      I imagine there are locks with anti bump features and keyways that this tool couldn’t be used for, but for the 80% of standard locks out there I think it would be a good choice for the professional

    I still stand by my homemade "toothbrush" pick. It may not be as fast as the $500 one, but it works and only cost me $14 and an hour to make it.
    BTW : I have one of those round tension tool donuts I got from sparrows, and really don't like it. It's too bulky, way too thick to pick through, and you can't feel anything...no tension feedback. I'd do better with a bent Bobby pin. I have to feel what's going on so I like my wipers and pry bars.

    The only issue I have with EPGs (aside from the frankly outrageous prices for what has to be a relatively simple device) is that they seem to produce an awful lot of metal dust. Is that not the pins essentially being ground down? That can't be good.

  • @roysammons2445
    @roysammons2445 4 года назад +2

    It goes without saying that this is a really good piece of kit. To be honest it's really for the trade as us lock pickers would rather face the challenge of the lock itself. Having said that there is still the odd occasion every now and then when it would come in handy. Unfortunately not at that price.

    Hey Lock Noob, what’s your choice/opinion between Wednt electric pick and Kronos?

  • @happylocksmith
    @happylocksmith 4 года назад +2

    It is a nice kit but will in open GEE GEE and Corbin cylinders I doubt it just like the Kronos over hyped The original Multipick Electro pick and MHP 11Plus were game changers in the world of warrant locksmiths.

    • @happylocksmith
      @happylocksmith 4 года назад

      @@Zieh-Fix Absolutely true we have three EPGs and the Wendt is the first one that comes out and 8/10 its successful however we have found that on some not all the makes I mentioned it can fail but there are so many factors to consider and no EPG is 100%

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 года назад

      Electro picks have their limits and there is also a degree of skill to be added in. I’m certain it could open some GEGE locks, but not all. In that regard it’s just one useful tool in a professional’s tool kit, and most of them have an epg for a reason I’d guess

    • @happylocksmith
      @happylocksmith 4 года назад

      @@LockNoob Of course there are limits which are governed by output Kronos 13,000 MHP II 22,000 Multipick System 24 volt 44,000
      So based on the above if the Kronos fails on a lock there would be a good chance the MHP II would open the lock in question. As you well know some lock manufacturers use heavier driver pins and heavy-duty springs which will stop some EPG’s in their tracks.
      I have a Wendt version 2 and converted it to lion 3.7 volt which improved performance and I would put it at around the same as my MHP 11 it does lack in torque and yes it does open the odd GEGE not all but neither does the MHP II but the Multipick 24 volt System does well on locks in that calibre with more power on offer your chances are increased on the downside to this the added power offered on the higher end tools will destroy the cheap and nasty locks found on a lot of rental properties in the UK. Having an easy adjustment on your needle height helps as you can control the strike and this is the only negative point I could make on this newer version which still uses the nut and bolt as used on previous models this could be improved so easy adjustment can be made without having to look for a couple of spanners. Have a look at the Pinks GEN 4
      Another point some people may not like is not being able to replace the battery Most 18650 cells are rated for between 300 and 500 cycles. That means your cell can charge up to 4.2 volts, and discharge down to 2.5 - 2.8 volts, a maximum of 300 to 500 times without too much loss in performance. When an 18650 cell nears the end of its life, the performance loss is sudden and fast. Although I think you would get many years of service out of a good quality battery.
      So if you are a Locksmith / Maintenance Engineer and need a tool to open locks in a non-destructive manner there are electric pick guns to suit all budgets but if you look at the Kronos nice tool well-made complete set £379.08 direct from Multipick or a Wendt III complete set from Zieh-Fix £457.40 I would go the extra mile and opt for the Wendt III however if you are a hobbyist you would get more satisfaction from hand-picking. But if you want a tool to impress your friends and have money to burn you would maybe opt for the Kronos and spend the difference on something else. Of course none of these tools are magic wands, technique and skill from the user plays a huge part but having said that it's not rocket science just bear in mind for every action there is a reaction.

    Looks like a clone of the Multipick Kronos, which I have, complete with the tensioner and the plug spinner. Both very nice examples of German high quality engineering. Just one point, though - you say that the orientation of the pick matters, depending on whether the pins are up or down, but surely it makes no difference, as the needle of the electropick moves up AND down? In fact, if you put the straight edge of the needle up just under pins, they are ALL going to get smacked equally. If you invert the pick , then the "down stroke" of the pick is going to angle the needle so that the pins furthest away from the number 1 pin will get smacked harder and higher. I've had more success with having that "top" straight edge of the needle lying just up under the pins. But I guess whatever works is the magic answer :) Keep the good stuff coming - I love it :) Great videos...! :) Thank you.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 года назад +1

      As far as I can tell, it’s more of a repeat flicking action that’s rebounded or buffered by a small spring, so I stand by my comment that the action is designed the way I described. Also, to back that up, the success rate is far far higher in one orientation

    • @The_Doc_Rocks
      @The_Doc_Rocks 4 года назад

      @@LockNoob Fair comment - if it works, it works. I note Bosnianbill's demo of the Kronos in which he uses it "flat edge up". I've tried both, and I tend to have more success that way too. But obviously both ways work. I just found that with the angling of the needle on that "down stroke", the number 5 or 6 pins were getting overset more. But I'm certainly no expert. Thanks again for the video - always appreciate yours, plus some civilized discussion :)

    • @The_Doc_Rocks
      @The_Doc_Rocks 4 года назад

      @@Zieh-Fix Apologies - maybe the Kronos is a clone of your device then. They are certainly very similar, even to the set including the rotary tensioner and the plug spinner. But as you say, if it works, it works. I have more luck with the "flat edge up toward the pins" approach, but with the proviso that the needle is not inserted too far - an easy thing to do if not careful. Whichever one came first (and it sounds like yours did), they are both superb examples of engineering. Congratulations :)

    I know
    a few locksmiths,all have had Charging Issues, well into the Useage of them,out of Warranty and trying to Repair them,the Internal Wiring is very short, no excess amount for Manoeuvre..the Vibration Tensioner IMO looks Cheap n Nasty,a Bolt, the Spinner looks a Very slight Diff Copy of another Well Known German EPG Manafacturer, who the Lads have had Issues with Wendt have changed over to
    As Replacing a like for like at £400 + in this Financial Climate is a big Ask
    If not Mistaken think you did a Review of the EPG

    • @Zieh-Fix
      @Zieh-Fix 2 года назад

      We haven't seen this comment until now...
      This is very strange we often repair things and only charge the shipping. We even had a UK distributor repairing these and now are building up a new one to be able to repair. 400GBP for a replacement? We would never charge that. There is about 3cm of wires on both ends so enough excess to solder nicely and not to much so it will become a problem. Please let your Locksmiths know to contact us if there is a problem we take huge pride in our work, this is the reason that even after warranty we fix known issues for free and only charge the transport (if i can't be fixxed in teh UK directly.)
      The Spinner was produced like that for years in fact the Internals remained the same for over 25 years. So even before said company entered the market. In fact we heard that the Spring of most other Manufacturers are weak compared to ours.
      The round tensioner looking cheap is also a first time we here that. We use a coating and before that a hardening process so that the tool stays alive as long as possible. The insert are cut on a water jet from high yield springsteel, until now in over 10 years we changed to that less then 0.01% needed an replacement of these.
