'You have this figure, who is like a f***ing ninja.' ROFLMAO. I never thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right. He deftly scales fences, disappears from behind impossibly long hedges and opens windows from outside the house. He'd give Batman a run for his money.
Just been powering through your entire back catalogue of reviews after finding you guys here on youtube. Really enjoying them, been great to see your views on many of my favourite 80's classics and cult favourites. Thanks guys appreciate all the entertainment :o)
I love you two guys. Your reviews are awesome and offers great insight not just a brief synopsis. I also love the English accent. I also give you 2 thumb ups for being Carpenter fans. I have my subscription for life, my friends.
Definitely. I think that the scene where Michael is in the doorway and you can just about see him is the scariest and most atmospheric scene in the film though.
In terms of reviews, this is my best personal Channel +Off The Shelf Reviews ! To Gary and Iain: The difference between you and the other similar channels is that you guys are doing it with awesome passion and with the Heart !!! #CinemaForever #MovieFanatic #JohnCarpenterAddict
In the first film, audiences are surprised when young Michael is unmasked because in that famous first scene (that long take where we see through his POV), this POV is the height of an adult. We simply assume this is a grownup because the camera is not looking up at things. It's one of those things that occur to you after watching the movie so many times.
Well done. Watched your JAWS and JII and Halloween and HII reviews. Nice to throw the nudity into your reviews. Perfect. I've seen all of these hundreds of times and you did a good job in celebrating their genius. Anything afer the second ones was a waste of time. Quick nod to the JII review pointing out the yellow barrel in front of the Brody house - never noticed that before and that's hard to slip past me being such a big fan. Not sure if you did already but Terminator serives would round this off nicely for me. Thanks again.
The first film is my favourite followed by number 3, Season of the Witch. I’m glad that it’s finally being recognised as a horror cult classic. As for the original Halloween film, it’s one of the best horror films of all time. I love the way that the atmosphere and the sense of dread in every scene scares me shitless!! Much scarier than a bloodbath and people getting chopped up every 5 minutes.
Halloween is a Masterpiece!!! It still holds up and never bores me. Halloween II is a solid sequel, despite having some questionable character decisions and a twist not really making that much sense, its fun watching both Original Halloween films back to back.
Good in depth analysis of both quality films. I do think however for your next one you should do No.3 only and then another video for No. 4 & 5 for obvious reasons! Keep up the good work!
Marcus Pinkney Thanks Marcus, however this is a re-uploaded review from last year. Part 3 and 4 is in the same video and will be re-uploaded tomorrow morning. Thanks for watching
It’s definitely the soundtrack that makes the film scary. Apparently the film was played to a test audience without the music added to it and the people didn’t think it was that scary or even like it that much.
Always liked the two as companion piece. The first is a classic yes. The second one is at a bit lower standard but still a good flick. 1.) 8.5/10 2.) 7/10
Because it was terrifying and shocking based purely on subtle direction, atmosphere, strong characters and performances. It's all more impressive to do that without having to use lots of gore or to crack up the sound etc...
I find it's hilarious that when you guys are talking about Nick Castle in one part of this video you show Tony Moran's sequence! It's really ironic, because Moran, usually more than not takes full credit as playing Michael for the entirety the first & second film!
6:00 there were 6 masks that the prop woman bought at a store #1 : 3 different clown masks # 2 : a WEREWOLF mask # 3 : a pumpkin mask they used it in part 3 # 4 : Captain Kirk I think they chose the best one
I was always afraid of horror movies growing up even when I hit 20 then I decided I got to get over this and watched Halloween and really enjoyed it and I've been watching good horror movies ever since. I'm 22 now
the original idea was called Black Christmas John Carpenter changed it to Halloween because it was a more scary holiday He obviously never spent Christmas with my family
@@abegarfield3754 there was a REAL LIFE STALKER in 1940 at age 20 that was a SILENT PSYCHOPATH that escaped from an ASYLUM and remained on the loose until his death he was a fan of JACK THE RIPPER and called himself JOLLY JACK
fun fact the studio was shown a rough cut of Michael Myers watching Laurie at school they said it wasn't scary John Carpenter added music they loved it
02:09 And yet Chainsaw came before even Halloween. I would argue Chainsaw was the first True Modern Slasher. Maybe Psycho, even if it held back much more than later films would. 24:17 Not as much a big deal to me. He still could've done that while Loomis and the Sheriff we're still having their "I shot him six times!" scene and Laurie was being loaded up to go to the hospital.
Now, as much as I dig HII, talk about plot holes. What hospital has as their staff, 1 doctor, 3 nurses, 2 ambulance drivers and 1 security guard? No wonder he killed off the staff.
i noticed Loomis s bullets were like 6 at the end of part 1 but was like 8 at the start of part 2 as Myers gets shot from the balcony. or something very similar.
