I’m a veteran, so this song resonates with me. I put my weapon down, but if WW3 started I’d go right back. I’m older and slower than I used to be, but I can still shoot and jump out of a plane. My brothers are better off with me than without me. But it needs to be a major conflict of necessity, I’ll let the kiddos handle the BS.
I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this, but Tim, the bass, self directs his voice. You can watch his right hand, the lower his voice goes, the lower his hand is. It's easy to watch him in this song. I'm re-watching your reaction, I really respect it, thank you again!
The guys in Home Free are very patriotic and have an entire album dedicated to this called Land of the Free. Tim and others are always supporting veterans and have done that for a long time. Appreciate their serious side….great reaction!!
Beautiful in every since of the word! Such a emotional but true song! The harmonies were amazing!!! Tim and Chance were awesome! Great reaction!! I love Home Free😊
Song was written by Mark Kneopfler (sp?) of Dire Straits back in the 80’s during the Falklands War between England and Argentina. It was performed with a 5 minute guitar solo. Club for 5 (sp?) a Finnish group had made and performed an a cappella arrangement. Tim called and asked them about it, and they gave it to him. He made some modifications for Home Free, and they performed and released it for last Veteran’s Day. One of their best, if not the very best, in my opinion.
You got it mostly right, it is Club For Five. Tuukka Haapaniemi is their bass. Tim asked Tuukka if Home Free could use it. Tuukka sent it to them and highly praised it and said that the added "echos" made it Home Free. The added echos were the only difference in the entire arrangement. Tuukka is a friend and mentor to Tim.
"England" is not a sovereign country. The war was between Argentina and Britain/Great Britain/the UK. You would have thought that after the union was formed about 400 years ago, that people would have learned, but clearly not.
Watching this pulled my heart strings in two directions. The exquisite beauty of the music they are creating made me feel joy and awe, but the message with the music was heart wrenching.
Appreciating your heartfelt reaction. This is certainly in tribute to our service members, fallen, and veterans.. and also there's the strong message that we are foolish to allow ourselves to be divided as we do. Wherever you are, stop making war on those 'others'.
Tim’s breathy bass is suggestive of a soldier’s fading strength as he lies mortally wounded, speaking to his comrades. Chance’s lighter tone gets his emotions across to his brethren. The silhouette against the window light is deliberately ghostly, reminiscent of the POW-MIA remembrance flag as pictured on your screen flying beneath the American flag. The subtle touches Home Free has added to this beautiful tribute are so cleverly done.
What a rendition of the Dire Straits Classic. I was and am a huge fan of theirs (DS) and had their album (of the same title) in vinyl, cassette and CD formats. Played it over and over again, as I was growing up to understand what it all meant. Every time I go past a historical resting place of those who answered the call and fought for their convictions, I am always aware that these were somebody's sons, brothers, husbands and fathers,...and I miss a particular one whom I was proud to call my friend. Home Free is not the first to stir these emotions, but, they do bring it to our faces and ask the difficult questions - and quite beautifully so. There are a million and one stories, which played throughout our history. Wouldn't it be great to focus on any one of them, to truly understand and be humbled by their ultimate sacrifice? If even for a moment. No matter their banner, may they all rest peacefully in the sacred silence. Thank you Chris, for sharing your personal insights with us, as I suspect we all need to take pause to honour those who were so valiant. I am also certain your words of appreciation comforted the heartbroken, who lost someone very special to them. We should also be keenly aware that there are many who serve today, who are willing to put their lives on the line for our collectively perceived freedoms. How do we even begin to describe their gift to us? Perhaps, a song or a poem from our hearts...
This is the joy of Home Free. Cover or original, serious or ridiculous, they never fail to suck you in. Besides the lyrics, what really hooked me on this one was the beautiful harmonies driven by the three tenors. That burst of sound by them after Chance's solo! And then Chance and Tim running on top of them... Wow wow wow.
Now check out God Bless the USA ft Lee Greenwood and the US Army Singing Sargents, or American Pie ft. Don McLean, Everybody Walkin’ this Land with an amazing message at the end.
This is from the Dire Straits album Brothers In Arms. My favorite song on that album. I really wish they could add Mark Knopfler's haunting guitar work to this. Love both versions.
I come from a family who have had many serve in the military from WW1 to Iraq. Not all of them made it back home and some were wounded. This song brings a lot of feeling and tears everytime I hear it, but I'm so proud of all of them. I love and support all veterans and military. Thanks for your reaction. This was a Dire Straits original but Home Frees version is the best in my opinion. ✌❤
Larry this song was released by Dire Straights in 1985. It was written about the Falkland war. It story is about soldier talking to his comrades as he is dying. Even though I like all Home Free songs this one is one of top 2 or 3 songs they have done. If you are not emotionally touched by this song then I do not what will touch you. Glad you are continuing look at Home Free
Dire Straights are one of my all time favorites. Not to mention Mark Knofler’s amazing guitar playing. Home Free does justice to this song. I would like Larry to react to Dire Staights
Their version of this song speaks volumes about their patriotism and commitment to their craft. They don't merely sing a song they feel the song and that translates to the performance. Another great performance is Take Me Home Country Roads. They waited to record this for years for it to be the cover they wanted it to be. Check it out when you can.
