Sketching Tough Scenes, Adding Color (part 2)

- In my last video I sketched this scene of an abbey in France. In this video I use a watercolor wash to color it and bring it to life. I show you what colors I use and how to apply the paint without being a slave to what's in front of you.

Again, excellent video Steve! Would love to see more line& wash - multi-video of the American West that you do so well! Thanks.
I love your work. I also like that you are a "south paw, " and how you cover the work while sketching to prevent smudging. Great work!
This was absolutely fantasticand an enormous fun to watch. Your relaxed style is exactly to my liking. The result looks great. What is great with this illustrational (urban sketching) kind of art making that it is inherently abstract still figurative looking easy unlike a heavy colorful realistic oil painting which people admire and stand behind 3 meters respecting it.
has a great summertime touristy town vibe 😀
So fun to watch :) I love the style of architecture- the buildings have great character.
Hey Jared! I agree. The hardest part about using Google maps is finding that wonderful scene to sketch. But hey, it's a heck of a lot easier than flying there and roaming the streets until you find it in person, but not quite as good at making great memories. Cheers!
Very nice!
Thank you for sharing. 👍🏻
Beautiful Steve!! Love this. Very inspiring as well. Thank you.
Thanks so much Karen, I had a ball and hope you give it a try!
Beautiful work Steve!
Thanks John, always great to hear from you. Hope all is well in your world!
By the way I did a loose sketch after being inspired by your casual sketch and I had such a fun time with it and loved the results, too. So thank you! 💗
That's the best thing I've heard all day Keke! Thanks!!
Love your DS palette and you've introduced some colors I'd love to try, particularly the earthy colors on the far right. And thanks for answering a question I've always had - when to stop painting the sky. You didn't actually "say" the answer but when you painted close the building but allowed the spire and roof peeks to go beyond the sky rather than the sky beyond the peeks, that was enlightening! Thanks, Steve, I always learn something big from your shares 🤗Cheryl
Awww, glad I was able to help Cheryl. Thanks for watching and for checking in... cheers!
Thank you for doing this in bright, fun colors! For some reason on location I always think I can't change the colors. But you can!
I’m excited for this. Thanks for doing a coloured version.
Lovely 😊
Thank you!!
