Hey Stud Pack - just wanted to thank you for all of this helpful information! I work at a lumber yard in Kansas and am learning so very much from you guys! Appreciate all your hard work and the channel!
I had a Hotstream electric water heater from 11/77, and it lasted until November or December of 2018! It started slowly leaking. It was only serving the laundry room when I got the house in 2005. My main water heater is another Hotstream which is gas-fired, and it is from 1991!
Old school stud pack. Awesome!
Mine is 34 years old, Glass lined Electric. Other than replacing both the heater coils in the last 10 years it's worked fine.
Good to know that Louisiana has high quality water. My water heater (in Louisiana) is 20 years old and I just changed the anode rod. The old anode rod looked similar to the one you showed, maybe not quite as bad.
So there's hope for my water heater that 24 years old. I changed the anode rod 4 years ago and dip tube 7 years ago. Fingers crossed!
One of 8 kids? That explains the amicable attitude.
Fascinating stuff! 👏
Great content!
Replaced a similar old gas with an electric . My utility bill went down !?!
I don’t use a lot of hot water . But an electric tank is better insulated
Amazing i didnt know this??? West coast were???
good for new starter to fix water tank .
DOPE !
can the dip tube be changed?
I understand a belly but can you put a 90° coupling as long is it’s flowing downward?
Did you just use a sawzall to cut it?
How did you manage to cut through that steel? What did you use and how long did it take?
Cutoff wheel on a grinder 👍
i’ve seen people using a saws all and a circular saw saw .
damn thats a very high quality water heater. Won't even last that long in San Antonio.
Hi, What tool did you use for cutting?
Grinder
Cutoff wheel
mine is 40yrs old. replacing it. afraid its going to leak
Rad!
I live in hawaii and cant get over the fact that where you live they put hot water heaters in the attic. What happens when it leaks???Would think that would be disasterous
They are installed sitting in a sheet metal pan that is piped to the outside. Modern code requires a 1" drain.
@@StudPack But what if the failing water heater is a sprayer?
@@DanEBoyd Then you call up your home insurance rep and get a fat check to replace all the water damage.
@@Woodsyx2 Fat check? Insurance companies are in the business of low-balling these claims.
@@DanEBoyd Had that happen with a water heater in the walk-in closet of my apartment. I was out of town, there was a malfunction, & the pressure valve (did its job and) started spraying hot water all over the place. Half the stuff in my closet was ruined; but it was my downstairs neighbor who took it on the chin. They lost about half their bedroom furniture & the contents of of two closets, & it took the landlord about a week to replace sheetrock & make other repairs. It was a disaster, and a stone mess.
Mine just sprung a lesk at the ripe old age of 29 years
You think that’s amazing ours is 39 years old and just broke, but here’s the kicker we have absolutely horrible we’ll water that is almost rust it’s so bad, completely undrinkable yet it still lasted.
They DONT build them liek they used to
