I must admit I was skeptical at the beginning but you proved me wrong, once again. Loved when your son came and hugged you … you’ve raised such sweet boys Mary.
I love how your piece turned out but more than that, I love how you followed up at the end to share your mistakes and experiences with us! Not many youtubers do that, Mary, and it helps us to keep an eye out for pitfalls when we are making products like milk paint at home. So appreciated that you did that!
I have an old cook book of my grandma Combes’s, it was a farm bureau one. It had all these recipes for common things toothpaste, hand cream, those kind of things. I am going to write your recipe on there with your name. What a fun video!
I loved the partially stripped look of the drawers that you stained over. It gave it the most interesting character. Would never have thought to do that. And who knew you could make your own milk paint? That had to be pretty inexpensive as well I would think. Thanks for the great video. Listening to you trying to talk above the deafening sound of nature around you at the beginning was nothing less than charming. It almost felt like we were sitting there with you on your porch!
First, I love how your life goes on while filming. Kids and husbands and cats coming and going. Grown sons hugging moms always gets to me. Second. If you try white and need to add a colorant (if it’s not white enough on it’s own) I have a cookie business where I decorate cookies with royal icing and I use titanium dioxide (food grade) in my icing to make it whiter. It’s a powder. It’s in lots of foods and other products. It super whitens.
Mary, that dresser turned out beautiful! I love the old character you can see peeking through the paint (dings, nail holes, etc) and I love that you are now comfortable enough in front of the camera to be in your bare feet and wiggle your toes lol!
Thank you Mary! It’s always such a pleasure to watch you create and recreate so many beautiful things. I’ve watched you for quite awhile and I’m not surprised that whatever you set your mind to do works. So now I’m seeing a “White Cottage Co. Covers” (your own brand of milk paint) in your future. The skies the limit Mary.
Making your own paint was such a great idea!! By the way, the lime neutralizes the acid in the vinegar. That way you aren’t left with an acidic coating on your wood.
I look forward to your weekly videos so much! You are always a delightful person, so true and good about everything you do. I am always hoping for your continued, and well-deserved success in all the things you are trying. I am so impressed with all your technology. Just know that most of us out here just love you! You are a great business woman and you have achieved a wonderful balance with life, family and nature! So inspiring! May God bless you and your family.
I think you are such a cool lady. I love that you make mistakes and tell us about them. You are a very gifted lady that I truly admire. Thanks for the entertainment, God bless.
It was a humble piece but now it is so lovely! I do like the darker color paint, and the wax finish made such a difference. I like that you left all the history of the chest stay, all the dings and gouges it earned through use. Thank you for doing all the research for us. Now--why buy commercial paint? We are in a serious drought where I live, so thank you for the soothing, peaceful sounds of rain. 🥰
Please send the rain here. British Columbia Canada is on fire. We were on Evacuation Alert but off now. Some of our friends have lots their homes. Please pray for rain for us! I love watching your videos & I get so many ideas. Thank You ❤
I just love old dressers that are 'beefy' looking, suitable for a man. The paint and wood combo worked out great!. You amaze me with trying to make your own paint. God bless you and yours.
Well done...enjoyed the process. It might be more economical to make opposed to store bought. The dresser does remind me of something you'd find at Granny's. Just lovely.
Thank you for this. I have a small pine chest that is about 70 y/o. I knew I wanted to do something special with it and I think now I have the color scheme.. Thank you Mary
What a beautiful beautiful piece! Amazing job Mary! I LOVE the look of it too! And I like the idea of you making your own paint....trial and error turned into treasure! Thank you for sharing!
I love the chest of drawers. The color is lovely and the matte finish!! Thank you for doing all the hard work for us in making the paint!! Can't wait to try it out. Lovely as always.
Mary, loved this video and the dresser turned out beautifully. Thank you for all your ideas and tips they are so greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day my friend. 💕
I love how the dresser turned out! At first I wondered why you’d want to make your own paint ( other than to try something new) and then when you mentioned chemicals I thought how it would be so nice to have paint without chemicals. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Hi there, I enjoyed this video. It was very interesting watching you make paint. I loved the way it turned out. I love the color 💕. Thank you for all our videos. I also love your candles too 💕😊
You may or may not have known but there has actually been a paint shortage in some areas around Atlanta. I’d heard of making paint, years ago, and just never tried it but I’m totally impressed with your recipe and results. I liked the first shade of gray that you used but I also liked the 2nd one, very much. I will price each part and add it all to get a total before I try it but I feel like it is far less than $30.00 a gallon, like the neighborhood store paint costs. Thank you Miss Mary- we just love you and are so thankful for all you do. And sharing it!
That cabinet is gorgeous and looks amazing! Love the transformation and the mixture of wood and the dark paint. I'm impressed that you made your own paint!
Gorgeous results!!! I did a piece in exactly same colors! An old dresser with wheels too!! Gotta love old furniture!! I love your newspaper print wallpaper. I have used it in drawers and also on top of bedside and half moon tables!!
Thank you for the tutorial & telling us about the mistakes too & how you fixed them. Btw you can use citral instead of plaster of paris as it doesn’t chip off & can be stored for up to 6 months in a cool dark place sealed in a canning jar with a tight lid
This was interesting. I remember my Gram telling me the barns used to be "painted" red - farmers couldn't buy paint so they used....left over milk, cows blood and lime = "barn red" paint 👌
Oh Mary…. Love this dresser ! Love the wood tone and love the dark paint ! Gorgeous! Old wood has such amazing character , we don’t get that so much in the wood today. Trees are cut and milled before they reach maturity and the character is lost ! Maybe a line of “White Cottage Co” paint coming ? Well done and not surprised at its beautiful… Mary did that ! 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
Thank you for sharing the process of making your own paint! It’s always good to do things just to see if you can! That’s how I accomplish most of what I do…just to rise to the challenge! Cindi
I love how your dresser turned out! I now know how I want to paint mine!! You are so talented Mary! The inspiration you give sure comes back to you ten fold!! Thank you so much!!
You're the first person to make true milk paint. Others add latex which makes it NOT milk paint. I love how the dresser turned out. Classic and beautiful.
Mary your determination is commendable. I would of giving up long before. The paint looks really lovely. Loved how the two colors came together. Really everything turned out fantastic. Congratulation.
Adding plaster of Paris would probably set the paint faster. I thought at first your first batch had dried out so quickly because you added the plaster of Paris, but perhaps it was the lime? I love that you are always ready to try out an idea that comes into that creative mind you have and I love that you are not afraid to try your hand at anything! I will try your formula myself one day. You know, years ago dairy barns were painted red by farmers because they used what was at hand: buckets of milk and plenty of rust!
In the early 80's I worked for a company who did historic home renovations. Some of us girls made milk paint including boiled down blueberries. What a mess but what fun we had.
🤗 At first I didn’t think I liked the look but after looking at it awhile it grew on me! You always amaze me Mary with the things you attempt! Love the T-shirt too! Take care.
I must admit I was skeptical at the beginning but you proved me wrong, once again. Loved when your son came and hugged you … you’ve raised such sweet boys Mary.
I really like that old piece of furniture. The way you painted it was just perfect. Just beautiful.
Loved the hug from your Son, PRICELESS😊
My goodness Mary, I am consistently amazed by your instincts and ingenuity! Those drawer fronts and paint colour are so beautiful together!

