  • Making its debut sporting an all-new, sleeker design and serving as a replacement for the outgoing model which had been on sale since late 1987, the 1995 Lincoln Continental continued with a platform shared with the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. Powered by a V8 engine, the Continental provided its customers with a ton of electronics and state-of-the-art features.
    In this episode, we're going to take a look at the 1995-2002 Lincoln Continental-an American Luxury sedan that targeted buyers looking for a large sedan with exemplary comfort and ride quality wrapped in a satisfying package.

    I got the creampuff beige 1996 Continental. I was the 2nd owner in 1999. Luckily the airbags went out early on the 1st owner so Ford had to pay to fix it. He left the car with them in a trade for a F250. I got the car for $17k CPO with 10k miles. I still have her. I call her PUFFY. She still rides and shines like a new car 58k miles. Mostly trips to Vegas. To this day I still get offers for me to sell it. Its too Reliable, super fast and library quiet. Ford Actually tried to compete with Lexus and made a fine car but Ford is ran by accountants. They will never make anything this good again. By the way SUBSCRIBED! You have great content.

    My brother bought a used 1999 continental . And then I bought him from him as my first car. It was kept beautiful inside and out . Red with brown gold leather interior. Also had the air bags replaced with coil springs . And I drove it past 200,000 miles!

    I've got two of these; a 1998 and a 2002. Both have a sunroof and bucket seats, the 2002 is a bit fancier with pearl paint and the sporty 6 spoke chrome wheels and the adjustable suspension. I bought the 1998 for $1,400 in 2018 when it had 126k miles, its now at 176k miles. I picked up the 2002 a year ago for $1,200 with 157k miles. Although they are not hot rods, they are very responsive and lively. It has all the power I need for quick passing on rural Texas two lane highways. They do require a bit of disassembly in the engine compartment when doing repairs, but thankfully I haven't had to do much to keep them going. I like them a lot!

    I was hunting for a crown Victoria or Grand Marquis and I told my mechanic I had found a Lincoln Continental, front-wheel drive engine equipped. He said don't walk, run. There are many times you have to pull the engine to work on that platform. You couldn't pay me to own one. I love my many crown vics and Grand Marquis I have owned over the years

    • @MotorMaster_Stunticon

      Really? Never heard having to pull the engine to work on one. Haven’t heard of having to do that since the Ferrari F355. But yeah nevertheless CV/GM/TC are the most durable/reliable from what I’ve heard from owners. That’s why so many are still seen on the road nowadays.

      @@HH-ev9mm The Aurora, especially the first gen was Olds trying to reinvent itself as badge engineering was slowly killing the brand that had much better sales numbers 10 years prior.plus the perception was it was a old man's car. As good as it was, it had to be as newer players like the Lexus ES beat it in sales. Ultimately the Aurora wasn't enough and the rest of the Olds lineup was other GM vehicles with a different grille. Comparing it to Lincoln isn't fair as it was perceived as a higher brand. I don't think a fwd Continetal should have been Town Car or Mark 8 priced.

    My parents had a loaded '96 Continental in a creamy pearlescent paint. It was a dream to drive until one day when my Mom was driving it and a guy backed out of his driveway without seeing her and caved in the B-pillar and both doors on the passenger side...Needless to say, that was the end of their Continental. And luckily my Mom was fine, but a little shaken.

    My parents bought a gently used, loaded (minus cellular phone) 1996 in 1998 with 8,000 miles; it was an executive program car. I learned to drive in it and drove it for about a year before buying my first car. Fantastic power and sound. Suspension in firm was decent for a two ton boat. Transmission for the time was well matched to the V8, except for it’s rough first to second shift - only time that shift was smooth was if it was north of about 3300rpm. They wanted me to buy it from them as my first car at 16 in 2004, with only 46,000 miles for $3500. Only reason I didn’t was because of the air suspension. The dreaded “check ride control” warning was on the data center display. Never sat down or failed, but it was a $4000 repair. I told them I’d do it if they had the suspension converted all around or had the air suspension fully replaced. They traded the Continental in for an 05 Infiniti G35 coupe, and my first car became a 98 Nissan Maxima SE instead. It was a great car, never a mechanical engine fault, but the suspension was its Achilles heel.

    • @MotorMaster_Stunticon
      @MotorMaster_Stunticon  Год назад +1

      Thanks for sharing the story. Agreed and yes I spoke with several Continental owners that mentioned the same regarding the suspension. The 1998 Maxima SE was a solid choice for a first car.

    You did a great job again. I noticed the new graphics as well. You covered the information quite well. I liked the transition from the rear drive 1987 Continental to the 1988 model that sold well to the 1995 model. I was not not a fan of the 1995 styling because it tried too hard to be contemporary and lost something. The 1998 update did improve things, but it lost out to Town Car in the same showroom. They had to do a front drive V8 powered car because Cadillac had several ( Seville, Deville, Eldorado). It got crushed by the Town Car on one side and the LS on the other. Both were rear drive and offered V8's. LS appealed to younger buyers and was in line with the luxury market of the time. I thought for sure you would talk about the most recent Continental. That one looks excellent and is high tech too. It competed against the Cadillac CT6. The CT6 and Continental exist in China, but not in the United States. Thank you again.

    • @MotorMaster_Stunticon
      @MotorMaster_Stunticon  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching again. Yeah it was basically a tag-team match between the Town Car + LS and the Continental. All 3 Lincoln models price tags were in the vicinity of one another. I like the design of the ‘95s. Didn’t wanna mention the final generation because I wanted the keep the attention on the ‘95, but yeah the final gen looks great. I had a 1995 Continental and loved it. The airbag suspension never failed me, though the rears would deflate occasionally overnight. The rear struts on the other hand needed replacement at 90k. I loved playing around with the suspension settings and could really notice a difference. In plush it felt like a 70s era boat. I usually kept it in normal and loved the ride. I felt it could have offered more rear leg room for such a big car. The trunk was huge and mine had the cargo management system, or what I called the body loading system. The gauges, to me, were one of the coolest parts of the car and a big selling feature. I really wish that I had kept that car. They really don't build then like this anymore!
