Thanks for reporting on this, Jeffrey. This worst part is the lack of transparency. They must be talking about the issue and what went wrong. A friend of mine who serves as a Conference Treasurer in the UMC used to say something to the effect, "The UMC system is not built around giving people authority to do the job but around assigning blame when the job fails to get done."
As a Roman Catholic partly educated at a Methodist Sunday school I have concern and love for all people impacted by wicked people! I am amazed at the parallel conduct found in the RC community and the Anglican ,it appears the devil has been very active. Be assured of my prayers for all souls impacted through this evil!
Gross incompetence, … passive/aggressive negligence, … or an attempt to manipulate the Conference proceedings to favor a particular agenda. These appear to be the possible explanations for these events, and none of them bodes well for the future of the UMC.
There is definitely something going on. It appears as though those who know are keeping it quiet. Did someone mismanage UMC funds? Maybe. This has been a problem where there is no transparency regarding how church money is handled. I certainly feel for the African delegates who must endure significant obstacles to obtain visas and make travel arrangements. Shame on those responsible for making their ordeal even more difficult.
Thank you for helping fill in the blanks. In my UMC congregation, silence has been the key word, at least for those of us not in positions of leadership. It's been months, maybe over a year, since the District leadership had their meeting with us about disaffiliation and the like.
Same here. My husband and I left…and we have been blessed in the GMC. I was worried because we were told we were jumping the gun. Nothing going on here to worry about. Might be so for our rural congregation at that moment. We left a year ago, and we are very happy. Our GMC church is growing every month. We are learning more in the short year we have been there than we did in the UMC. Our former UMC church is not growing and is declining. Sad. Did not need to happen.
So glad we got out when we did. I am left wing (yes, left, but my politics mean nothing to my religion.) and couldn't handle where they are heading. Saying that we were the only UMC in our city who did. I hope the African Conferences can do something with the UMC, but will the UMC allow it? I doubt it.
Hey you may or may not be interested in the interview I did with Maria Dixon Hill, which I published this morning. She wanted to do the politics thing at the end. I wonder what you would make of me as the conversation shifts from religion to politics. I definitely hadn't done anything like that publicly before.
Thanks Jeffrey. As always you bring to light information that is important for every member. As a lifelong Methodist so far, these subjects have been addressed in the dark or by just a few in the know. I find your podcasts informative and no malice toward our denomination. It is our responsibility to be knowledgeable about our church and the stance on many issues. Thank you again for sharing. Blessings to you.😊
@@stevegrimes6326 Haha, stakeholder capitalism has really done a number on our society, hasn't it? What an excellent plan for insular leadership: discount all the voices on the outside. Good luck with that.
Thank you so much for your continuous work in putting this delicate issue to the people. May god bless you🙏😘 as I Inc member my heart is broken and I am in the process of looking for a new place of worship. I am also going tnrough the educational process in our church may I add that our church as a nickname of the church of gays!! There are other Inc churches in my area but would good is that to go to a different Inc church if theirs believes are the same. Prayers are needed for all of us. I agree with EVERY THING YOU ARE SAYING thank you 🙏🙏🙏🐦🐦
I am not UMC, I am a Baptist. I have listened to this podcast and watching the UMC news through this past year and a bit more. With this level of evil behavior or to be more generous incompetence in the UMC, I wonder why people remain with them. How could they not have met since 2019?
I saw that also, it is called regionalization and what it does is isolates the African vote and they can do one thing while other countries can make the changes they want; also for consideration is changing the definition of marriage and third is to stop disaffiliations. I feel they are going to be more walk-aways than before because we have their curiosity and most should be saying now this just isn't about the homosexual life-style. Just this week, I was told "you left because you don't want gays in your church". That angers me because that has to be coming from the UMC, disinformation to suit their purpose . All are welcome in the pews, not all are welcome in the pulpit. The Bishops' behaviors were my reasons, there is no leadership in UMC, churches do what they want, believe what is easy to believe and it has only gotten worse.
What are you talking about? What other demographic are they excluding? How? You can email any evidence you have to plainspokenpod@gmail.com. I'm speaking to the only exclusion that can be substantiated. To my knowledge, there is not other demographic that they are working to exclude from the gathering.
One has to consider the source, this person is a GMC elder and is just spouting the same lies that the WCA used on so many churches to con them into disaffiliation.
1) I'm directly drawing from a Mainstream UMC source, reading large swathes of it verbatim. 2) If you can highlight the lies I'm saying, I will renounce them (assuming of course that they are actually lies). I'm still unfamiliar with any lies that the WCA has told. Maybe you know something I don't.
You left the conference system, I have no idea why your talking about insular issues that you have no tap into. Lets remember, you are in the same denomination now that vowed against us for years and siphoned money and churches away from the mainstream united Methodist, while we blessed your way and extended disaffiliation periods for ya'll. You're in the same organization that has purposed an interview process for a Wesleyan system, denying both historical practices and the foundational arguments and reform formulated by John Wesley. I don't believe a word you say considering the harm your ideas have had in small factions of Methodist thought.
GMC has a conference system, so... We PAID money to get out, so that's sorta the opposite of siphoning... We were not blessed in leaving, but rather threatened and extorted. And lied about. I'm not sure how interviewing people undoes Wesleyan practice. I don't care if you believe me. At all.
@andrewgriffin3689 love to hear other input. You, however, are pretty hateful. Hope you can remember the UMC mantra…open heart, open doors, open minds. I guess you lost that part and don’t agree with it. I agree, It is misleading.

Jeff, Amen to that

South Carolina is still voting to disaffiliate though March 1.
I find it interesting that the conference is teaching classes on not being racist towards blacks and here thy are shunning the African delegates
I guess only black American lives matter, not African ones.

That’s what I’m going for! I’m so glad you have experienced me that way!
Jeffrey no longer has standing in the U.M.C. He is no longer a stakeholder.

It is interesting that the Roman Catholic Church has the same problem with African Catholics.

People stick with what they know. And the UMC has a great heritage. It is sad that millions HAVE already given up on the UMC. What waste...
Does it come as a surprise that Mark Holland and Adam Hamilton are metropolitan Kansas City neighbors?
As a faithful Catholic, I would invite you, then I remembered the issues We've got.
We've each got our own weeds to pull up in our respective denominations
If only Paul were here,...
Is the UMC an inherently and systemically racist institution? I would have to say yes.😢
It's hard to make the case that it isn't...

You need to address all of the exclusions of all races, ethnicity, class, etc.

Did you extend the same blessing to the African Methodist that were excluded from voting in Charlotte?
Racist
