Hollywood don't have the public interest in tv and movies like the 1990s and 80s. He actually rode his wave. You expect everyone to be a Johnny Depp but even he had his time.
Okay, it is time to set the record straight. Prior to Nolan's take on the Batman, the fact is comic book films were actually based on not just comic book source material, but on what comic books were originated for--ENTERTAINMENT. The early 2000s version of Fantastic Four (and its sequel) were like this as well. So, IF you were like me, then growing up you read comics for the exciting Sci-Fi packed stories, the fights between heroes and villains with superpowers, and the experience of imagining I was part of the team who battled the villain. That is what the early Batmen films did. They played with the idea of kids growing up reading comic books--not for THE MESSAGE, in fact I was an adult when I first heard that the 1970s X-Men comic books had some kind of MESSAGE, but for the adventure and fun. Nolan changed all of that. So, today, after seeing Dark Knight, Capt. America Winter Soldier and even The Boys, we can't just look back and see these Batman and the FF films for the mindless entertainment that they were. Instead, we whine about how the MESSAGE and ESG has ruined modern entertainment. I suggest that we hark back to Batman Forever, the 2000s Spiderman films and even the FF film with it's sequel and simply enjoy the fun. The mindless entertainment that they were intended to be. Stop being so JADED. It seems to me that the more experiences we have the less excitement experiences of the past hold for us. This is not a good mindset because if is akin to the way of the Thrill seeker. Sure, as a kid a Thrill seeker used his bike to jump off an old ironing board propped up on a cinderblock, but today he would not see that as trilling--the way he did back then. Likewise, he would have been thrilled to jump out of a plane, but later in life he would deem that jump--even the first time--less thrilling than the base jump he is revving up for now. It is the same with films.
