Wrong Russia refines 1/3 or something ridiculously high of the world's supply. Russia will put its people and army first over Americans and Europeans who they are at war with. The poorest country's will face all the shortage problems, the rest of us will pay higher prices from inflation and scarcity. When production is so low in Russia that it becomes a problem for Russia and not for NATO, then they might defend them heavily.

Europe and the US could have done more but chose not to. The truth is their manufacturing capacity is limited and they are now desperately trying to restart it. There is still not enough shells going into Ukraine. The Ukrainians are tired of seeing their families and friends die in constant bombing raids and the hourly alarms. Some of the soldiers have been fighting for two years without rotation and morale has dropped making it harder to get recruits. Meanwhile the West ties Ukraine's hands by restricting the use of their weapons when ruzzia faces no such restrictions. Germany refuses to give Taurus.

Because "there was nothing to do, nothing to entertain so alcohol became a pass time activity." The ussr was far behind in consumer goods and enterteinment almost by 10 years to western markets and many were usually made out of necessity rather than naturaly. In the end the real issue was the stagnation in communist countries.
Of course the consumption of alcohol predates the ussr and goes as far as the russian empire, the main focus for it was to keep the general populous docile, the less critical thinkers there are the less likely they will see the holes in the system.

Given that surveillance of all the battlefield is complete for both sides in real-time now, surprise ground attacks are basically impossible. This leads to a meat grinder war of attrition that Russia is going to win. Any ground that has been lost is going to be fortified same as last year. Mine fields etc. Frontal assaults to re-take are unlikely to succeed. I recommend we start playing 3D chess and start making the UkranianUkranimobile cavalry. Blackhawks not F16's.
