      I say 5 mile radius (unless they want to pay a special fee for each additional mile and that all comes to the driver).

      10 is still too much because there's a very high likelihood we have to deadhead back to our spot. I rarely go more than 5 miles unless it's a $20 involved in there. I also live in a very high cost of living area and there's plenty of upper class neighborhoods all around me. They need to stop being so cheap.

Yes the gig apps are squeezing every penny they can to turn a profit, but the real reason gig apps are drying up is people are sick of being gouged for delivery and increased restaurant prices. Hard to believe? I don't doubt that! It's true anyways, just not how you are thinking. I own my own 1 person delivery business. I work only in a 4 square mile area of my city. I offer $5 flat rate delivery from any restaurant in my zone to any address in my zone.
      I drive the $2 app deliveries in order to find new customers. It's less than free advertising... it pays me. And the customer reality of using an app service in that the $2 order actually cost the customer $7. And I'll do it for $5 off app.
      As for vehicle costs, I ride a $3k scooter that gets 100+ mpg. All of my trips are under 4 miles, most under 2 miles. Because I have so many "cheap" customers, I'm usually stacking 2-4 orders at a time. Which puts me at $3.50 a mile on a scooter that costs 5 pennies a mile to operate.
      I call it delivery alchemy... the process of turning $2 orders into gold.

    If you want the true picture of just how unconsciously greedy these gig-app companies are, you need to get all the information about some of these orders.
    (1) Total amount paid by the end customer. A complete break down of all the fees & charges. Including if the menu prices were marked up.
    (2) Total amount of fees paid by the restaurant. How much did the restaurant actually net from the order after all fees?
    (3) Amount paid to driver, in the context of the time & miles.
    In summary, of all the money paid by the end customer (excluding tip):
    - How much went to the gig-company?
    - How much went to the restaurant?

  • @garyjuhl
    @garyjuhl 4 месяца назад +5

    I’m pretty sure the reason we aren’t getting paid what we used to get paid is because of the monthly charge that the customers pay to get free deliveries. I believe Uber slashed our pay because a lot of the drivers who choose the monthly delivery fee don’t feel that they have an obligation to tip anymore because they know they will get their deliveries, no matter what worried if the driver is compensated fairly or not

  • @garyjuhl
    @garyjuhl 4 месяца назад +5

    The answer is yes the customers are paying less because they are paying a monthly fee in order to get free deliveries. When they do this, a lot of them, don’t give tips. They feel that Uber should pay us and not them because they already did when they choose the monthly fee.

    If you think 42 miles for $29 is bad try the flat rate idea for a day. They force you to take everything. My first order was 22 miles to deliver Walgreens. Zero tip and the customer lived 1.2 miles away from another Walgreens. Then I had a 43 mile trip trip that took an hour and 16 minutes to deliver a Sonic ice cream for $1 tip. Once I arrived I saw a Sonic in the rear view mirror from their house. It's the biggest scam alive. Ice cream was turned to milk even in the cold bag.

    I know why they're giving you restaurants from so far away. We got Uber one for free because of the type of credit card we have and they constantly send me 40% off coupons that ends up making having food delivered be absolutely free compared to the cost in store. However only certain stores are eligible for this. For example I wanted to order some wings from Chili's which is a mile from my house but it wasn't eligible for the 40% off coupon only the one downtown was so people who are getting that coupon are ordering it from whatever restaurant it allow them to get the discount from

It also had me jump on the expressway and go all the way to Chicago from the south suburbs (30 minute drive, and drove 15 minutes to get the order). The fact customers can adjust the tip should not be allowed, no "pledging" tips.

    Uber has so much data they could inform the customer:
    A) The location isn't the closest to you (Uber can very likely show you a farther location because they have deals on food or delivery, which may be the source of many of these extremely backwards orders under $0.50 per mile)
    B) Let the customer know that based on their tip combined with other factors like traffic, weather, distance then what is their likelyhood of actually getting it delivered
    C) Then tell them it is likely their order will be batched and driver will not be accountable for cold food/warm drinks
    D) Tell Serial baiters that Uber will hide their tip amount but pay it immediately upon delivery
    E) I have spoken

    I have been pondering the far low rate uberEats orders that I get. I believe its because either noone is in that area to accept it at the time or request. or (and most often) its the low rate/no tip reequests that uberEat deliverers do not accept. If a request isnt accepted I imagine it goes to trip radar, and offered to the next closest deliverer, and keep going out further until someone gets the customer their food. and depending on where they order from, the request goes to the restaurant closest to the deliverer that accepts it. the establishment doesn't usually make the orders until a delivery is accepted. A lot of times, i imagine, if you go to a place that already has it made, someone accepted it and then canceled.. of course I can't confirm that.