Loved your reaction! Your expression throughout says it all. This is Home Free's masterpiece... hauntingly beautiful, mesmerizing, chilling, and so, so meaningful.
I look forward to your reaction to How Great Thou Art. You will definitely get chills! I'm also curious to see you react to some songs that show their sense of humor. Thanks for great reactions!
God Bless our Veterans! Thank You!!! I miss my Dad, my Uncles, and my Grandpa that I never got to meet (and all those family Vets that lived long before). Peace, Love! And Thank You Again!!!
This is the best version I've ever heard. To me they all look 'ghost' like when standing in front of that window....I still have chills. Such beautiful harmonies and Tim and Adam C. just deliver an awesome performance....as do all the guys. I'm Australian and it resonates with our own lost men & women who died in service of our Country. Love your reaction Larry....I think the low bass from Tim enters ones body and you not only hear but 'feel' the words....
As has been already said, this was a Dire Straits song and composed originally from a British perspective. The arrangement is not that of Home Free as they clearly note on the original YT page: Arrangement by Susanna Hietala & Jouni Kannisto of Club for Five The group "Club for Five" is not an American group either (they hail from Finland!) but also counts as a member the amazing basso profundo, Tukka Haapaniemi. The bass singer of Home Free is Tim Faust who has been well regarded far and wide for some time now. So, you see, there is quite an international aspect to both the arrangement, composition, and performance of this tune. We all understand some things in common.
This hauntingly beautiful song was written and recorded by DIRE STRAITS in the 1980's. ENGLAND and the small FALKLAND ISLANDS off the coast of Argentina went to war. It is a very deep sad song. In my opinion, HOME FREE did it better than anyone ever has! I totally agree with you, the two men who sang lead were perfect. The harmonies were spectacular. Without music, it is hard to show the grief and sadness that the song called for. This song is an absolute masterpiece, A MASTERPIECE. AND, I BELIEVE IT TO BE THE VERY BEST SONG THAT THEY HAVE EVER DONE!!! THANK YOUR AGAIN FOR YOUR VERY OPEN AND HONEST REACTION.
This is hauntingly beautiful. Tim was the right pick. His range is something else. Loved his low notes, loved the echoes, loved the black and white film. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. You’re right it is sacred. We owe our soldiers and vets everything. My grandfather, father, brother and nephew all served. Thankfully, only my grandfather was wounded but survived. This was wonderful. Good reaction Larry and I pray your sons and my own son never have to fight.
This quickly became my favorite song on their “ Land of the Free” album. I love that Chance picked up the lead…his voice lends warmth to the story. This arrangement is like an angelic choir backed by a pipe organ.
This is, as you say, a very powerful piece...and they seem to be talking about brothers in arms around the world. Another one that will hit hard is the cover of Vince Gil's Go Rest High On That Mountain--totally wonderful version. So glad you're staying with Home Free...they have so many good songs to be explored. One of the top is Helplessly Hoping. Thanks for reacting to Home Free.
lyrics are incredible, video has such power. the neglected, remote, desolate cemetery. the light coming thru Tim and Chance as tho they aren't quite real. you need 5-10 times to get it all. "we are fools to make war in our brothers innarms"
Home Free released this just before Veterans Day. They are unapologetically patriotic and have recorded a lot of songs that approach very sensitive social issues. They are great ambassadors for inclusivity and for keeping an open mind to others perspectives. Please check out Everybody Walkin This Land (Make sure to listen to Tim's message at the end), Undivided, One Voice ft Billy Gilman and People ft Jeffrey East. Those are a couple more songs that have powerful messages. Great reactions! ❤
Even for those of us who served during "peaceful" times, the idea of us being "brothers in arms" was very real, and I'm certain it still is. Just as a soldier's life may well depend on the man or woman in the next foxhole, those of us who served on the sea also depended on our shipmates. There is a camaraderie and closeness. Mark Knopfler's brilliant lyrics capture it so succinctly in the one line, "You did not desert me, my brothers in arms." Excellent reaction, and you've gained a new subscriber.
@@larryshair Please, please, pleaseeeeeeee do Coffee Anderson - Mr Red White and Blue. Please. As I said before, you and the viewers, will not be upset.
I feel right along with you Larry. The first time I heard this song it crushed me. How senseless is WAR if and of itself regardless of which side is forcing it and responding to it. Maybe the MOST MOVING song I've ever heard. Thanks for your reaction, as always, thoughtful and insightful.
