Thanks Steve for another great tutorial. I would just like to add that Mentioned at around 9 mins the 'basic editing things'. If you click on the down arrow that looks like a wide letter 'v' to the right of the options for 'light' and 'color' you get options for adjusting the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks and vignette. Also saturation, warmth, tint, skin tone and deep blue.
Thanks, Steve, for another well-done, informative video. I use Google Photos for family history work. I scan old photos and share with extended family. I organize them into shared albums. I don't have a mobile device which would offer the possibility of Google Lens. I use it on my Chromebook. Eventually, if it becomes able to use Google Play Store, I might be able to use Lens then. I like the ability to make subtle color adjustments. I use the information part for captioning the pictures.
Good video, but I have not figured out how to auto-sync cloud photos to my desktop. Appreciate Doug A's suggestion to use "Free up space" instead of deleting from phone.
Great video. I am beginning the process of organizing my digital photos. I have iOS, Google, Amazon, and Shoebox. I need to organize in 1 place. After watching this, I’m thinking Google photos. Do you delete your photos from iOS or do you not even have that app on your iPhone? I have pix in so many different places, it’s confusing. What would you suggest? Also so many are eating up my space, aren’t they? Thanks for your help.also is there a setting to get rid of duplicates in Google?
Another feature you did not mention that can be very helpful is to include two or more subjects in the search by adding "&" or "and" after the first subject. You could have only pictures of mimi and farley together! Love Google!
I recently set up my google photos and the face recognition recognized a picture of my daughter now (Shes almost 15) and one from when she was about 3 years old! Tripped me out lol!
Hi Steve, I think you're right about Google Photos having to be open for it to sync. At least, that was my experience. Having said that, I finally decided that the nice functionalities of Google Photos was not worth the potentially scary (as you would say) invasion of my personal life by having access to all my photos. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Just today, Google was hit with a multi-million dollar fine by the EU for violating its privacy laws. Impressed to see you mentioning the privacy issue surrounding Google products, especially Google Photos.
Only on the iPhone does it have to be open to sync photos. That's a limitation of the iPhone. On Android, Google Photos runs a lot better. It syncs in the background and is lightning fast.
Great video so thank you. Just an FYI in case you're interested but in Australia, Google Lens exists in G-Photos but is not available for PC (but can be used if you install an Android simulator). Also, there's no Photo Books options on either my Android or PC. I msg'd both Google and Samsung who both advised it's not available in this market. I suppose I'll have to take their word for it. btw, great hair.
I love your videos because they are clear and give lots of information slow enough for me to follow. I am looking for how to name a picture in google photos on my iPhone. Google says he is his cousin. He was just born and I can't get him renamed. I can't find a RUclips on this. Most say you have to download and do all kinds of very complicated things which I know is not it. I used to know because I have many named already.
This is the video in the Google series that I've been waiting for! Thank you! Just for fun, I did a screenshot of just you, Steve, from the video. Then I tried out Google Lens ... ... It identified similar bookshelves! :-)
Thanks, I'm new to Google Drive/photos- helpful info. I have lots of large file photos on my desk top. Should I put them all on google photos so I can use search capabilities? What is the best way to share large files with people who have or haven't google? When I try to share photos with some people it says no "no google account found" even if I use their email address. How can I resolve this? Looking forward to "Gray Matters"Thanks , Jose Macias
You have 500 Likes, and just 5 dislikes (I don't know why u have even 5) but that is a 100 to 1 ratio. That is Vastly more than any other RUclips who normally has a 1 in 10 maybe 1 in 20 ratio. That means you are 5 times better dude!!! Excellent video. Just the information I was looking for. Im a new subscriber. Cheers dude,
My question is somewhat similar to Annette’s, you mentioned that organizing (digital) photos has become almost impossible. Do you think we should even try anymore? Or should we just set a regular schedule-I’m thinking anywhere between weekly and yearly depending on how many photos one takes-to purge unwanted photos and to work on our photo books (for those who are interested in that)? Should we be trying to rename our photos to something meaningful anymore? Thank you for your trusted opinions.
Thanks Steve, another great video. Regarding some features not being available everywhere, here in the UK, we don't have the face recognition feature as EU Privacy law prohibits it. Oddly though, I mainly use Amazon Photos with my Prime account, (unlimited, no compression like Google), and that app does have face recognition, although it's not that good as you can't fix any errors! It mixes up my Grandson & Granddaughter for example.
Excellent content. Thank you. In case I ever do anything impressive, do you have an affiliate program? I would definitely recommend your videos if you do or if you do not. I especially like that you broke up the Google videos into a series. It is easier to digest and more easily works into my time constraints.