Lovely Mary!
Particularly enjoyed being on your porch patio during the rain.
You have created a most inviting environment.
I really like the rustic look of this, the stain and paint enhanced the imperfections rather than covered them up.
Your view is Serenity … like paradise with the rainfall! You amaze me with your many talents. The dresser turned out GREAT!
I love how your piece turned out but more than that, I love how you followed up at the end to share your mistakes and experiences with us! Ohmygosh you should publish a cute little farmhouse cookbook with those recipes!!!
Please, publish. Even Etsy. Let us know.
I’ll have to do that thanks.
Yes publish 💕
Please publish.
Would love to have a copy
It turned out to be beautiful!! I love it! A wonderful second life for this old chest!👍😀
I loved the partially stripped look of the drawers that you stained over. It gave it the most interesting character. Would never have thought to do that. Love this. Everything you do is always beautiful. God has definitely given you the gift of beauty. Really enjoy watching your videos.

Would it work in the washer?
@@grandaygain it’s not like a bleach. It’s more like a dye. I don’t know what it would do to fabric if that’s what you’re asking.
@@cindydolezal9362 That is what I am asking. Thank you for replying.
Ggod luck with your experiments!
@@grandaygain I’ll give it try! Might be the millenarian solution to yellowed clothes. Great idea!
The dresser looks really good. Putting the wallpaper liner in really steps it up.
Mary, that dresser turned out beautiful! I love the old character you can see peeking through the paint (dings, nail holes, etc) and I love that you are now comfortable enough in front of the camera to be in your bare feet and wiggle your toes lol!
I love the way this came out. You were so right to go darker. It looks wonderful.
Recognized the Carolina wren singing while you were squeezing out the curd!
You never cease to amaze me, Mary! I learn so much from you every week. Such a blessing to my life.

