    This Song is 40 years old and was released 3 times before it finally charted in the UK. The video used an old technique called Rotoscope and every single animated part you see had to be drawn by hand back then. This was a ground breaking Song & Video in 1984.

    One of the greatest, most cutting edge videos of the time! It is still one of my favorite songs of my teen years, I was 13 when it came out.
    a-ha was not really a one hit wonder, but in America, they only had a few songs. One of my favorites was "The Sun Always Shines On TV". But they were popular enough to do a James Bond theme song...the title song for The Living Daylights in 1987, starring Timothy Dalton in his first outing as 007.That song was written by a-ha's guitarist Pal Waaktaar and Bond music maestro John Barry.

      The video effect, rotoscoping, had been around for 100 years at that point. Its popularity faded in the 1940s as quicker and cheaper effects were developed. So some of us had seen it before. Still a damn good video.

    Greatest Norwegian band. Morten Harket still looks good to this day. In the US they had a few hits but then our radios stopped playing their music. They were more popular in Europe after a few hits here because we didn't get to hear anything else by them until RUclips came around. They did an MTV UNPLUGGED out of Norway.

  • @doomhunter697
    @doomhunter697 5 месяцев назад +5

    The graphic style, rotoscoping, was 100 years old at that time. It is very labor intensive and expensive. so it was never used that much. They had a crew working 16 weeks to hand trace over each frame of the video.

    One thing about music videos in the 80s, they pushed a lot of boundaries in film making. They were cheaper than movies to produce, so they took more risks like having half of it drawn in black and white or using very early CGI.

    The song also showcases lead singer Morten Harket's stunning vocal range. Very few songs are written to emphasize a male singer's 4 octave range, so this is very unusual. Anyway, a lot of people think A-ha was a one-hit wonder, but they had a second hit with their song "The Sun Always Shines on TV."