I was ten years old when this movie was in the theater, I was seeing a movie called ice castles in the next cinema that Halloween was playing in. I told my uncle that I was gonna go to the washroom, I decided to sneak into Halloween. I was able to see Halloween for five minutes, the part I saw was when Michael killed bob in the kitchen, when Michael popped out of the closet and grabbed bob the whole theater started screaming. I was watching it from the entrance of the cinema, I tensed up when the audience screamed, it did not help much when I felt a tap on my shoulder...it was the usher. "What movie are you supposed to be seeing?" He asked. I told him " ice castles" he looked at me and said. "I suggest you better go back there now" So I went back with my tail between my legs. lol.
Can anyone answer why in H2 they reshot Myers/The Shape falling off the balcony? They used H1 footage of Loomis shooting him in the bedroom but then completely changed where Myers/The Shape is in the house and where he falls. The original he falls out of a bedroom in the rear of the house from a covered balcony, then in H2 makes him fall from the front of the house. H1 22:43 and then H2 reshoot at 23:25 It begs the question, why not just use all the footage from the scene?!?
Really enjoyed this review, and like the take you had on it, as I can can agree that this is still a great little film that could, just too bad that Hollywood took away all the base tropes, with none of the awesomeness that made it work so well.
...@ 20:20 that's my favorite goosepimply moment as well ---> reminiscent of "eric' from the original "house on sorority row" -----> that ending will give you chills too (fact)
Yeh, it's a fun sequel, but but I always liked the anthology idea of Carpenter making a different movie to celebrate Halloween every few years...... Have the OG Halloween then jump straight to Season Of The Witch as H2 and then keep going in that manner instead.
Dr Loomis is like Noah, or maybe Moses, trying to tell people that an unstoppable force was about to be unleashed upon them. Since it is an old horror trope that slashers only kill people who are breaking societal rules, Michael is like the angel of Death, ravaging the sinful youth.
logan callahan Iain meant to say that Nick Castle performed Michael Myers while wearing the mask (hence him being known as The Shape), while Tony Moran in the first film was seen only for a short time.
This was my first horror film I ever watched when I was about six years old! Ever since then I’ve been in love with horror films! And all things horror!
I admire the original 'Halloween'. It's lean film-making, but of a superior technical level to most films. I'm willing to overlook it's flaws because of that and the talent involved in making it. But it is a one-shot concept. There's nowhere for the story or characters to go after the first film. Raising the stakes / gore level isn't viable, because it's just an artificially escalated re-thread. The concept has been thoroughly mined by the end of the first film. I haven't seen 'Halloween 2' (apart from the final scenes) and I think Carpenter was wise to step back from it.
Yeah, that's the one stumbling block I've had to flag in their opening review of the sequel. It's true, not everyone is a critic wanting to nitpick and take apart a movie. They prefer having a good time and being entertained. However, there is a balance you can strike in which entertainment can be derived from good craftsmanship, excellent writing, memorable acting, and the experience of seeing a good film unfold on the big screen. And not every 20 year old is willing to turn their brain off, have their senses pandered or their tastes patronized. A critic pointing out the drawbacks of adding gore and T&A just for the sake of attracting an audience and not as it pertains to the story has a valid point.
I only like the original and actually Rob Zombies remake is pretty good in its own way. I thought Halloween 2 1981 though is an awful sequel to the classic original.. Suspense is far scarier than gore.
That’s why the anthology idea that was explored in ‘ Season of the Witch ‘ was a very good idea. The only problem was having Halloween 3 in the title of the film. Most people thought they were getting Michael again. Which was such a shame because imagine where they could have gone with an anthology series. Missed opportunity in my opinion.
This will always be the defining timeline for me. HALLOWEEN 1978 10/10 The horror begins. H II 6/10 With end where Jimmy survives. H IV 8/10 Laurie and (Jimmy?) gone. Torch passes to Rachel. H V 🥶 9.5/10 🥶 Torch passes to Tina, and new threat comes in. 🥶 H VI PC ✝ 9.5/10 ✝ Grab your crucifix. Michael is only a piece of the evil. ✝
How did Michael know where to find his sister's grave? Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 was the best of the franchise. The original Halloween is only memorable because it broke the mold of this genre. Though I agree, Donald Pleasance gave a standout performance.
Michael Meyers is the boogeyman. Loomis unloaded the cylinder into him and he just disappears. I like just thinking of the original on its own. John Carpenter is the king of eerie, dark, apocalyptic ambiguity. You can see him as a supernatural force or just a madman. It’s 38 caliber and without modern bullet tech you could argue he just walked away to die off screen. Either way. Great reviews! Thanks and obviously watching these in run up to the season.
You guys make an excellent point about how this film invites us to be voyeurs of everyday people living normal lives. It’s the tension between this normalcy and the evil force easily disrupting it that is so compelling. Moments of certain Friday the 13th films also achieve this uncomfortable dichotomy between innocence and horror.
Tom Ffrench I disagree. I think Halloween 2 1981 version was the best in the series for the sequels. It stayed true to the classic and felt like a continuation to the first movie. Honestly it’s my personal favorite outta the whole series. It’s was very creepy setting atmosphere was just amazing. Who likes hospitals anyways? Just though a killer walking the halls it’s a done deal.