👍on the chemestry. There’s more to it. Before painting you want to brush wood with vinegar and let it dry. It will help if the wood is acidic

Your talent never ceases to amaze me ,you are incredible.I never knew paint could be homemade! I love how the dresser came out!
Love the dresser. Looks perfectly vintage.
Love the dresser. But, the hug from one of the kids make my Mama heart flippy-flop! ❤
Love the rain sounds!

I wasn’t sure about this Mary, but it is stunning. I love all the imperfections make it even better.
This is so beautiful, Mary! You just never cease to amaze me!
You did so well Mary. I really enjoyed the video and I love the chest of drawers. No distressing needed as it was quite a weathered piece of timber.
Paint is so expensive right now, so it was great seeing a homemade paint that covers well. Thank you.
Thank You Mary. I have a chest of drawers like that one. I want to redo it for under our TV to house our DVDs. Thank You! ❤
I just love old dressers that are 'beefy' looking, suitable for a man. The paint and wood combo worked out great!. You amaze me with trying to make your own paint. God bless you and yours.

Well this is an interesting treat! I never knew it was even possible to make our own paint from scratch. I think I might give it a go!
Farmers did it all the time.
Thank you for this. I have a small pine chest that is about 70 y/o. I knew I wanted to do something special with it and I think now I have the color scheme.. Thank you Mary

I love the way the dresser turned out.
Maybe try a dark wax… this was fun to watch, I enjoy watching your creative mind And thanks for adding the bits of nature 🌧 🐦
I absolutely love how the dresser turned out, it is beautiful!
Mary, you are truly amazing! Making your own paint I've got to say that is something I would never try myself. Your project turned out great.
The piece turned out so pretty. You’ve given it new life. I can’t help but imagine if this piece could talk, what a story it would tell!
I love how the dresser turned out! At first I wondered why you’d want to make your own paint ( other than to try something new) and then when you mentioned chemicals I thought how it would be so nice to have paint without chemicals. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I’m loving this contrast! The colors are rich and beautiful! ♥️
OMG. That is Stunning!!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩
My favourite look for furniture is black/dark grey and dark wood! Or white and wood!
This is gorgeous! 😍😍
I liked it after the first coat... but after the second coat and the wax, wow! Love it!!

I did not know that’s where the red came from! Makes sense.
Wow!
So pretty. Funny to see you paint something dark instead of white! 😊
This dresser looks beautiful. You did an amazing job. Thanks for sharing the paint recipe, and the ups and downs of making the paint.

Well done Mary! Looks great and a truly authentic vintage look!
Sorry buy the way I enjoy watching you how to make homemade paint
Thank you so much I love watching your videos God bless you
I love your spirit of adventure in trying new things. Beautiful outcome.
Another beautiful piece! For those sticking drawers you can rub a bar of soap on the runners and bottom of drawers.

such a departure to see you painting in black!

One of the best pieces you’ve done.
You make my back hurt just watching you. Excellent work!

You are always inspiring Mary! Thank you for sharing your life💕
The dresser turned out awesome! Thanks for sharing this with us 😊
The dresser turned out beautifully. You should sell your own line of milk paint!
Its already on the shelves, It’s called chalk paint
I didn't know curds could be used for paint. Brilliant!
It is a beautiful piece Mary. You are an amazing woman. I love the stuff you do.
Já acompanho a 3 anos, e derrepente fiquei uns 2 meses sem receber que bom que reincrevi ,amo o trabalho e Mari é uma inspiração para mim

Bravo 👏🏼 you’ve done it again -transforming the old into something new and fantastic ☺️
Beautiful job on the chest of drawers. Well done.xx
This is a great transformation and a great science lesson.
The caterpillar crawling around on the drawer 😍
I wasn’t sure about the combination to begin with, but oh man, I love it!!! Well done.
Love the end result, Mary! Great choice of colour combination for this piece.❤️
Hi Mary! The dresser turned out really nice. Thank you for sharing!
Love how the dresser turned out!
