    My hypothetical go to is the Cut Kick, where you step off with the rear and hook kick their supporting leg. Seems hard to defend against and it keeps you out of range of their counter punch. I probably learned it from Sifu Mark Stewart.
    I say hypothetical, because I don't spar enough, so I haven't really tested it under pressure. Recreational/fitness martial artist here.

    I have found defending with the upper shin / knee to be very effective and frequently damages the attacker.

    Teep to the hip is a great interception and cut kick to their lead leg is awesome if you can pull it off!

    The first defense is a weaker version of a basic Thai method. Instead of planting and taking, you step in to the arc shorting it and improving the punch. Still got to trust your thigh is conditioned enough though.

    I found doing the intercepting sidekick is easier for me to jam their kicks. When you have the time check out Art Fists of Fury vs Kyle Burns. I lost the fight but I demonstrate the intercepting sidekick against a bigger opponent. Great video!!

    of these interceptions work great. I'll add one more since this video is talking intercepting specifically. Side teeps and teeps to the hips in general work wonders against heavy roundhouse kicks. In fact, get good at intercepting with teeps and you automatically nullify half the round kicks thrown at you

    Muai Thai kicks with the shin are either shin check or arm check just above the knee. Think bil sau but upside down.

    Dealing with leg kicks means pain... a lot of pain ... I personally hate them! I usually try to get out of range, if I can´t get away I set in with the right hand and try to go for clinch or takedown from there.

    that jab maybe is going to work one time...at the end you defend the thai kick as how muay thai would defend it. You have a variation of countering, intercepting or even avoid it. but that jab against a fast and hard thaikick wont work.

    • @101289teutonicguy
      @101289teutonicguy 2 года назад

      It'll work as long as it isn't a wimpy distraction jab but actually has weight behind it. When you're kicking you only have 1 point of contact and punching to the head while in that state makes you a big lever that's fairly easy to push on.

    Not bad instructional videos I do see somethings that you left out like the important of timing or distancing to the counters and explain cutting or catching to people who new to JKD. Explain the concepts of Stop Hits and bridging the gap in defending the round kick or round house kick. Not a lot people practice the ball of the foot when throwing those kicks. I love the intro and outro awesome editing. Also you didn't cover Leg destruction which is another good way to counter those kicks.

    Steel tip shoes from Walmart for $35 and a straight front kick to the shin will do just fine. Also, anyone who throws a leg kick from a standstill position deserves to get hit in the head. Always sidestep the guy first throw your arm high so that he looks at your hand and throw that leg kick into the back side of their calf. This is coming from a skinny 4th degree black belt in kyokushin and then some.... not that anyone cares.

    • @markmessi9020
