One would sit in front of the speakers for as long as the music played, and at other times would often come to me and meow before running back to the speakers as if asking me to play more music. Not only cats. I've seen video of animals of every type listening to music. The sound captivates them. Sounds of nature tend to be random and chaotic. Whereas music is structured and measured. Animals have highly tuned senses auditory, visual,tactile and olfactory. They can likely experience music in ways humans can only hope to comprehend. It would be like a human seeing a different dimension beyond the one we currently occupy.

    i think it's more likely the higher pitch of violins etc. extended for several seconds makes all their whiskers feel "funny", cat whiskers are important for space perception and cats seems to be really sensibile about them. As example if you make noises with an hair comb near them (while not touching them at all) cats feels itchy and some even experience gag reflex. I think it's waaay more plausible than synesthesia..

      It could be some of both, spacial distortion crossing with another sense. I have touch -taste synesthesia myself: I'm literally able to taste certain things when they touch my hands and inner arms. So I tend to think out of the box and calculate multiple possibilities. 🤔🧐🤓

    • @Homodemon
      @Homodemon Год назад +23

      Yeah I thought so too, cat's whiskers are not like hairs, more like they're made of something akin to your fingernails, a keratin like filament that does not end on a follicle like a hair more like it it born from the last nervous layer present on muscle, they're like hardened nerves, they run in super deep and if you're a cat owner, look at their front and back paws, they'll probably have one whisker in their ankles too, those help with foot positioning alongside their tail that helps with balance.
      So that's why they're very sensitive to stimulus and vibrations. They can orientate themselves thanks to them, gauge distance between objects relative to their own mass, and the whispers will always be the same horizontal size as the cat itself, so whenever they're able to get their head through, they can make the body fit too.
      They can also be replaced across their lives, sometimes they might fall but don't worry, your kitty probably grew it back already, I always compare them to milk teeth.

One of my cats was so interested in what I was doing he would come over every time and put his paw in the way to see if he could interfere. If course I let him! He'd look at me with HUGE eyes as to say, "HOW YOU DO THAT!?"
    LOL
    There was one that really liked a particular luliby I wrote and he'd come running and curl up, looking and purring himself to sleep when I'd play it. I'm still not sure what he associated with it but he definitely liked it.