Great video Steve, but does it help with storage issues on both Mac and iPhone as I need a photo's storage option that can remove them from my devises and store them safely in the cloud with easy access? Brian
Photos do not retain their sequence when uploaded to an album...Each photo must be located and rearranged individually. An album of 200 photos is hopelessly scrambled otherwise.
I don't know if this has changed recently but a few weeks ago - if I delete a photo from google photos - it also deletes it from the source I uploaded it from. Deleting photos should not be automatic like uploading them should be. Control Issue????
Love your channel. I'm trying to organize my pictures and when I move a photo from camera to album, the photo is in both places. If I delete it from camera it deletes in both places. How can I just keep it in the new album?
Thanks Steve, love your videos. Maybe to add Google offers free unlimited lower resolution photo storage that does not affect your free space or alternatively keep your photos at full quality but it counts against your space. I personally have purchased additional space to store my photos. Too many photos lost from disk failures and no backups.
Hi Steve. Love your videos. I use a chromebook, PC, and android phone. While on the PC, I made a new folder titled "Civil War". I uploaded quite a few files (.jpgs) relating to the Civil War to this folder from my PC. Everything looked great, but when I closed the program, the folder did not show up on any of my devices whenever I opened Google Photos again. So I tried again. Same result. Any suggestions? Is it possible to recover the folder?
Good video, thank you I would like to say I don’t think that Google should poo poo the ideas of folders, because the idea of folders within folders ie albums with albums is still a great idea and could be incorporated in google photos, let me give you an example. If you like cruising you may go to the same place on different ships, so I would like to be able to upload one folder “Holidays” and within that folder have many more folders like “queen Mary 2013” and Queen Many 2018” at the present time you cannot upload folders/albums within folders/albums so after many years your screen would be so cluttered with albums
I was hoping to find information on how sync Google photos reacts when you delete a photo from your Iphone library, will it delete from Google Photos as well. Also vice versa if you delete from Google Photos will it delete from your iphone photo library ?
Ok, so I just tried this, I deleted the photo from my phone folder and it deleted it from my Google photos as well. SOOOO how does this free up space on your phone if you delete from the phone it deletes from the Google Photo album? I thought it was supposed to allow you to remove the photos from your phone to free up space.
Steve! Thanks for all of your wonderful content! I am trying to share google photos to my company google folder for photos. I can't seem to drag and drop, UNLESS the photos are on my laptop. Is there a way to share those between google folders without downloading? #perplexed but a BIG fan. Charlie
Now, if you are an iPhone/iPad/Mac person, how do you take photos off the Apple Photos app/iCloud (to save storage on devices and having to pay for more iCloud storage) without losing the pictures in Google Photos. Also, is there any way to get Google Photos to keep the album structure from Apple Photos?
Great video Steve but no longer interested in google photos as since they went to back up and sync I have not had my photos syncing despite following their instructions and can find no answer to the problem. I am now trying to rely less on Google products like this as when they go wrong which they inevitably do find support answers is very time-consuming.
One more thing Steve. I have an iPhone XR and I have different words in photos and Albums than you do so I can't seem to see how to rotate and on the bottom row it just has Photos search and library. In library it has favorites, archive, utilities and trash. In 'search' it has people and all the categories but no way to edit except for light. Any suggestions?

My only problem with Google Photos is the duplication of photos. I wind up with multiple copies of the same photo and it drives me nuts. You’d think with how smart the software is it could find duplicates and not upload them. I don’t mind the size of the photos as I don’t have any that are so big they get compressed. None of my photos were compressed when they uploaded and they still fit within the free service and are fine for printing, etc. I just can’t stand that I have as many as 8 or 10 of the same photo because Google cannot recognize that they are duplicates. Thanks Steve. Great information. I am in the process of uploading ~30,000 photos and videos from my 2011 MacBook Pro. It had been 7 days so far and the Upload/Synch window currently says “Synching 106864 of 232514”. Is this normal to take this long? What do these numbers mean? Do I continue to hang in there? Thanks in advance for the feedback
UPDATE! After 8 days of painful uploading, while keeping the screensaver off and allowing the bottom of the MacBook Pro to get blazing hot, I woke up to “Synch Complete”. So far so good! I can not detect any missing photos or videos. There are quite a few repeats in my library, but I can remove those as I go. I am very happy with this product and I am recommending it to everyone. Hopefully Google stands by it from here on out. So if you are synching your library from a laptop and it is taking a long time.... yes, hang in there.
