon with occasionally dark characters. I dig it.
(Villains consistently dark.)
I agree. Plus this video was just biased in general
Omg I really don’t know anything about my little pony do I.
The UK comics you mention were not in the same canon as the TV show.

For some reason I never got that into MLP/FIM.... But I absolutely LUV the 1980's MLP version. I personally feel that it's a better show, plus I prefer the darker villains of that series. It makes their win over them that much more! Good conquers evil n such, u know?
I LIKED YOUR COMMENT! You already made grew up your life make sense decision.
Lucy Logan Perhaps not, but sad endings aren’t common for tv shows.

GUYS WE CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT GROGAR'S BACKSTORY!

Not popular liked G1 mlp.
Same i don't think the animation was bad i loved it and the toy's go G1
I agree! 100% I grew up with this and adored the series. I still have every season in a full series pack.
Surprise was hot!^_^
Me: spike is a new dragon
Old spike: am i a joke to you?
I don't watch MLP. I just enjoy the Then vs Now series.
But the shame is still there right ?
Just don't hate on people and we both can coexist :D
The best pony ay?
Hm
Starlight Glimmer
TheGermanofSodor no twilight is the best pony
I think you spelled Applejack wrong.
Starlight's okay, but Rainbow Dash is about 20% cooler!
Come on, everyone knows Derpy is the one true best pony.
Really,I'm a Fluttershy or Pinkie
I'm not sure if this was already commented, but the E/I was only used in the first season of Friendship is Magic. It was dropped since Season 2.
The new ponies don't look like ponies at all. The classic ponies did.
"The new one looks nicer in my opinion."
so we just ignoring gen 2 - 3.5 of mlp? oh okay then!
Kc Sams I have no idea what the hay your talking about (apple jack lying face)
KingIceHunter G3.5 was the G3 ponies but as little fillies and with huge heads. G2 I believe was Pony Tales, a show that aired after the first MLP show, or some people also refer to it as the new line of MLP toys that came out after G1
Funtime Froodyie did....did you look up....did you look up applejack’s lying/dishonest face?...specifically the one from the discord episode?
Agree, they are part of the serie just as any season no matter if it was bad or not.
I also dont like how he talks like g4 is the superior, it is a great show but it is not a god...
we don't talk about 3.5....
I love that he said that the toys/shows struggled to find support outside of the 3-and-up intended age range. Does that mean they wanted to expand down to newborn-through-2 as well and struggled?
I like the 80s style better. I wish they could split the difference.
Definitely prefer the 80's version, especially the art style. Never got into MLPFIM, but definitely understand the appeal.
I preferred the 1986 version
friendship WAS magical
G1: More complex narrative, darker themes, more action/adventure oriented, more mature characters, consistent storytelling (every 6-10 episodes run in arcs that focus on one specific storyline). Dated music, dated animation, dated aesthetics in general. Less individual character focus overall
G4: Less complex narrative, lighter general themes.
I'm gen 4 fan. But I can respect gen 1 fans.
I draw the line at gen 3 tho. That's a spoof of a spoof of MLP.
I like g7
I time travel
A lot
@@tabithathecat lol.
3:23 "-and a semi-annual convention called Bronycon."
F's in the chat
I know it's gone but that's the Hasbro managed ones. There's still bronycon locally.
Rainbow Dash was in the old version, she said Darling.
Or was that a different version
But I remember it
I’m dumb
That was G3 Rainbow Dash lol.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
Old Rainbow had the personality has Rarity. In the old theme there was a part *Rainbow Dash knows what to wear*
@@myleightibbs9829 Old Rarity (Gen 3) was mischievous rainbow princess lol (who happened to a baby)
*_Rainbow Dash is Rarity_*
Lol I love Rainbow Dash for her NeverEnding confidence , I'm not a very confident person myself and I admire her. But I also appreciate Pinkie Pie because her main goal in life is to make other people happy and I think that is a great thing to do to be happy because other people are happy
I used to watch the old style my little pony so much when I was younger! I couldn't quite remember what the old ponies looked like, but seeing them now has such a strong strike of similarity :3
Then is the best
So the original was only for one thing... BUY OUR TOYS!
2:22 I see butterscotch, soooo... The "male" version of fluttershy have existed before fluttershy did.
I really like the 80s my little pony more
Why? Here's a list
1. Better sound effects
2. Realistic movement
3. Better artwork
4. Better names
5. Good story lines
xDaemon I like the 80's my little pony better just I remember. I watched updated version with my niece. I find it meh.
Ikr
MLP:Friendship is magic is the best!
Yes it is!
Favorite book is Fallout: Equestria. The fan fic that got me into the fandom and got me to watch the show was Cupcakes.
lol the book title alone made me laugh out loud
Layarion which book title? Fallout: Equestria or Cupcakes?
this is one of the best pieces of literature I have ever read and has the best female protagonist of all time Little Pip
Frank James Bailey princess Luna but I do love GlimGlam. Plus I ship Trixie/Glimmer so hard!
glimglam and the zimzam
Frank James Bailey my favorite pony is Derpy, with AJ right behind her and Twilight Sparkle right after that
Frank James Bailey mine is twilight
My favorite pony is Pinky Pie!
Original MLP had cute designs but the characters lacked of personallity....some of them were only good.
But MLP G4 they fixed that and maybe the ponies look more cartoonish but they now have a better character development.
@Lillyana Duff
Being angry at once doesn't mean character development.
Besides, many of them lacked facial and body expressions.
@Lillyana Duff
My opinion
@Lillyana Duff There is something called an “opinion”
At first, when I first watched MLP, I have onky watched the older version and preferred that one because of the design. Later, I prefer watching FiM because all the characters in MLP are great and loveable, even the villains are well written in my opinion
The original MLP was the only one that had actual humans (Not counting equestria girls)
i loved the classic version
@@welcometothemetaverse2523 True but there are sadly alot of cringy people. I know from experience.
Theortheo
Theortheo
But that's every fanbase who has their black sheep. Star Wars fans can be annoyingly entitled, comic book fans can be very competitive with eachother, Rick and Morty fans can be toxic, etc. At least the Bronies and pegasisters try to inspire creativity and positive thinking. They're kind of like anime fans.
i know both are great but i understand why people say the old one is better well because thats where mlp started but yeah
Wow, nearly 38 years of mlp. That is just wild and crazy to think about
5:23 Those two pictures are not from the 1986 series! Also, did you know that some people sell them on Ebay?
Really? Where are they from then? I'm curious.
BunnyTaff My Little Pony Tales (1992). You know, the one with the anthropomorphic ponies where they walk like a human sometimes. Also, some of the voice actors from the show provide voices for some characters in Friendship is Magic!
I actually had a dvd copy of that movie 😂
God this makes me feel old -~-