The background voices sound so much like an organ. Simply beautiful. ❤️ Absolutely not enough words to express my thanks for the brothers and sisters in arms. ❤️
This is an amazing interpretation of an incredible song. It's like hearing the Beatles performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. I would love to hear what Marl Knopfler would say about it.
This is my current Home Free song, unbelievable performance..thank you so much for reacting to it! HF has done many patriotic songs, which I respect so much. Our military and their families have sacrificed so much for the freedom we take for granted. It is a debt we can’t repay, but we should always remember and honor that sacrifice…to anyone who has served…..Thank you! 💝♥️
You should check out Tim Foust's collaboration with fellow Acapella singer Peter Hollens. It's a cover of a song from the Hobbit movie. They are in costume like in the movie. Tim brings the low bass and Peter does the high harmonies. Peter did the video edits and layered his voice over 130 times for a choir effect. It's epic!
Everyone gets to shine in HF and it gives them such an incredible diversity. Whoever suits the song the best takes the lead. They told in an interview that with some song it’s clear from the beginning who will be the best to lead, with others they switch the lead, with some they all try out beforehand to see who is the best. Tim said n an interview they planned to do it with one song, Rob being the first to try and as soon as he started they just looked at each other in agreement that this was his song and the rest don’t even have to try.
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
Thank you for your reverent reaction to this hauntingly beautiful song & the respect you conveyed for our military. My dad fought in Germany in WWII, an uncle was wounded in Korea, my deceased husband was a Marine sniper/squad leader in Vietnam & current was in the Air Force in the Khobar Tower bombing & several other uncles served so I appreciate your kind comments!
Me again Chris just would like to put in a request for your list. Home Free American Pie ft. Don McLean who sang the original In 1971 72 which he still sounds great by the way. Just a suggestion.
My dad was a WW2 vet, and my son served 21 years in the U.S.M.C., including a deployment to Iraq, participating in the bombing of Baghdad. I will never forget watching the explosions on TV, knowing my boy was up there in the air, leading that B-52 in. This song affects me deeply. Thankfully, God brought my boy home safely. You are right; Tim brought the somber tone this song needed. He is amazing.
Just love your reactions to Home Free. Please react to their collaboration with Lee Greenwood and the Air Force Band doing their rendition of Greenwood's "God Bless The USA".
Home Free songs run the full gambit from deep to goofy. Try their cover of Hillbilly Bone for one that’s just a little goofy yet incredible. It’s country and you’ll still love it. Or stay deep and watch their Cover of In the Blood. Or go epic with their cover of How Great Thou Art.
It's a beautiful harmony and haunting also with the bass-heavy song. I almost feel like I am in an empty room with a pipe organ echoing in it. That's what Chance and Tim's bass together sounds like to me.
This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. ... In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. The pure brilliance of Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. Music of Princess Bride was by Mark also
I'm a bit surprised you did not know the original, but this is a worthy version. I recently saw a documentary on youtube about why the Dutch are so grateful to the Canadians who freed them during WW2. Well that was not just the Canadians, but the British, the Americans and the Polish as well. Their sacrifice has liberated my birth country and yes those that know their history are still very very grateful for the bravery of every soldier that gave us back our freedom. Very touching song and your reaction touches me as well.
It's when they hit those notes, full voice, magical harmonies, sounding like a giant cathedral organ, that's when I get those double layers of goose bumps. And I believe this is a cover. I can't remember the original artist, however.
When you said you forgot you were reacting , I completely agree with you ! They have an ability to almost capture you and take you right in . They're incredible ! Love , love ,love the bass . You can almost physically feel deep down inside ! Another wonderful reaction video . I'm really enjoying the ride .
Now I'm going to ask something, which probably you'll think OMG NOOOOO. Will you please react to Elvis Presley singing BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER LIVE. 70.VEGAS the best video, you will see what a wonderful voice he had, this was 52 years ago, no autotune then, you never know you may like it. Please react to it, you'll make my day 🤗..
Surely you've heard the original... Especially for someone in your age bracket. I absolutely love Mark Knopfler. He(and Dire Straits) make some of the most dynamic songs you will ever hear.
So many things hit me in this. The lyrics, the way the background sounds like an organ at a funeral at times. The way the light goes through Tim and Adam when they are at the window, like a ghost. The way Adam looks like the POW flag that flies. Just so much about this hits. Such a beautiful piece. So well done.
20 year veteran of the USAF. This song really hits hard. It's wonderful that now people acknowledge the sacrifices our military members make. But, when I returned from Viet Nam I was lucky to fly into an Air Force base, I had friends who flew into civilian airports. People threw things at them & spit at them.
The same happened to my Marine (Sniper & later squad leader). He had no idea what he was coming home to, but came home 3 weeks early because his mother passed away. It took the Marines 3 days & 2 choppers (shot down) to get him out of the front lines, only to come home to the insanity!