I took these two movies and dubbed them together in a way where you can't tell when one stops and two starts. They come together at the end of one right after loomis shoots him the first time and turns the corner and Michael's standing there breathing. Then when loomis goes out and tells the neighbor you don't know what death is I cut out all the credits of two and it picks up right before he goes in the old couples house. Y'all should try watching them that way and you'll forget they're separate movies.
I think Halloween 2 is underrated and probably the best of the sequels, but it's not perfect. It seems to have been shot on cheaper film than the first one (or maybe it just hasn't had the same restoration treatment). The middle third of the movie is a drag, as we watch various secondary characters wander around. Michael is obviously played by a different actor from the first film. And I think the car crash in the first part of the film is the most spectacular and dramatic moment, meaning the rest of the film is a bit of an anticlimax. I agree that Halloween 1 and 2 make a great double bill.
I like John Carpenter, I love all of his movies and as for the original Halloween, I will say is the best slasher movie ever made and as for the rest of the Halloween movies, just didn't make the grade like the original.
John Carpenter and Debra Hill didn;t want to do another Halloween film. it was in both contracts that they do a sequel, afterward they signed a deal to make the series an anthology franchise, but do to the failure of HIII, that was abandoned and H4 brought Michael back.
When I listen to someone who's from across the pond, I always notice all the terms we never use here in America. "Cinema" is one. I know that's probably the proper term, but we're Americans, we think whatever we say is the proper term. lol We're the only country that doesn't use the metric system, yet, we call the other one "standard" 😂
I was watching a couple of other reactors who claimed to love these movies The comment that got me to turn them off was why was Dr. Loomis so much more crazy and part two Well, maybe it’s because in part one he was chasing an escaped mental patient who he thought was pure evil But part two he’s chasing a person who took six shots to the chest and a 20 foot drop and just got up and walked away inside of about five seconds If he wasn’t crazy and terrified, he should be committed himself
Some people don't like the fact that Michael was Laurie's sister. But for me, it was a great twist and IMO, that is why Michael is specifically after her. In a way, he's the antithesis of a big brother. A big brother is supposed to look out for and protect his little sister, but Michael is hellbent on destroying her. And why? IMO, it just seems he is as Dr. Loomis says, pure evil, and just hates the fact that he has a familial bond with anyone.
'You have this figure, who is like a f***ing ninja.' ROFLMAO. I never thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right. He deftly scales fences, disappears from behind impossibly long hedges and opens windows from outside the house. He'd give Batman a run for his money.
salute to you guys from the US!
it would have been Very interesting to hear Peter Cushing say " Lonnie get your ass away from there!"
The finale in this film between Loomis and Myers is just awesome. Loomis's intensity as he sacrifices himself to destroy Myers, just awesome.
And perfect. They should've left it alone and quit while they were ahead.

+Duckodb _ You got a link to this?
+Brother Malachai No its not on the internet its jut a thing I did for myself on dvd.
they don't show this one much on AMC around Halloween, they show the first one then 4&5
What's your guys ranking of the Halloween movies
I think Halloween 2 is underrated and probably the best of the sequels, but it's not perfect. It seems to have been shot on cheaper film than the first one (or maybe it just hasn't had the same restoration treatment). The middle third of the movie is a drag, as we watch various secondary characters wander around. Michael is obviously played by a different actor from the first film. And I think the car crash in the first part of the film is the most spectacular and dramatic moment, meaning the rest of the film is a bit of an anticlimax.
I agree that Halloween 1 and 2 make a great double bill.
Phantasm 2 also starts off where the first one ends.
I like John Carpenter, I love all of his movies and as for the original Halloween, I will say is the best slasher movie ever made and as for the rest of the Halloween movies, just didn't make the grade like the original.
Punisher XS I agree 100%
New to your channel love it
The Michael Myers mask was for sale at a Kiosk for $50.00 I Couldn't afford it in the Early 1990's .
Saw the trailer for the new Halloween so I went and watched this again since it seems to disregard everything after 2
What about that cute PJ Soles? "See anything you like?" Yeah baby I see 2 things I like
the kid with bloody mouth i think was orginally supposed to have suffered a razor in an apple.
Michael was shot 7 times at the start of HII?
actually they corrected it in H2. it was Halloween 1 that had the 7 shots
Yankeefan24 I just said that
I was watching a couple of other reactors who claimed to love these movies
The comment that got me to turn them off was why was Dr. Loomis so much more crazy and part two
Well, maybe it’s because in part one he was chasing an escaped mental patient who he thought was pure evil
But part two he’s chasing a person who took six shots to the chest and a 20 foot drop and just got up and walked away inside of about five seconds
If he wasn’t crazy and terrified, he should be committed himself

the NBC version of part 1 i love best part 2s NBC version i haven t seen in awhile.
Hslloween is literally the best horror film..fantastic script and fantastic story...literally awsome and literally fantastic
Saw 5, 6 and 7 followed up right where the last one ended. Not sure about the rest though