Thanks Larry! This one completely gut punched me and brought me to tears. I forgot to breathe the first time I heard it! I'm a very proud daughter of a deceased highly decorated WW2 Veteran. I never got the opportunity to get to know him, but he is my Hero! This is a hauntingly beautiful video of masterful proportions. For a complete change of direction please check out the video release of Tim's Doo-Wop single from his 1st solo album. It is titled- " COME GO WITH ME " TIM FOUST It's a vibe for sure, I think you will enjoy it very much! From your South Georgia Home Free Home Fry Friend!♥️😀🍟

Tim brings the low bass and Peter does the high harmonies. Peter did the video edits and layered his voice over 130 times for a choir effect. It's epic!
What can be said it's Home Free
Everyone gets to shine in HF and it gives them such an incredible diversity. Whoever suits the song the best takes the lead. They told in an interview that with some song it’s clear from the beginning who will be the best to lead, with others they switch the lead, with some they all try out beforehand to see who is the best. Tim said n an interview they planned to do it with one song, Rob being the first to try and as soon as he started they just looked at each other in agreement that this was his song and the rest don’t even have to try.
Helplessly Hoping and Seven Bridges Road. Both are short so you can do both together.
Thank you so very much. I'm so sorry to hear of your losses. What an unspeakable gift to our country. Many thanks.
I hear you Larry, HF can just suck you in and keep you mesmerized- been there done that! Beautiful song! SALUTE
Thanks so much, Karin. SO appreciated.
You would love their song Land of the free
Lovely and heartfelt reaction.
Thanks you so much!
Thanks for the heads up on Cullen Vance! Listened to several songs and was really impressed, they were beautiful.
Right? What a nice discovery!
That beautiful song shows great respect thank you to all veterans God bless you and our beautiful United States 🇺🇸
This was written by a British band about an British war.
Home Free at their best. Thank you for continuing with Home Free. Great reaction
True. Humans can't do that . Tim and Adam were found in Rockwell, NM.
LOL!!!!!
So powerful, moving and stunningly beautiful.
My husband is a Nam vet. He weeps when he hears this song
Moved me to tears
It's when they hit those notes, full voice, magical harmonies, sounding like a giant cathedral organ, that's when I get those double layers of goose bumps. And I believe this is a cover. I can't remember the original artist, however.
No mater the country we are all brothers in arms respect is always given from one military member to another enemy or friend
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! Haunting and beautiful!! LOVE HOME FREE!❤️
When you said you forgot you were reacting , I completely agree with you ! They have an ability to almost capture you and take you right in . They're incredible ! Love , love ,love the bass . You can almost physically feel deep down inside ! Another wonderful reaction video . I'm really enjoying the ride .
From your comments after the end of the song I feel that you do truly have every right to be here and commenting on this music!
Awww, Elvis! I've seen this one before. I think I've seen everything Elvis has ever done. He was a one in a trillion.
Surely you've heard the original... Especially for someone in your age bracket. I absolutely love Mark Knopfler. He(and Dire Straits) make some of the most dynamic songs you will ever hear.
I am so happy to see your reaction to this one! Thank you!
Hope you enjoyed it : )
So many things hit me in this. The lyrics, the way the background sounds like an organ at a funeral at times. The way the light goes through Tim and Adam when they are at the window, like a ghost. The way Adam looks like the POW flag that flies. Just so much about this hits. Such a beautiful piece. So well done.
Loved this one. Blessings!
Having, as a soldier in more than one war heard your reaction, it means a lot more than "Thank you for your service."
Blessings, brother
20 year veteran of the USAF. This song really hits hard. It's wonderful that now people acknowledge the sacrifices our military members make. But, when I returned from Viet Nam I was lucky to fly into an Air Force base, I had friends who flew into civilian airports. People threw things at them & spit at them.
Yes, they did. My husband is a Viet Nam vet.
Thank you so very much for your service! So deeply appreciated.
The same happened to my Marine (Sniper & later squad leader). He had no idea what he was coming home to, but came home 3 weeks early because his mother passed away. It took the Marines 3 days & 2 choppers (shot down) to get him out of the front lines, only to come home to the insanity!
@@mjackson780 Mine was a Marine Viet Nam vet also. He didn't die in Nam but he died at barely 55 partly because of it.
@@usmadgirl3074 I am so sorry for his early death.
It is titled-
" COME GO WITH ME " TIM FOUST
It's a vibe for sure, I think you will enjoy it very much! From your South Georgia Home Free Home Fry Friend!♥️😀🍟
Thank you Louise. So sorry to hear about your father. What an incredible gift to our country. Thank you.
Hey Larry, please check out How Great Thou Art by Home Free. That last part is gonna blow your hair like BOSE 🤣
